Marzman's Mercedes G-Wagen build UPDATE Wheels fitted pg 6
marzman replied to marzman's topic in Other Cars
Cheers guys. So far all i've done is research and lots of reading, and the only thing i've bought is a steam cleaner! So the current plan is: Steam clean the engine bay. There are 3 apparent oil leaks. 2 look easy to get at but the 3rd is an engine out job. I'll need to look if i can pull the engine through the front though as i will need a big ass lift to hoist it up and out! Fix the fuel tank problems. The rubber fuel filler neck pipe and one of the breather pipes has perished, so i need to replace them. Sadly that single rubber pipe from MB is about £150, so i'll be looking for an alternative solution. It also looks like the fuel tank has had a dodgy fiberglass repair on top of it at some point which is now coming apart, so i will need to either repair this, or replace the tank. Again, a new fuel tank on one of these is £1200, so i will probably come up with a custom solution instead. Mine's the 2.8 (although i know i said 2.4 on my first post, my mistake!). It is a lot slower than i was expecting, but i think its part of the experience! On the motorway it was fine at 70mph. I would have though an engine swap would be really easy, but from the reading i've done there have been very few. People are saying that because it's such an old car with no electronics etc, fitting any kind of modern engine in it is very difficult. I find this hard to believe though as surely you would just rip everything out and replace with modern kit? Anyway, we'll see. -
MP1 pioneered bullet time. It was amazing. Strangely though, i never played MP2.

Dude, it was p*ss awful. Dreadful controls, dull story, poor acting etc. MP1 was the pinnacle of that series. MP3 on Xbox 360 was amazing. One of the highlights of the last few years for me gaming wise. The controls were excellent - hence why they adopted that exact system for GTA V. And quite the opposite to you - this is one of the few games that i have completed that i havent traded in, so i can replay it again at some point.

Ha, Jetpilot who posted above is one of the people it happened too. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/88024-jdm-speedo-gone-mental/page__hl__speedo

There have been a couple of people who have had this problem in the last year.... cant remember who, will see if i can find the threads.

... here's the actual footage of the crash. :-(

I would give the E46 a wide berth. I've had a couple of these and both were very unreliable. Conversely, i cant speak highly enough of my E90 3-Series 320d. Absolutely lovely car and like night and day in comparison to the E46. I picked mine up for £4800 with 106k on the clock, but i've seen them cheaper.

Cheers folks... It's not about waking up at 6.30am on your birthday to watch the Grand Prix with a hangover.

Google DVLA dating letter, there are a few sites which appear to offer this service. It's not something i've ever heard of to be honest.

To be fair i'm surprised none of them have martyred themselves by trying to contract ebola and travel to the western worlds capital cities.

 Brilliant, that's me! What a long day... set off at 7.30am with my brother, got down there for 12pm, was back on the road at 1pm and have just got home 30mins ago, at 7.15pm. I'll save my writeup for later tonight/tomorrow as i've got a migraine at the moment (maybe from the smell of the car on the way home ), but all i can say right now is that it drives really well, but it is frickin enormous!! I didnt realise they were as big as they are - i reckon it rivals my RRS in size. ...i'm feeling i may have bitten off more than i can chew. Leon - Joelle mentioned you stopped by. Sorry i wasnt home yet. I should be about all weekend though if you want to pop round again (best before 3pm on Sat though as i've got my family round for my birthday in the evening). I could definitely use your advise on a project plan...!! -

 Love it. i sent my bro txt to tell him about it today, and i said 'You can do the welding, the engine work, fix the rust, paint it, and do the suspension. I'll give it a good detail.' I'm aiming to be more of a Richard Rawlings from Gas Monkey Garage instead of Mike Brewer. -

Looks like it, yes. I'll see if i can find the full episode. -
Hi all, So today i won an ebay auction for one of my dream cars - a Mercedes G-Wagen (or Wagon, i dont know which is right yet!) I've been after one of these for years, and I've always said that I would get one as my first restoration project. Usually the rotters go for between £5-7k, but i've managed to pick this one up for £3700, with 8 months MOT and 4 months Tax! It looks reasonably straight... it's a 2.4 Litre Petrol, giving 156BHP, and has 71k on the clock. There is some rust as you can see from the pictures, and the interior needs a retrim/refresh, but as restorations go i think this should be reasonably straight forward hopefully! My plan is to spend £3-4k on the restoration, after which i'm hoping to keep it for a while before selling. A properly restored model will sell for anywhere between £10-20k depending on the quality of the job, so I'm hoping at the very least to make a couple of grand on it by the time i'm done. I've not seen it in person yet as it's 180 miles away down in Bristol, but i'm expecting a rust bucket anyway so as long as it starts and drives, im having it. The seller reckons it'll get me home without any problems so it should be alright! So, my brother's called in sick from work to give me a lift down to get it tomorrow, and then i;m driving it back and then we'll be having a few beers! Pics are below. Early plans are to fix the rust and any mechanical issues, to make sure i've got a solid base. Following this it'll be having a full respray in gun metal grey, with new wheels, custom exhaust, and i'll consider changing the ride height, and an interior retrim obviously. I'm also going to see how well this engine runs, as at the back of my mind i'd like to drop in a big power mercedes lump out of an S Class or something (55). Overall i'm looking to have a finished article that looks like this:

i knew about the Jag but if thats true about the AMG thats unreal.

Apologies if this is a repost, i had a look but couldnt see anything. Not entirely sure what the crack was, but as i'm fairly local my facebook has been full of pictures and videos from it today. A few clever folk managed to stuff their nice cars on a public road in front of hundreds of people, which is all on film. Cool, post some pics. Maxima's always remind me of the Dre track 'Ackrite', '...chase them girls in that black Maxima The passenger, almost fractured her, neckbone, lookin' back at us.'
-
Weight on them is the same, but the IS is uderpowered compared to the BMW. To be honest i've had 4 e36 3-Series in the past, and 7 3-series overall, and i fancy something different.

Smooth + wiper delete. Looks badass as it is now.
