  1. He's on a bloody count down now Cant wait mate really looking forwards to next Thursday 2 x cameras ready Might bring my laptop so we can view are vids at lunch Don't let the SC side down now - thats a seriously quick Zed you got there.
  2. There is a lot to go wrong. 2.5 tons of vehicle and various electronic systems for air suspension and other technical gubbins means when something does go wrong its expensive. When it works its the best car in the world but most of the time you are just waiting for the next thing to go wrong. I was releatively lucky with mine - a couple of small issues like the EGR valves (recirculating exhaust gas for emmisions), twice the coupler on the steering wheel airbag thingy went (400 quid a pop) and a few air suspension dramas along with the usual wearing parts (it will eat through bushes).
  3. I liked my RRS - added a few bits on as well - but the running cost of the SC Zed paled in comparison to running an RRS - performance and massive weight don't really go well together - my diesel RRS handled better than a mates supercharged RRS (which still wasn't particularly quick) - def go diesel if you can and buy a track day toy.
  4. I had an Range Rover Sport for a couple of years and its a comfortable bus although it is very heavy and even the supercharged version feels ponderous to drive. Currently have a Murano (engine similar to Zed) and its a very comfortable SUV with much better road holding than the RRS and far lower running costs mostly due to its amazing reliability. If you're looking for something more left-field then the Pajero Evolution is worth looking at - make sure its a manual though - the Tiptronic takes the fun away. I'm currently selling a manual Paj Evo and it really is a blast and looks the business.
  5. Yep - R888's - excellent summer/trackday tyre if a little extreme for everyday use (& def not for winter use).
  6. If you are planning a 5.5K mile round trip then whats the harm in changing the oil and filter to begin with? I personally wouldn't use semi-synth oil in a Zed so best to make the switch now - your engine will thank you for it. BTW - you'll need slightly more than 4 litres for an oil change - somewhere between 4.5 - 4.75 litres to get it to read max on dipstick.

    Rota GTRs

The flat face front and concave rear is to give the Zed that "drift" look. If you prefer (as per the Zed in the OP's 1st post) you could run the concave look front and rear (may need to roll the arches though dependant upon offset and suspension setup). I think these rims look better in the flesh tbh - its all about the "stance" of the Zed rather than a 2 dimensional picture. Oh agreed! - I was just interested to know is all. I guess the GTRs have been around a few years now and are loosing their fresh look - Personally I prefer the TE37 copy - Rota Grid Drift.

    Rota GTRs

What do you feel is wrong with them? They are a copy of the LMGT's but with a better concave and offset and I bet quite a similar weight (speaking from experience as I've owned both) and lighter if you take into account the need for spacers on the LMGTs. Plus if you damage one its easy get another at a reasonable cost. Of course the LMGT is the dogs danglies of a rim for the Zed but IMHO Rotas are actually a good quality rim - far better than a lot of Halfrauds type stuff you frequently see on Zeds on the forums.
  9. Not sure if these are any use - some pics of my last two Zeds on Rotas; Rota GTR - Rota Grid Drift (Zeds now owned by Keyser)
  10. Maybe ctc this guy - doesn't look like it sold - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0558090249
  11. Nah - All this talk about drifting and handling a Zed without TCS and no-one has mentioned the need for the Zed to have a decent LSD over the frankly naff OE viscous type. Best mod on my (well now Keysers) Zed was the Kaaz diff - better on track than the SC IMHO - totally controllable sideways action (when it eventually let go) and far better putting down the power.
  12. They look like Sebrings - made by Rays. I have a set on my Murano - if so then 400GBP is a cracking price even taking into account the refurb.
  13. Sounds like you could get a (much improved) Quaife LSD for similar money. Is a rebuild out of the question? The 1 series is a popular car - there must be quite a few lying around breakers yards at this stage.
  14. You could buy a braided fuel hose but the OE hose is rubber so apparently Nissan don't see the relative proximity to a hot exhaust as an issue. I thought that putting two jubilee clips on would have done the trick but haven't a clue how the hose could split like that.
  15. Don't know what could be used in there place? What's wrong with jubilee clips? got loads under my bonnet Not saying there's anything wrong with them, just wondered if there's an alternative. Just looks like a bit of a "making do" solution where fuel is involved. Whats holding on your fuel line then out of interest? The fuel line runs to a straight pipe without any male/female connectors so I'd be interested to know an alternative if it exists? I changed that fuel line only a couple of months back after the old one corroded so I feel a bit guilty that it split at the bottom like that - fuel near a hot exhaust is not a good combo. Also that SC belt must have really loosened itself on its long drive eastwards - I wasn't able to twist it much past 45 degress before I left from home. great work though Chris - its great to see the Zed in such capable hands.
  16. I replaced the battery less than a year ago so its not the battery. I also did not experience a slow turnover. As the Zed was not my DD I always kept it in the garage on a trickle (maintenance) charger so the battery was always fully charged on startup. Perhaps try fully charging the battery especially now it hasn't been driven much recently what with it being off the road. On the belt slip - it can be annoying on cold startup but again as I kept the Zed in the garage the squeel only lasted a couple of seconds. Perhaps with the months on sitting in my garage and then the long drive the belt has loosened itself - maybe check the tension. As per Anders it would certainly be no harm to let Abbey have a look at the Zed if only to put your mind to rest if it was only to do a rolling road and let them have a cursory look over the Zed.
  17. Nice to see you enjoying the Zed Chris and good to see its still in the hands of an enthusiast - thats 4 straight Zed forum members from when this Zed was brand new now. Enjoy the trackday - that Zed really comes into its own on track - the Teins (don't forget the EDFC damper settings ), Nismo ARBs, PF discs and DS2500pads, JWT clutch & flywheel, R888's and Kaaz diff (turn off traction control) are particularly effective not to mind the SC's considerable extra power - however as per Anders keep an eye on the oil temps - my next mod was gonna be an oil cooler - bring her in on a cooldown lap once it hits 120 degrees. You'll never see high oil temps on the road but on track a thermostatic oil cooler would be important for any extended running.
  18. While its a common (Clarkson originating) misconception that the Zed has a Renault engine its most def a Jap VQ series engine which have been on the Wards list of best engines for something like 10 years running - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VQ_engine#VQ35DE On another note its not much of a slight as didn't Renault win several F1 world championships using their own engines? - I'd say they have a fair idea how to build a performance engine.
  19. Yep - Def get the Zed up to scratch first before adding power. Tyres, brakes (at least uprated discs and pads), suspension mods like ARBs and coilovers, uprated clutch and flywheel and a good mechanical LSD. No point having FI power without these mods. Zed will feel much sharper to drive and will allow you to put the power on the road/track.
  20. Yep - over 500 miles across Ireland (from 5am on deserted B roads), Wales (from Fishguard via a mountain route) and on to Bournemouth on the South coast of England (motorways primarily) at quite a brisk pace with a couple of plays along the way. Nobody messes with the Zed in Ireland so I was surprised to see anything from Fiestas to Porsches having a go. Quick stab of the throttle put off most of them though.
  21. Great to see the Zed stay on the forum (all owners since new have been Zed forum members)and I know its gonna be with a guy thats gonna look after it like it should. I'm really gonna miss it - especially at track days where it made me look good -
  22. That module will also suit a JDM Zed - as per BM not for UK spec.
  23. Does anyone have a handle on the replacement cost? I reckon it'd be saucy.
  24. I recently sold an Ipod connector for the Bose - charges your Ipod and you can choose tracks using your stereo buttons on steering wheel and unit - viewtopic.php?f=32&t=47737 Theres a how-to in the for sale thread.
  25. I have Tein Coilovers with EDFC so I can control the damper settings from inside the Zed. 16 different settings on both front and rear so ranging from trackday hard to every bit as comfy as an OE set-up but still with much better handling. Also have Nismo roll bars and uprated arms which help with flat cornering without unduly affecting ride comfort. Had Eibach springs on my last NA Zed and they seemed much better than the OE set-up - no loss of ride comfort - better stance/handling albeit not at the level of my present SC Zed.
