  1. Drove a crossfire (well, two actually - manual and auto) when we started looking for a 2 door sports car. Very nice, helpful salesman. Did 4 extended testdrives - one each for my wife and I in each car. Pretty cheap 2nd hand now. I expected to hate it, but it was quite good in isolation... cheap looking silver bits though. And then we drove a Z. Just no comparison - the crossfire doesn't even come close for driving experience, quality feel etc.

    SAT NAV

£1600 if bought when new. Absolute rubbish system too - my 300 quid NavMan is far better. For £1900, I'll rip my Nissan syatem out and install it for you!
  3. should go nicely with those chrome grills
  4. That's a particularly nice picture of a cardboard box.
  5. No edit button 4 me either...
  6. Ta D. Btw, you seem to have developed a stutter!
  7. I'll have a couple of cats. Can't afford the NISMO exhaust at the moment Can I just confirm that the kinetix are a straight replacement for the stock cats?
  8. Easy tiger Precisely! Can't you hold a reasonable and civil discussion without frothing at the mouth? I did read your first post, and I know your brother was running lower boost. What does this have to do with the comments I made? How are they inaccurate? Why have they upset you so much? If you just want to blag, maybe you should save it for your mates in the pub. If you post in a public forum, expect some discussion - it's the whole point of the forum after all. In terms of knowing what I'm on about, I have a 350Z and a twin turbo VR4 which shares much of it's running gear with an EVO VI. I'm a member of the Lancer Register (EVO forum). The mild modding/tuning to the VR4 has all been done by me & myself, so I suspect I've got an inkling of knowledge -it's not just something I've read. It's not comprehensive, and I don't know it all - which is why I like to discuss things on these public forums!. So that's all I'll be saying in this thread -I'm not interested in a slanging match. Mods, appologies if I've upset anyone (let me know if I have) - I don't think I've said anything outrageous or provocative...
  9. Odd that Mitsi aren't still rallying the 4's then eh I take your point about mods and weight although it's only around 50kg, and the later 6 speed gearbox has closer ratios. If you have a look at the MLR mods table sorted by BHP, you'll need to get somewhere around page four before a 4 makes an appearance (these are dyno confirmed results, not just 'I run x so must have x bhp). Now, while a smaller turbo spins up faster and thus reduces lag, it doesn't follow that the car will be faster at full boost - it only means that the boost comes on sooner, so you have less chance of messing things up and being caught off boost. In fact, smaller turbos typically will run out of puff as revs increase - they just can't pump enough air into the cylinders. The bigger turbo in the FQ400 will spin up later but will provide more air at those revs, and keep providing it at higher revs. I think the FQ400's 0-60 time is around 3.5secs - I suspect you can count the number of Z's that'll do that on one hand. There are probably EVO IV's that can do that, but they're going to be pretty heavily modded.
  10. Older model I mean - there've been five generations of EVO since the IV you were playing with. They've come a long way since then
  11. That's the worrying thing... it's simple maths to them isn't it - cost of repairing vs cost of a replacement. Fact that cost of replacement was less than repair may mean that there's more damage than meets the eye, or that it would be dangerous to repair. Don't know much about insurance write-offs, so don't quote me!
  12. Nice one. The Z is quick - the more I drive it, the more I enjoy it. In the dry, it should be able to keep up with the older EVO's on a smooth road. Thing about the jap 4wd cars is they're so easy to drive fast - even an average driver can hustle along because the car does so much for you. The EVO's have an increasingly sophisticated active yaw control which basically shifts power from left to right rear wheels to tighten the cornering line - so just bang it into a corner, turn the wheel and plant your foot... hold your nerve and after a moment that feels like you're in for the biggest episode of oversteer ever, you're hurtling in the right direction. The Z is much more difficult to drive fast, but more satisfying (I think). Different story across uneven and unknown country roads though, and in the wet we'd have no chance of keeping up. Don't know if you saw the Top Gear with Clarkson in an FQ400 vs a racing driver in a Lambo Murcithisishardtospello? Lambo couldn't get away on the track, and ended up spinning!
  13. Amsoil all the way for me. While you;re at it get an amsoil oil filter too. You should be able to get the stealer to knock off the price of the oil they'd normally use, but as the use sh1t, don't expect much!
  14. They were handing these out at Donnington yesterday. Apparently 150000 tickets to be given away Don;t fancy being in that kind of mob!

    Chrome Grille Kit

Do these come with a burberry cap included?
  16. I imported my legnum from japland myself. If you're trying to save money buying an import, you might as well do the whole thing yourself, rather than pay a middle man for doing very little. As the Ming says, it's long winded - I also took about 6 months to get the car I wanted, but good fun. Car was certainly a lot better than the tat I'd seen on importer/dealer forecourts here in the uk.
  17. I know it's short notice, but if any of you are in the vicinity of Donnington, they're running one of their trakzone days tomorrow. We'll be going in the Z - probably just to watch (too poor to track it again so soon after the last event). A whole bunch of the Club VR4 guys & gals will be ther, including one of our members with a 450BHP skyline that goes sideways a lot! Full GP circuit, each hour divided into 3 x 20min sessions (beginner/intermediate/advanced), sessions run all day with an hour lunch break. 135 quid for the day as long as you prebook. http://www.donington-park.co.uk/trakzone/

    crashed!

You leave my feet out of this (Sarnie the 2nd!)
  19. Have a look at this vid: http://paultan.org/archives/2006/04/12/ ... gine-test/ Watch it to the end, and you'll see just how twisted an F1 manifold is. They seem to manage a moderate power output , so I think there's a bit more to it than big pipes in straight lines .

    crashed!

They're a bit dodgy in the wet, aren't they. Wife was muttering about the back end being a bit loose yesterday... starting to talk like a petrol head after that track day !
  21. Ooops - it's for sale doen at the Cov Arena! Might just try a snifter!
  22. The Dyno Dynamics dyno's can definitely store runs - up to a thousand per ID (usually the car reg) if I remember correctly. I'm not sure about producing an average though- I can't see that it would - what use would it be in tuning terms- so you may have a point. Perhaps they've just selected a couple of representative curves? When I was at WRC with my car on their Dyno Dynamics, I got into a discussion with them about fuels, and they had the opposite to say about Tesco - said that they could see the ECU's of cars running it pulling the timing. Liked optimax but said it was unstable and aged quickly, whereas BP ultimate lasted longer. Difficult to know what the truth really is eh. Can't get Tesco 99 around here so doesn't matter to me at the moment!
  23. Think I may just stick with high flow cats, and get something like a Milltek exhaust locally... Can you do me a favour and drop me a pm if things go ahead - I get les and less time to read the forums lately, and I don't want to miss out.
  24. Good grief mon - every little helps! Big scientific-type fuel shootout and tesco 99 beats bp ultimate and shell optimax (and v-power doesn;t seem to be any better than optimax) http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default ... ryId=14919
