  1. running the asymetrics (prefer to directional) on the ro and have excellent traction wet/dry and ride quality. On the Zed I had the Michellin sports and they were excellent, I'd say the P Zero's are equally as good though the latter experience is on a completely different car but one with an ickle bit more requirement for traction.

If you're going for them you wont be disappointed. Even chinchengs are an upgrade to the Bridgestones

  2. Ian did you try A-plan with the number I gave you?

Its different from the local brokers number as that one above specialises in sports and even modified cars.

Another good tip is can you honestly say you have access to a 2nd car or can you add someone like g/f or mother to policy?

few years back I was single (hard to believe I know) and added my mum onto my Elephant policy and saved £250, ever since I always add the missus at renewal time and it always saves $$$

  3. :D I think it would take some running to effect the weight :p

The weird thing is, and i know this is for certain, at the traffic light grand prix I can get away much faster - the start at the 1/4 can be rather slippy...

its a bastard treck from here but if its nice enough weather i might like to venture along too though I want to install the quick shifter before the next trip to the strip

  4. a quick thing to bear in mind is do not feel ashamed at being beaten by 305s etc at the 1/4 mile (it is different at the traffic light grand prix though)

As the ro weighs similar you will find it hard to get away particularly fast - my advice is if you are going to do it try it with and without t/c on.

A better place than the pod is shakespears raceway as you will get litterally tens of runs for your 20 quid sign on. If you do not warm your tyres up significantly you will spin - traction is great on the 1/4 but the first 60ft can be (suprisingly) easy to spin up with all the rubber there is there.

Best I could manage was a mid 15 despite having very low times for the first 600 - the issue was hooking up the gears which aint that easy in the ro.

If you want to go fast down the 1/4 you need to shed weight - much lower performing cars were making me look slow.

  5. did you try greenlight insurance (VERY cheap and mod friendy) or A-plan (not their normal brokers but these 01635 874646) again very cheap.

I found Adrian Flux (aged 30 with 9 years NCB) to be as competitive as a lead balloon in an egg and spoon race

  6. I dont doubt it fella but thats the advantage of shorter gearing and much forced air into the engine :D

I took my car when standard to the 1/4 mile and was mullered but much smaller cars like a stripped out 305 - embarrassing really but the ro struggled for traction and the long gearing didnt help. The best mod for me to improve things would be to alter the rear dif - a simple no engine mod will take of 1.5 seconds seeing me at or under 13, with engine mods 12s are the norm.

The two cars are so different, as I said I really miss the handling of the 350z as it is so crisp but then I actually prefer the ro perversely as it handles very nice but is a bit more wayward.

Good to see the car is still running - your input could be required on this thread -> http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/to ... 1&f=69&h=0 I know you're not having issues but you will no more about the problems giles and others have had with APS

  7. Well, to be honest, since I got the car back the only thing that has had a go was a DB9 and a 911. Before, when the car was approx 400bhp, it walloped a 355, 911 no probs at all.

Tell you what, I think Aston are inflating their power figures, I wasnt running full boost, and the Aston was dog slow in comparison.

What boost were you running and could you translate that into BHP

About 11psi at the time. Must be in the region of 450bhp, with torque probably about 450 lb/ft.

Another thing that makes me think about the Aston figures is this. My friend who has a 200sx running 300bhp had a proper go against one. He said that the Aston was just managing to pull on him, albeit very slowly. To put it in comparison, he said that the Aston was that little bit quicker than his car, in the same way that my old Vortech Zed used to be quicker than his.

With my car running 11psi, the Aston was totally, and I mean totally murdered. :scare::boxing:

I would have gone upto full boost, but was struggling for traction badly as it was.

Sorry to go off topic slightly, so when you had your Vortech, (running at 400 bhp?) it only just managed to pull away from a 200sx running 300 bhp?

So a riced up 200 kept up with an aston (just)? If they were propperly playing and it was a straight run (as bends negate power advantages full stop) the 200 may well have kept with the aston but at a given speed the aston would have just started to pull away quicker and quicker and quicker.

My car is fast, ferkin fast, it has dollops of grunt but off the lights lesser cars will keep up due to gearing and weight - the difference being mine will pull strong all the way up to over 160 without effort.

Also the gearing too, I can guarantee that Aston has much much longer gearing than the 200. I can drop to a 3.9 diff and get 1.5 seconds off my 1/4 mile with the exact same engine. Ponies dont always tell the tale.

  8. I found with the Zed people always seemed to think boy racer, give it a go etc

It got a bit much, I still miss the car it is such a drivers machine and very good out of the box.

The monaro is totally different, for one it is actually built solid with no rattles but aside from that it is understated and doesnt get any real attention until the throttle is opened up.

Its much more relaxing to drive and own but I'd say more fun in someways less so in others.

I think the image of the Zed is always going to be a bit poncy/racerish (not in a bad way) because thats the image any nice car gets thanks to the majority of the publics jealousy.

  9. after all the issues I had with Nissan stealers not accepting warranty claims, ignoring faults we know are warranty claims in other countys - why give them 450 quid for basically **** all?

Join the AA, take out their warranty cover = 100 per year for life of car, its much better than the manufacturer warranty

  10. I believe 32k in cash will get you a monaro vxr 500 from Greens (may be a few bob more) - 32k for a factory supported 500bhp bastard - 4 seats and a v8 growl. It even comes with its own chest wig and a years supply of brut

What about the bryl cream hagar?

    Off topic:

seriously not funny! For the following reason, I am at my sisters today for her birthday - no hair wax of any sort so go to local corner shop and all they have is bryl cream. I now stink like a OAP thats pi**ed their pants

  12. hmm any points bans or convictions in the last 5 years?

    lets see

imagine I tell them 6 points from 4 years ago

or no points but a ban/conviction from 6 months ago

I know where I'd take my chances

Liam I've had that argument with traffic freinds and they say so long as they can prove it was posted within the time limit then it is good enough

  13. When this happened to me I got a letter.....

Normally if you've seen them the gun has seen you and if it's over the limit for anytime at all I think they add it to the list. Only one I've not been able to get off too.

    www.speedtrapbible.co.uk - know your rights!! ;)

    Link doesn't work

I have heard that you can say that a family member from another country borrowed your car and they have now gone back home!

I also heard that if the letter is not sent registered post then you can claim to have never received the letter and therefore they have not informed you of intention to prosecute within the 14 days that they need to?

Anyone else know of anyways to get away with it?

Like the idea of a foreign relative - how would you prove insurance??

Also like the idea of the registered post, did it work Sarnie??

I've not tried either yet but I do know that when my mate got done his letter came normal post. How can it be proved when it arrived if its not sent registered post?

not reading all the thread, sorry but seen too many....

the great british law helps in that the police only have to prove sending the notice no proof is required for delivery. Big con I know
