  1. Great vid, were you on standard brembos for the session? Oh, and nice to be able to see past the rear view mirror for a change! It's a youtube pet hate of mine.
  2. Smart Pics Stew, wish we were all there!
  3. Cheers fellas, i'm hoping for a nice long summer this year! Wouldn't mind hitting up scotland too as i'm going to miss wales Work schedule is going to be rather unpredictable though, so i might just have to bring a tent if i can get there. Going back to Holland on tuesday for another month, so hopefully a bit more offshore time this time I've a shopping list to buy don't you know!
  4. Oh Phil, you big tease!
  5. Allow me to shout louder! ORDERED MY ZED TODAY! From Edgars Nissan in Rowrah, west Cumbria. My folks used to get Rovers from them years ago and the service was well known for being good (family firm) so fingers crossed that just leaves Nissan GB to mess up! Anyway, i've been told end of june/early july, plus 4-6 weeks(!) for fitting of my nismo kit. Lets hope they can be hurried along a bit! Spec: Rosso Red 313ps Non-GT. Nismo Aero kit. Shopping List: LMGT4's, Induction Kit and Nismo Exhaust. Recon dealer will object from a warranty point of view? I will now attempt to forget about it now until nearer the time! or i may go a bit mad!
  6. Sorry to hijack a bit but: ORDERED MY ZED TODAY!!!!!!!! BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! *ahem* Anyway, i've been told end of june/early july, plus 4-6 weeks(!) for fitting of my nismo kit. Lets hope they can be hurried along a bit! Think this was worth its own topic?
  7. Stick with this site, unlike facebook it's not about to turn into a ghost town!
  8. Lol, i don't think so. I would say all the fish would be scared off by the noise!
  9. Well, first a big boat hammers a "monopile" (big tube) 40m into the seabead - remember the turbine itself is 90m to the hub, so there is half as much again below the sea! The the tube is pumped out, the yellow landing platfom is added and the base tube filled with concrete (weetabix? ). The main body is craned on top in one or two pieces, then the nacelle, hub and two blades are added as one part. (known as the "bunny ears" ) Like you can see set up in the dock photos. Attach to the grid via an 11KV cable and away you go!
  10. I have to assume that's a joke Jay! really thought they were electric fans, not to keep us cool but to produce waves for surfers I can tell you it's actually a plan to blow the uk further south to improve the weather!
  11. Its only 5m difference, those blades are about 40m long, making an 80m span.
  12. Pleased to see folks are enjoying the pictures, so i thought i'd add a few more from the dockside of a new offshore farm in holland. These ones are slightly smaller than the ones i was on in the previous pictures, only an 80m bladespan this time! Loaded jack-up vessel: standing on the dockside Fair big them blades! Dont put your head up there! Blade storage
  13. haha , i don't have any special qualifications or anything! just in the right place at the right time. As for the radiation, everyone will get a complimentary tan at any meet i got to!
  14. We do have wireless internet access though! we have to bring our own kettle/microwave/georgeformangrill Don't worry, I reckon your apprenticeship was better than mine, there's no substitute for time spent.
  15. Possibly the rarest combination going? Yeah! was hoping to get a new one though!
  16. 3MW each from 5kts to about 25kts wind. 90meter blade span - a 747 has a 64m wingspan!
  17. Yep, definatly a 350Z! Sorry! yeah, what the hell - red nismo'd non-gt. Boats under construction, don't remember whos doing it.
  18. I know what you mean, i check the site every day, but what i'm really looking for are new picture threads!
  19. Its mostly maintenance and installing modifications, if you have done an aprenticeship you'll be fine. Out of the 15 of us that started about two thirds are electricians in one form or another, and the rest are fitters. The company dosn't do seperate trades though - you're expected to do both electrical and mechanical work, as there is usually only 2 guys working on the turbine. Although we have one lad who did PLC's and elecronics who's never touched anything above 12Vdc! There are loads of offshore windfarms planned, especially on the east coast! http://www.bwea.com/ukwed/offshore.asp Google them - most sites have their own website. I just applied to an ad in the local paper! Sorry Martin, theres two boats on order for us already! Incidentally, i may yet get a placement at the Barrow site, i'll let you know.
  20. Happy now! http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12552
  21. This is hopefully the one that's going to get me that Zed! Previously i've mostly been an industrial electrician, minus a three year break at Uni to study aircraft enginnering. That didn't work out; cheers 9/11! I have been in training for a couple of months, getting all the basics out the way so i can go offshore to these: They are currently building a windfarm in the Solway Firth http://www.eon-uk.com/generation/robinrigg.aspx, and being a local lad, I jumped at the chance! There's not a lot going on round here, and not everyone wants to work a Sellafield! Saftey training complete, the company is sending me and my fellow trainees to various other sites to gain experience while our site is being built. My initial placement has been in Holland, unfortunatly for the past two weeks we have been weathered off! Yesterday however, the swell abated long enough for us to get out for the first time. Dropping off: All the gear was offloaded to the Turbine We are basically shadowing experienced crews on their regular work, learn by doing, as they say. The turbine nacelle is 90m above the platform, and its a long old climb, of course you are clipped on to a fall arrest rail, but a rest break was required halfway! To Work in the nacelle: Its rather tight in there with 4-5 blokes! At the back, there's a hatch in the floor to hoist stuff up. Its a proper black hole! I spent most of the moring crawling about in the hub, its a bit like being in the space ship - no windows, and everything looks the same no matter which way round you are! Access was rather tight: Working space little better! In the afternoon, the weather improved, and i could go and top up the coolant. Via the roof! It took a few minutes to get used to that, i can tell you! Standing on a flexing fiberglass roof, with a breeze and a slack line. The views were amazing though: Little bit of video: http://s245.photobucket.com/albums/gg70/AK350Z/Offshore/?action=view&current=MVI_2163.flv 5pm and it was time to go home: I think i might get used to this! Dispite having to sit around for two weeks beforehand Can't help the weather though i suppose.
  22. Very glam , fits in well with the roadster ethos. All you need to do now is swap Cumbria for Cannes!

  24. dude probably dont want to highlight that on an open forum Its ok, i can see the drive-thru movie theater from my bedroom window!
  25. I watched it the other night at home (!), its proper 80's gory cheese! pretty pointless, but then only Rambo and Rocky 1 are worth watching anyway. But then it's little more than a vanity project anyway, so i wasn't expecting too much.
