  1. So here I am on a course in Aberdeen for a few days.... I called home yesterday and spoke to my old man who was visiting only to be told by him that some guy had phoned about the car??? When I asked what exactly he said, my old man replied " Hello, It's about your Nissan" where then my old man chirped in to say that I was away and not back till Friday, call back after 6pm..... He never took a name or enquired what it was about...... Now, I am not selling the car and have no enquiries outstanding anywhere about it, so I am a bit curious as to what its about..... Thought maybe the rozzers, but then no ticket or visit to the door....as well as there being no reason for it either.......mmmmmmmmm
  2. Well..... That's been over a month this thread has been running ......... Any more info anyone.....??????
  3. Hi Guys.... Just read a thread about a car on Gumtree and thought I would throw in my Tuppence worth... Whilst looking for a Z originally I spent months and months sifting through all the usual sites looking for just the right one.....after a while and you get to know the ads and skip them on your routine searches.... Whilst on Gumtree I noticed a cracking Z with pics and a good write up with semi descent history..... At a very very good price....Based down Surrey way.... I sent the guy a message and he promptly replied..... I asked all the usual questions as well as the...' Why is it so cheap' question...' The reply I got stated that he had just split from his wife and wanted to sell the car quick...... Ok... I thought.... I can understand that...... When I wanted to arrange a viewing , he told me the car was in Ireland, but here's what he would do..... We would arrange the sale through Google Checkout...... This involved signing up to it.... He would give me a sale reference to the car.... I would make payment to a third body at Google checkout, where the funds would only be released after I accepted the car... Once I made the payment he would ship the car over to me, and I would have 7 days to accept, or decline.. If I declined, the car would be shipped back..( at sellers cost) My goodness, I thought........what a bit of really good luck..... But, me being me,.......and a non too trusting individual..... I decided to look into it..... Turns out it is a massive scam not only here, but US side as well.... Google itself takes no responsibility for any transactions, it is only a payment site... The seller gives a false name to sell the vehicle, and puts his real name as the 3rd party..... You transfer the funds straight to him and he disappears ........ Or various variations of the same con.... I initially thought, that with it being linked to Google it would have been ok..... But it is open to a lot of scamming... About a week later the same car appeared on Ebay, for what I would have expected the price to be in the first place.... I sent him a message and told him ......... So just be wary of Gumtree Ads..... As well as the rest.
  4. Excellent...... Glad you got it sorted......
  5. I honestly could not say about the air in the system and what effects that would have as i have not encountered that situaton....but i would have thought it would have went spongy and a bit easier to push the peddle. Maybe worth having a look at the slave cylinder and the fork and get someone to operate the clutch to see if it looks a smooth enough operation ( could there be too much fluid in the res )... maybe slave is kaput or not fitted correctly ( although only an idgit could put it on wrong )......Have they put a non standard fork back on....or the fork has come off the ball inside the bell housing..... Master cylinders do go......but not that common i dont think...... If nothing that has been mentioned before is the cause and Assuming that the clutch has been put together correctly,Unfortunately it may be time to get your hands dirty or arrange a garage visit unless anybody else can help.......
  6. Just thought i would give an insight into my recent experience doing the Ride Drive full day...That my better half got me for my Birthday.... The day was fantastic all round and that was due to the the Ex Police Fast Response Driving Instructor i got for the day. All in all i covered 250miles all around the back roads of Moray and Aberdeenshire in a fantastic dry sunny day...could not have picked a better one.... Learned a hell of alot from this guy , not only about driving and handling the car but road lay out , reactions, planning and execution..... I would reccomend getting yourself on one. My wife also paid for the Driving Assesment which if assesed positively would help with upto 15% decrease in insurance through Adrian Flux as well as a forum discount on top....... All good........so far Got the report back and it was a glowing one..... Julian from Ride Drive even stated it was one of the best they have had back.... Anyway....... Insurance renewal time.......dun dun duuuuuh Exact same details given to all insurers with the exact same mods..... Admiral..........420 Elephant...Insurer at time......WITH NO DISCOUNTS FROM FORUM OR ADVANCED DRIVER ASSESMENT......389 Adrian Flux with forum discount and ride drive discount........2000 plus So even though i would reccomend the Ride Drive program....Paying for the Assesment to try and get a reduced insurance through AF....not reccomended.... Although i got a nice certificate for the wall and a report to waft in front of my missus face when she is dancing like a chimp next to me in the car....
  7. You could go a bit more...but just a little...i would leave at least 1.5 threads showing... Check to make sure the peddle is returning the full distance to the top switch.... If the peddle had been adjusted a lot it would have left a big gap on this sensor to the peddle stop so they may have added a spacer onto the peddle to take up that gap........this now might be stopping the peddle full return, so there still might be a bit of pressure on the master .... Or it may be that the spring is not returning it fully..... try using your to to pull back after a change to see if it moves.....
  8. I love the feel of the car with the 20/25 set up... a lot more planted and precise turning..... I had the set up on with the standard 18's for a while and noticed a good change, but the biggest change was with 19's and new tyres..... I did take the spacers off and run with 19's for a comparison...... I put the spacers back on after 100 or so miles...... The beast feels like it is on rails and struggle to get the tc light to flash on purpose...but i have made a lot of changes to the suspension and chassis and had it aligned...... Like others have said...trial and error with set up.....
  9. Great news Alex, we can use this as a feeler thread to see what interest is out there. 1. Hensh65 2. Drfeelgood73
  10. I just got mine renewed with elephant for £389 fully comp with breakdown cover....Commuting and regular long stay car parking at airport....never got offered a cuddly elephant ...... Mods listed.... Plenum spacer....K&N ..... HFC's ..... Invidia Exhaust.....Aftermarket rims....... Wheel Spacers.....Wider Wheels and Tyres......Chassis braces front...centre and rear....front and rear cameras.....coilovers.....uprated brakes....uprated front and rear arms.... Never mentioned the minions though.......... Pretty happy with that....... Couldnt understand why it was 43 pound cheaper parking on my street rather than driveway or garage.....especially as if its parked on my street, mine is the only house there......mmmmmmmm
  11. yes...both symptoms..... it felt like the clutch was in limbo....stiff peddle from trying to over pressurise because the master cylinder was not being released fully ... and stiff gear change due to the clutch not disengageing....... Mine refused to go into any gear until i wound it back out........i used to have 4/5 threads showing before clutch change which brought it just level with brake peddle I had to go on my back with a torch to see up through the peddle assy.... there is a thread on the US forum where you can remove the foot rest and the side panel and get direct access that way....but dont know if it is same for RH models.... Good luck and hope it is this......
  12. It sounds like the clutch pedal was adjusted and may not have been adjusted back after the new clutch...... Have a look at the clutch pedal adjusting thread, then have a look at how much thread is showing through the retainer.... Your symptoms are just like i had so i had to adjust mine back to only 2 threads showing after the clutch and flywheel were changed out. Or it could be something completely different......But hopefully not.....
  13. I bought one of the cheap and cheerful readers like the second one listed and was very dissapointed with it..... I then got this Texa OBD.......http://www.texa.co.uk/prodotti_dett.asp?sez=dett&id=22 And this has worked on everything so far and the info it gives is fantastic....... Have a read of the Tech spec on the website.......
  14. It was a nice day, but I wouldn't say it was hot....... North of Scotland , up through the hills..... I can see your wear over the face of your tyre, but mine has chunks torn out........I also pointed out that the rears were the mpss and put on about 5 days earlier and they are like new..... so if I had been on a track day...surely signs would be on the rears as well.......
  15. No specialised tools...... But I had a tranny jack with a strap which was a big help..... If doing by yourself, you may need a weight to put on the back of the engine for putting the gearbox back on as it slopes forward a bit when it's off.... I piled my brake discs on top of the plenum which worked a treat.... Just standard spanners, sockets, torque wrenches, rubber mallet, pullers for the bearing, extensions bars( about 50inch should do) Air tools would have been good to get the fly wheel off and on.... But you can jam the teeth of the old one with a crow bar to get the leverage to remove the bolts.....Then If you get the lightened fly from Alex, you can either use the old fly and line up the teeth with the new one in place ,whilst lowered onto the deck just slightly to get a bit of purchase to torque them back on.... Just don't put pressure on the new fly vertically, just line up the teeth so they are interlocked...... Or I suppose you could jam a bar into the holes in the fly against the inner housing........ A couple of strong flat blade screwdriver to crack the housings Lots and lots of patience and biscuits for getting it back together..... Taking all the stuff around it off and putting it back together took the longest.... For me anyway..... You will get a clutch alignment tool with the exedy clutch...... Lots of brake cleaner...... I used 2 full cans to give it all a damn good clean..... Spare exhaust bolts..... I just fitted a new exhaust 8 months ago, and already 2 of the bolts were needing replaced........ After connecting the prop shaft , you may need to turn the engine once it is all together to tighten up the last one if it is placed right at the top.... No biggy..... I would recommend having decent tools to do the job...... If you are going ahead with it , give me a shout when you are planning it and I can be on the end of a phone if you need any help, as I am sure others on here would be as well.....
  16. I got it from ebay...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230968168657?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 It works very well....but I had to do a bit of modding to get it to work. Had to run a small copper wire( insulated) can be found on old hi-fi systems from the back of the antenna up the inside of the boot rubber strip..... out the gap by the small side window and along the thin black strip above the passenger door. The wire is so thin you really have to look close to see it is there...... Without this the aerial is crap.....
  17. Go the immigrant route..... cheap car ...no tax or insurance..... if caught ..let them destroy it and start again..... If in an accident.... walk away and don't look back.... visit paper shop and start again....
  18. So I dropped in to the place where I had them fitted and showed the guys there and asked for there advice..... Obviously they were like ' what the @#£@ ' ..... Anyway, after explaining the mileage and the roads and things, basically he said that it was impossible to get them like that through road use and they had been terrorised on a track and there was no other explanation....... I told the guy that it was nowhere near a track at any time, and unless someone took it for a test drive on a track when I was offshore, and managed to get the speedo not to clock the mileage, and the clutch was on its way out as well....it was impossible.... He is happy to send them to Goodyear for them to do a report on it, which I will get them to do as it will be interesting to find out what they come back with.... I never told them that I had a witness to the road use as I was doing an advance road driving course with an Instructor at the time.... I was going to until he said it was impossible for road use.... The alignment is spot on, so no fault there....
  19. I did actually use ramps at the front end as well scobie...... at that height I would have been balancing on the nose.... Got a set of the adjustable ramps which go to about twice the height of ordinary...... Need that height to get that bell housing out.... Thanks to the ZMAN and Clarke Motorsport ( REDLINE ) at Kintore for having the bits and pieces ready to go.....
  20. Can't say I did any different style of driving or different roads on these as I have been doing on the bridgestones, and they are fine..... May have to drop in to where I got them and see what they say.....
  21. So here is a couple of pics of my front tyres after some spirited driving .... These were brand new and had about 70 miles on them before I went for my day out ( road...not track) and I only covered 180 miles...... so...250miles all in and here you go.... I was not expecting them to be this bad........
  22. Thanks all......Yeah.... I love doing it myself....very satisfying. Not only that, but I go a bit OTT and clean, smooth, grease and tidy up everything around what I do.... And I know it's done right....... Can you guess I have had bad garage experiences in the past...lol The car has been lowered and 19's put on with wheel spacers.... 245/35/19. Fronts....275/35/19 rears 20mm spacer fronts....25mm spacers rear....... Had to roll the arches though.... Roughly got 8cm ground to bottom edge of front lip which is just right.....so far...... The jack is a cracker.... Sealey 2200hl.....
  23. Spot on Tony...... Although tightened....when forced by hand the clamp would slip....the band was unable to tighten any more on the terminal...Clamp replaced ......
  24. Decided to change the discs and pads as well as the clutch and flywheel in one big die hard effort..... All went well apart from the change of clothes needed as it was hammering it down with rain at 2am. With the car half in and half out of the garage, getting those top 2 bolts in the gearbox were a right pain in the backside. Flywheel bolts were a challenge without air tools, but not impossible....Thank god I bought a big high lift jack to get the gearbox out..... Definitely a job I would take on again..... sounded a hell of a lot more complicated than it was to do....taking off and putting all the bits and pieces and torqueing them up takes up most of the time.... Got her up nice and high....just enough space Its a bit of a lump to get out.... All the old gear.... :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:
  25. Had a bit of a weird situation this morning?... Got into the car, ignition on.... Went to start and all power completely cut out on turn of the key... Absolutely nothing..... Totally void of any electron flow anywhere..... So there i sat wondering how to get out without knack wring the window...... Meanwhile doing random presses of the key fob buttons as well as trying ignition again..... Zip...zilch and nada... Went to pop the boot with the manual release when all of a sudden everything came back on with clunks and clicks...... The most noticeable being whirring and winding From the centre console area...as if changing over a cd in the unit..... Car started no problem after that, and has not occurred again.... The only thing I can think I did was leave the ignition on for about a minute or two before going to start her up as I was turning the Bluetooth on the phone on. Wondered if it could be the key fob battery or the chip playing up and immobilising the car. ...??? Any ideas from anybody????
