    Dash re-trim

Chris funny you should mention Airbags I forgot to add that to my comment - that is a worry? You should cut the material so it is not joined to the rest of the dash (unlike the airbag cover which has a seam welded thin join that rips whenthe explosion occurs) Troubel there is getting a really nice finish - the only way is to use a very thin material and do a neat 3mm fold all the way round - glueing it to itself - I suggest then putting it between 2 pieces of ply and clamping them with a G Clamp for a few hours? Tricky but not impossible? I ahev thought about options for mine actually and the Bentley interior is just top If I ever get time to do anything car related I will have a go - but I have an old friend that needs to come out of retirement first (my Beetle)

yes its impact adhesive - you let it set a while so when the 2 parts are joined they grip on impact ! Not nice and it gets everywhere! You cant wear gloves as they stick and also melt!! The Spray stuff is normally to glue foam together to make up a seat base shape for example but also to glue side panels on Oh the Bentley type interior at the top of this thread can be achieved very easily - you need to make carboard templates for the material and any fancy moulds you want? It really is not hard you just need a decent sewing machine or sew by hand like I did years ago!!! Use the proper thread though for car upholstery not domestic stuff - not strong enough. Oh and rememeber when sewing material its usually inside out - so think in reverse logic!! Time and prep is your friend!

    Dash re-trim

Looks like acool job there Chris This is a big subject - you really need to see a trimmer in action but .... spray glue if fine but you really need to use Evostick adhesive or similar in a can. Get a flat spreader - cut up some hardboard into 2 x 4inch and use that to spread it on the dash - try to get an even finish. I dont know what the dash is like underneath but be careful as some glues can melt the plastics underneath! Also make sure you have adequate ventilation that stuff is evil, also spread the glue on the underside of the material and let it set for 10 mins I think so its just lightly tacky - the tricky bit is where it pulls round the edges and holes etc - you need to cut the material in such a way that you can pull it round and finish off without overlap or creases? Also I would suggest you staple the very edges you pull round or at least clamp them for a few hours until the glue sets - remember a lot of heat is generated on the dash so careful work here will reward you with years of trouble free service. Make paper templates - its cheaper than cutting material!! The tricky bit is around the dial pods - as they are welded to the dash top - but you can do something with that! Dashboards with fiddly bits and door trim - your better off using a thin vinyl or fabric so you can keep the detail in the moulding underneath? Most Velour has a thin foam backing anyway. You can get wood veneer from craft shops and most other stuff from DIY shops? Leather is expensive and even today is generally £100 for a full hide. Fabrics on average £5 / metre or so - but that could be old prices subject to the current economy! 4. Funny a certain dealer told me that the cost involved in servicing a Zed is exatly the same as for a common or garden Micra - but the Marketing bods at Nissan Uk said that it would devalue the Zed's status as a flagship car etc and hence they have upped the price - strange how the dealers dont drop the price of the service then to £100!!
  5. Drum brake?? Oh sh** so does that mean I have to pull the hub off etc etc?? Star adjuster (like on my '71 Beetle and all malarchy!) Or I dont need to touch them at all as they are seperate to the discs? Weird set up?
  6. Thanks Mike - only concern is the handbrake - they adjusted it right up - so dare I say it - it actually works well !! I guess I need to slacken it off but dont know how - need to do a search later on. Anyway I feel a mini photo rich guide on the cards again!
  7. Wow - well I know I like my shed - but this is taking a it a bit far!
  8. La La la la la la la la la la - I am not listening and not looking at this la la la
  9. Handy you spotted this Mike - the other week on my 27K service the dealer told me my rears are 90% worn - mainly on the inner side (sound familiar ) but no squealing as yet? Got my replacement pads and intend to fit them hopefully this weekend another first for me on the Zed! Will let you know what mine look like?
  10. Need to patch up the drive at the front of the house and stick a rain gutter in, so just wondered if anyone has used that patching tarmac from Wickes or B&Q etc and if so is easy to do? Do you get a good result?
  11. Poor Lexx having a bad time at the mo eh? Got some white spirit on a rag yet mate?
  12. Well I still think its high for a new car? Sure it works but imaging a long queues in a traffic jam - your legs muslces will end up like ballons! On my Pathfinder they had fitted the brake pedal alignment wrong in the factory it was too far backward and I was'nt getting the full pedal travel? Took the dealer 3 attempts before they realised! Muppets R US! I expect something similar may have happened - we know Nissan's record for build quality almost rivals Rover! Go to another dealer and see what they say - wont cost you anything?
  13. Got my 07 done the other week 27K - its just a boggo - oil , filter and tyre kicking exercise.. I wont put on how much it cost me but it was'nt cheap!! rear brake pads need to be changed - but I am doing that myself soon. Otherwise nothing else - you will probably need new tyres by 27K ?
  14. How very dare you sir! Go and wash your mouth out! Its Zedski or the Highway
  15. Hi mate did you get this sorted out at the dealers in the end? It was very VERY high when I tried it at Wales meet - thats unacceptable for an '08 car - its a warranty job so you should'nt have any issues with that side - they should get it sorted for you - if they are funny about it - go and jump in one of their democars and see how that feels - or better still get them to compare it! Otherwise try a different dealer Good luck
  16. Very nice - good colour on a Zed
  17. Hi I understand your worries - but we are all in the same boat - I heard about the 370Z before I was buying mine and yes 350Z can be costly to run (but my personal situation is high miles to work ) but even so its the best thing I ever did. If we worried about the superceding models appearing on the horizon we would never buy any cars -its just the way it is - just enjoy yourself - buy the best you can afford have fun with this loony club, (Zed's much more fun with this lot ) I dont intend to get rid of mine (if I can help it) and I dont want to think about how much its depreciated since March but as others have said its a long term friendship with a Zed! Good luck with your search and we are here to help
  18. Hi - get used to it for a couple of weeks before you start adding or taking bits off - just feel for what its like to live with first Oh dont forget some nice pics for us please?
  19. Yes Mark never put the decent stuff in since I got it - just run it on the boggo stuff and not had any issues (touch wood) will treat it to some one day when money situation better, but usually end up at ASDA as its next to work and home coincidentally. I know Drew only runs it on VPOWER stuff and keeps reminding me about Nissan Warranty clause in the handbook - handbook? Oh yes got one of those somewhere! Only time I have ever noticed any difference was when I put some Vpower in my MR2 roadster a few years ago by mistake one night - damn thing shot off like the proverbial bat out of hell on the slip road! RX8 did'nt notice any difference though? Mate only runs his Lexus IS200 on Vpower but it drinks more than the Zed!
  20. oh no - useless polonkers!! If its standard gloss type paint (Dulux ICI)- you can tell by the smell of it - (like household woodwording gloss) you can get it off with white spirit on a rag (be gentle) if not -i.e enamal - then wait for a pro to do it otherwise you have no choice, probably already etched itself into your paint! If its tiny splatters you should be able to gently polish it out with Mer or Farcela G3. hope its not too much of a job to fix ?
