  1. Not sure why this reminded me and it's slightly off topic, but has anyone watched American Gods on Amazon? It's properly weird, however (here's the relevance!) Anubis, the ancient Egyptian God of Death takes care of all dead people in the world and points them onto the heaven of their religion once he has measured if they're worthy for it or not. When he deals with one person, he says "In life you believed in nothing, so in death you will have nothing." Imagine, finding out at that stage you were wrong
  2. Davey, I'm really enjoying this thread, I just want to say thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Too many people on both sides get drawn into the "prove it is" "prove it isn't" circle of argument and you're coming back with decent answers, so thanks again.
  3. So evolution was designed in by the supreme being, or we're an out of control plaything that's been given up on?
  4. Good use for the French though right?
  5. I don't think any of them explain science as an "organisation", I haven't seen a revised edition of any holy book either. Obviously some churches etc are more strict than others about certain things. There's a church near me who pride themselves in being accessible to the local gay community, despite their good book saying that it is a sin. I find that there is more weird things in the bible that have never been updated and/or addressed. Not my list, I did steal it, but I still found it interesting Homosexuality is an abomination Leviticus 18:22 You should burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice to the Lord as it creates a pleasing odour for him Leviticus 1:9 You can sell your daughter into slavery Exodus 21:7 You are allowed no contact with a woman whilst she is menstruating Leviticus 15:19- 24. You may have slaves, both male and female, provided that they are purchased from neighbouring nations Leviticus 25:44 If you work on the Sabbath, you should be put to death Exodus 35:2 Eating shellfish is an abomination Leviticus 11:10 You may not approach the altar of God if you have a defect in your sight Leviticus 21:20 You can't trim the hair around your temples Leviticus 19:27 Touching the skin of a dead pig makes you unclean Leviticus 11:6-8 You can't plant two different crops in the same field Leviticus 19:19 If you use the name of "The Lord" in vein, the whole town should gather and stone them? Leviticus 24:10-16. If you sleep with your in-laws, you should be burned to death Leviticus 20:14
  6. The big difference I find is, if ALL texts in the world were destroyed, just one day they vanished and our memory of them disappeared too, what would return? Science, being the replication of results under controlled circumstances would eventually come back to the same conclusions. It may take thousands of years, but the same experiments would still be possible and the same results would occur. If you stand in your average kitchen and let go of an apple a thousand times, it will hit the surface directly below it each time. If after those 1,000 drops you let go of the apple and it hits the ceiling, chances are some major variable has changed and not that a mystical being in the sky wanted an apple. Religious texts could never appear in the same way as they are now, a guy called Jesus might turn water into lucozade, which is similar to what happened in the bible, but it's not the replication of exact same thing. Just as a bloke called Bill Shakespeare might write a book about two lovers with families at war with each other, but in this book it's Rachel and Julius. Science is repeatable but still adapts to it's findings. Religion stands firm and says it's not changing.
  7. Ditto this, I like it without. Maybe just allow text and no images in them if/when they do come back. I'd be impressed with this on a paid forum, let alone a free one!
  8. You're all very clever. This update is awesome. Sorry if I've missed it elsewhere, are signatures done for now?
  9. Where does Gangzoom stand if the insurers decide to repair what Tesla said isn't repairable? Let's be honest, you can fix ANYTHING if you throw enough time, money, skill and patience at it. I'd imagine, that being perfectionists Tesla simply don't WANT to repair it. With the costs of a replacement rising, the hire car, the management company fees, car storage fees etc mounting up fast it could be worth throwing X amount at the car to repair it, it would just have to be someone other than Tesla doing the work. This was Rowan Atkinsons famous crash, the insurers paid out more than the original value of the car to fix it, as due to the value increase it was the cheapest option. McLaren got it perfect again for him. Same car, different crash: Again, cost a fortune, but McLaren repaired it. (I'm not sure which crash happened first, but the car is still in existence) A certain TV show fixed this: They (someone else ) straightened the chassis to within the tolerances of the original builders and rebuilt the car to ferrari specs (apart from the paint, suspension and wheels as they were all custom parts)
  10. severity/need Exactly, you have a car, you aren't hurt and you're not out of work, I'm afraid that you're pretty close to bottom of the pile. I'm sure it's frustrating as anything, and I completely get that you worked your backside off to buy a car that might not be replaceable, however in the priority stakes, you're not at the top.
  11. So if a patient comes in to see you at work for X problem and you notice they have Y problem and are completely unaware of it's potential to cause them issues, you'd keep quiet? If you don't want advice, don't post on a forum. Unless you were hoping for a forum member to pop up and magic an answer from the insurance company? Ask a mod to lock this if you don't want comments. In the same vein, how would you feel if your insurers said, "Sorry buddy, we're moving your case to next week because Jimmy just crashed his Ferrari and it's a more clearly cut case than yours." There's a process they have to follow and a queue of people they have to work through. I'd have thought that someone working for the NHS could understand bureaucracy and waiting lists.
  12. They all do it, the US Airforce want to start making the F22 again, however as it runs on "mid to late1990's" software and even hardware, they're struggling to even repair the ones they have. Scarily backwards!
  13. GAP is suppose to be 'back to invoice' isn't it? The point of my situation is even if I get paid the invoice amount that isn't even enough to see me back in a basic spec Model X with no opinions ticked!! there's two versions, RTI which is return to invoice or there's a version to cover the finance outstanding on the vehicle. Obviously the second one gets cheaper as the amount of cover slowly goes down.
  14. When I obliterated my first Z on the motorway my insurers were amazing. Even when the council started being idiots about the armco I damaged (which is very expensive I'll have you know )
  15. I'd just say, if you're shouting about having a friendly MOT, for the sake of the guy who stuck his neck out for you, make sure there isn't a picture of your plate on here. Issuing a fine of (up to) £5,000 is worth having a google of car forums every now and again. I know of someone being caught out on a facebook group asking to rent an engine for his classic vehicle inspection.
  16. 7 years ago I did a 14.9 as was happy, looks like I was way off the mark
  17. Valid point Coldel, luckily I have enough toys that I'd just use one of those if the worst did happen My bike insurers tried to sell me uprated courtesy bike cover and seemed genuinely surprised when I pointed out it was pointless as I have two bikes on the same policy, so if something happened to one I'd just use the other. If they both got nicked I'd use the 125 that is included for free (and if they both got nicked I probably wouldn't leave the house again
  18. I'd go back with "Why did your client need to crash into my vehicle? Why should my standard of living be reduced whilst you put me back to the situation I was in before your client decided to crash into my vehicle." Probably wouldn't get me anywhere, but I'd feel better
  19. Yeah, obviously the doors wouldn't have ever got approved if they had side impact issues. I still find it impressive that neither the latches, or the hinge in the middle of the door were damaged though. I wonder what happens in a rollover though? (I know they're almost impossible to roll as the batteries lower the centre of gravity so much)
  20. Impressive that the door has taken a pretty big hit and has still gone straight up in the usual manner.
  21. Why? Because I'd accidentally set one off in my living room? What's wrong with that, everyone makes mistakes
