This'll be my 8th winter with the Zed so I've had quite a bit of experience with this. Personally, I don't worry about the windows, the main battle is actually to get the doors open. They usually freeze in the area around the door handle/door lock so its O.K to use hot water in that area, as for the windows, they may or may not freeze, I don't really know as I don't want the windows down when its freezing outside .Be aware that in a prolonged freeze your headlight washer covers could pop out (both mine and my wife's did anyway). I don't know what other Zed owners do about this but I feel its best to fix this using warm water just in case the washer cover flies off when you're driving along. Pete Thanks for the tips Pete. I know what other things to watch out for now, when it gets really cold.

Thanks for the tip Chris. I know about the hot water. Would never do that. I do have some Teflon spray though so I can be prepared

I know that the windows are supposed to drop a little when you open the doors, and then pop back up again when you close the doors. My question is, can you still open the doors in winter when the windows are frozen? Apologies if it's a daft question but I just had to ask.

Why not make full use of modern technology? If you get a member to go look at it, and you both have iPhones or similar, you could FaceTime/Skype the member whilst he/she is viewing the car. Then if he/she spots anything, you'll get to see it too, and then it's you that makes the decision on it, not the member that's viewing. You also get yourself a live viewing of the car.

I'm also planning on tackling the clicky axles too, weather permitting.

Thanks. I just knew there would be a separate section somewhere but didn't find it. Please mods can you move this for me.

Well, I thought I would start a build thread, even though I didn't plan on changing too much I have only owned my zed for a week, but have been spending already. I have changed the aerial to a stubby aerial. I have some new front and rear badges, bonnet gas struts, and wheel spacers to hopefully fit this weekend if the weather stays dry. Pictures will be added as I go along.

I dropped from 6th down to 3rd to get past a lorry today, and whoosh, I had passed it. Can't believe how quick these cars are
-
That's what I did in my younger days when I spent £36k on a brand new car. Traded it after 3 years for a smaller car, then traded that 3 years later. It took 2 further trades to eventually clear what I owed on my original purchase.

You'll probably find that your mate is either paying over longer than 3 years, or at the end of a time period (3 or 4 years), there will still be a balloon payment to make. Until that payment is made, the car isn't his. At the end of your 3 years, the cars yours.

Yes I did see that one too. Again pure madness, but I admire his sheer determination
-
Yeah, that spitfire was awesome He did the tandem cycle endurance challenge last week, which was also fraught with problems but still managed to smash the record. There seems no end to his talent, or madness.

Hello and welcome. Looking forward to seeing some pictures. I like the 370 in yellow

Welcome. Ok time for me to fess up. I had read so many bad things about Junction 17 cars, so about 6 months ago I decided to go and see for myself, as it's only 20 mins away from where I live. I went with my brother and to be honest we both thought it was a very nice showroom, with some very nice cars inside. We also spotted some outside which weren't in such good condition, ie scratches, stone chips, dirty etc. We were seen by one salesman that asked if he could help. We told him we were just browsing and that we might be back in the future. We were left alone then for about an hour before we left. I then spent the next 6 months reading up on here about what to look out for etc etc, as well as admiring everybody else's cars on here. 2 weeks ago I was in the position to purchase my first zed. I found 2 or 3 on auto trader that seemed to tick the boxes regarding colour, mileage, history etc, one of which was at Junction 17. I made some phone calls but the cars were being bought faster than I could get in there. I kept getting drawn to the Junction 17 one, so I made a call to them. I made a very cheeky offer on the car, which was declined. I phoned up about another similar model elsewhere, but again it had sold. The next day I rang Junction 17 again, and made 1 final offer, which was £1k under their asking price. They accepted, so I paid a small deposit, and then went for a test drive and checked everything out that I had learned about on here, and I picked the car up last Friday. I'm well impressed with it. It still looks, smells and feels brand new -
Carbon style LED bumper reflector offer

Had a quick search on eBay and found this http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/400518385752?cmd=VIDESC&gxo=true Looks it's a lot more easy now to get these to work. Don't have to locate the ACC wiring location, just hook them up on the battery. That'll work if you just want on/off with ignition, but there are complicated laws involved with drl's, ie positioning, brightness, dimming etc etc. The one in your link works on the principle that it's always connected to the battery. Once it detects a voltage increase from the alternator, then it switches on the drl's. When engine is switched off then it switches off the drl's when the voltage falls back below the switch point, hence the 25 second wait. -

What you would ideally need is a DRLR2 relay from eBay. Then you can wire this to your ignition so the lights are on while the ignition is on. Then there's a wire on the relay that connects to your sidelights. Then when you switch on sidelights at night, the drl's dim to half brightness. I've done this on quite a few cars now and it works well. -
Any recommendations for a good repair to 2 small chips in or around the above areas? I know I can look in yellow pages but just wondered if you guys have used somebody and are pleased with the results.
