zed is built for track not strip, would be embarrassed by a stripped out 105. Also the strip is fun if you are along side mates giving it johnny big cahonies, but other than that after a few runs its kind of pah.
Kev, fancy shakespears as its a better day over all than the pod in terms of strip time... and its cheap which is really why I like it

you so cute

90% sure I will be at this event but am now awaiting my RR time slot. Have requested an early one so I should be able to make it for 12:30/13:00.

see, thats why I dont want to be an admin on any site. Its too much like being a secretary :x

yes, also you have a subforum that stands seperate from the site but only one page is used.
Look at the hsv forum for example on there then look at the hsv owners club website, its the same page, just a single page forum so not as established as say here.
However PH is great

btw, 280hp on paper for the Z means 260 real engine hp (nearly all N/A engines are overrated on paper, except for Porsche and i guess some other "high-end" brands). My 300hp Z gave 275 real hp (and thats not wheel hp, but crank hp) when put on a dyno.
to accurately meausre crank hp you'd need an engine dyno, not a common dyno that you've used. Crank hp is always calculated and is just connected to too many variables/settings on normal dynos to be reliable. Hence all that should be quoted is whp, and again hope that the dyno settings are correct in the first place.
its calculated by measuring transmission losses on the dyno, its not as if they just apply some magical formula to it. If other cars using that same dyno get to their given hp (e.g. the TDI engines from the VW group) and others dont (e.g. the Z, or the RX-8 which apparently is a complete disaster on that level, or the S2000) there are some conclusions to be drawn
But i agree, the most accurate method is by using an engine dyno.
it takes into account the losses on the dyno but it isnt really 100% accurate when it comes to calculating the crank figure as things such as tyre pressure, transmission losses, oil used in diff etc can all take effect. Also by simply moving the IT probe you can get wildly varying results.
It is a good measure of a mod, rr it before the mod then take back to same rr after the mod to see the change.
Saying that, RR days are good as it gives a genuine comparison on the same day same RR set up against other cars even if the figures are not as expected it gives a good finger print

There is an RR Day on the 13th of Jan at Surrey Rolling Road, Chobham. It is £40 per car according to the thread here http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/to ... 2&f=23&h=0
Anyone fancy it? I'm booked down and looking forward to it, be good to see at least one zed there.

ah should have read further down the page.
BTW anyone going to apply to the Pistonheads RR day? Its on the 13th of Jan, contact via this thread http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/to ... 2&f=23&h=0

My 300hp Z gave 275 real hp (and thats not wheel hp, but crank hp) when put on a dyno. The other Z's they tested (2003-2005) gave around 260 hp. I had my car to 260 km/h on the speedo once (and not very long ). That should be the equivalent of 162mph on your speedo, and i guess i was like 1-2km/h short of hitting the limiter. Dunno with a 2003-2005 model, but with my 2006 car i can get to 156mph in 5th gear just at the beginning of the redline (7k rpm)
not read any replies since this but was your engine on a rolling road or did you take the engine out and use it on a proper dynometer? IF not then any crank figure is pure guess work.
Read this thread for a full saga of what the customer expects and what he gets, then the retest with proper IT/AT settings. Crank figure is pure fabrication based on assumptions.

yeah the colour of those smilies

i work for airbus................
how strange, I used to down at Filton. Are you Airbus or a subcontractor?
-
I used to really like the exclusivity of my 350z until i came into the work car park this morning....
There is:
a 06 Blade.
a 04 blade
a 04 blade roadster
a 54 gun metal
and a 04 black
you want a monaro then, only about 1000 on the road if that - aaah the waft of exclusivity
-
Spotted on the way home tonight and was hoping you were turning to Chippenham so we could play but alas you took the Cirencester turn off

oi I am in now way a lover of the exhaust!
-
Sarnie had his replaced to the drivers seat
-
me, Sarnie - cant explain why but he sure looks cute in an elf uniform
that s117 kid, simply because I want to see a Zed turned from design utopia into some form of max power chav waggon
there is a bundle more on here but my bath is about to be run. Oh I'd love to see Val meet up with the darkside forum... its been so tempting to bounce some of the old unlocked threads....
-
at least it doesnt look like a rover sd1 any more
-
I have to say sarnie you are one scary looking mofo
and not in a fearful way, more in a MY GOD THEY LET THAT BREATHE kind of way
-
try playing fear then, I am running a 4400x2 with SLI 7800GTX and 2gig ram and that game bitches the machine a bit
You must have a set up problem then because i have no issues with fear at all.
oh i have no problems and get a lovely fat FPS with most settings on but turn everything up and it will kill non-dx10 cards flat. Well I mean drop down to 40fps which is not acceptable
go give it a try, whack all on full and tell me a single card copes...
admittedly I aint played it in 8 months so new drivers may be out to help with dual-core etc

not a pro myself and surprisingly i am faster on dry roads than the strip as they tend to be a little easy to spin up on the rubber etc, I found it wasnt any better if i burn out and found it easier to get power down with tc on, but its all with skill.
The huge throw with the standard gears on mine is a joke, same car back to back with same driver has seen a 2 second improvment with a 350 quid ripshifter.
The ro, cossie and zed are quite heavy cars. Friend has a highly tuned skyline with NOS he was getting mid 12s, to put into context a stripped out 305 was running close to that!
Good day out though as its actually a good spectator event too. 25 quid for a full day or it was 15 (iirc) for half a day. Its near to Stratford so a lot easier to get to from the north than the pod.
We should organise an event when the weather is better but I think they reopen end of jan...
