  1. 6 point minimum IMO - 4 point is either a rear cage or a roll bar - the (ever ongoing / on hold Mini project for my daughter) we put a 6 point FIA approved cage with the added diagonals and door bars. But it depends what you want it for - to make the car stiffer for handling and to give a mount for harnesses a 4 point will do that - to keep you shaken but not stirred in a major off then go 6 at least EDIT: PS Watching with intrest - great project Usage will be mostly road, spirited driving, some track use (but not really flatout type of driving), etc. I dont want the cage interfering with the front of the car for getting in/out and just because I will see it. I also think a front cage will detract in the event of a future sale. Harness, rigidity and some additional impact/rollover protection is good enough (I hope!).
  2. cheers guys! Will be trying to do weekly updates when the work all starts.... Im also looking forward to this!!!
  3. Thanks Also looking for an MX5 (track/drift ready, but must be road-legal) with cash my way
  4. 240z goes into bodyshop this week and the whole project will begin What is everyones thoughts on rollcages in these cars? Im considering a 4 point cage for impact resistance, harness bar and some added rigidity.
  5. plan too!! Silverstone GP trackday next weekend missus is set to drive if weather is good
  6. I did a full day 1 on 1 with an instructor.... loved it!! Very friendly, lots of seat time, no care about how you drive the car... 200sx, skyline, etc.
  7. Much appreciated. Just remember to PM me if you ever decide to sell yours as it sounds well looked after. Hahaa.... doubt that will happen anytime soon, love the thing!!! Though I am quite taken by the classics, 240z, escort MK1
  8. No worries, PM me if you any questions etc and I will let you know what I can.
  9. With L2D I was doing 2nd gear entries and max RPM and went through loads of tyres!!!
  10. I quite fancy one for my next car too but was under the impression that 2011 onwards had the advantage of an improved transmission and yearly instead of six monthly services. Not sure though.... The improvements on the 2011 car are pretty good, I have the suspension from 2012 car and the 2011 had a much better trans cooler, among other things. The servicing difference means nothing..... it was Nissan having released a new car and wanting to collect data on how things were going on the car. Some owners have moved to a 12 month service schedule and some of the 2011+ owners have moved down to a 6 month schedule. Personally, I prefer servicing the car every 6 months, purely because it has a hard life and nice to keep an eye on things, especially considering the price of parts Already doing some reading up & research on the GTR for future reference. Keep reading a lot about circlips, gearbox software upgrades & bell housing being done. Can you shed any light on those things Graham? especially the bell housing part? Thanks either way. Bellhousing is a problem, I have had mine replaced, I opted (and paid for) the Litchfield fix rather than the Nissan warranty which was not a proper fix. Circlips I dont see as a problem.... I have not had mine done Gearbox software is fantastic stuff, makes the car a lot more driveable, well worth the upgrade Completely agree... just received a letter from Nissan advising the finance package on a new car £78k, too much IMHO.
  11. I have used Learn2Drift and it was great fun

  13. Well had the car up on a ramp with a bodywork specialist who went over it and there is a bit of a list of things to be done, but not as bad as expected Roof - remove sunroof Bumpers - remove current bumpers Front fenders - need some repairs Sills - both sides need a fair bit of work Doors - both sides need a fair bit of work - going to repair the standard ones, want to try and keep them Drivers floorpan - needs a section removed and replaced Looking to get the car in sometime in December and will be stripped, blasted, repaired, resprayed (some bright blue colour), new bumpers, fender mirrors, arch extenders, wheels and rear half cage (welded in). Still deciding on the seats and clocks, but thinking along the lines of classic racing seats, modern clocks in standard dash, retro radio with hidden speakers, refurbed gearknob and steering wheel and not sure what else........ Engine wise, it will remain standard for now, but I am seriously considering some triple webbers
  14. Good news.... as the blue escort will be moving to a new owner shortly, it looks like this may actually be getting restored this winter Hoping that I can get the car in and start getting it stripped at some point in December! I have taken Friday next week off and will be getting the gasket and fluid service done. Then it will be getting a tune-up
  15. Time for an update.... not a great deal has happened with these, but things are all starting to come together Since buying the 240z, 3 old projects was just too much, so the blue one will be moving on to a new owner shortly. The white one is going to someone who knows escorts on the 6th of December and will be getting stripped and the shell will go off to be bare-metaled and then resprayed. So will soon have a few photo updates
  16. Thats such a shame... but when I last looked the weights varied wildly depending on model and options.
  17. No sand in there now When I weighed it last time on the farm it was still about 1200kg with a full tank and weighted slightly more towards the front end by 40kg so that'll go up when my fat arse gets in too. Good that you got it sorted without the sand bags! A shame to waste all that hard work of your wife/gf did removing the sound deadening, for you to add a bag of sand Decent weightloss as well!
  18. Bedford is generally a third and fourth gear circuit . Makes sense then, I am pretty sure I was in 5th (or changing up to 5th) where the noise monitors were on Silverstone
  19. Is that with or without the extra weight (sandbags)? Roughly what does your car weigh?
  20. As above, but one of the masters talking about his cars setup:-
  21. bloody hell..... 88.4 on the drive by I hit 106.6 in the GTR on the drive by at Silverstone.... They even showed me a nice little print out and kindly asked that I short shift at certain points of the track. By the afternoon, they didnt care anymore. I suppose at lost depends on what gear, speed, etc.... kind of puts me off Bedford in the GTR and I dont have a loud exhaust system compared to many others!
  22. Looks like what Romans in Sutton have....
