  1. When you guys say quality of cover, what aspects are yo referring to? Like I say I don't treally have a choice as thier quotes are always hugely cheaper for me than any other insurers, but when I did have to make a claim, I thought they were very good. First claim I've made and it did take some chasing up to get it moving along but they allowed my friend to recover it from the yard to get our own opionion on whether or not it was worth fixing, they then allowed me to write it off over the phone, gave me as good a value that I would have had selling it tbh and I even made an extra £600 by buying it back from them and selling it on. Worked out pretty well I'll be honest
  2. Yes, I absolutely agree with that - the regulation about what comapnies are allowed to "assume" for the renewal needs tob better defined and/or applied. Stick todecent companies that do their best to get a reasonable quote (even though you can always get it down further) straight off the bat, they're the ones that tend to get my business. Admiral had offered me a decent quote for my first year and then tried to double it for the second, when I phoned up to cancel the renewal having got a much better quote from Chris Knott I was offered the whole "we'll see if we get that quoote down for you sir" song and dance; I told them outright that if they can't be bothered to do that first time then I can't be bothered to give them a second chance at it. I now won't go back to Admiral, or any of it's affiliates, even if they offered me free insurance for the year. Yeah, really does pee me off! Most of my experiences with admiral have been very good to be fair, I've only been annoyed with them when it comes to renewal. Sadly I can't stand up to them and walk away as they always have been and still are by far the cheapest I can get a quote from. On comparison sites the closest anyone gets to their quotes for me is nearly £1k more and all the specialists I tried were similarlaly more expensive. They did handle my claim last year very well tbf and were kind enough to let me keep 3 years no claims despite not having them protected, plus their shiny new head offices are a couple miles down the road from me so I can always pop in and kick up a fuss in person if they do mess me about
  3. Along with your mobile, house and work numbers, they also have a very clear line in their policy documents which sets out and indeed authorises auto-renewal unless otherwise instructed. As questionable as many of Admiral's practices are, this one is entirely on you for not reading your documents I'm afraid. If your renewal was within the last 14 days, you can still cancel without any penalty though. Auto-renewal is fine with me, the thing that really p*sses me off and I think should actually be reviewed by whoever the governing body is that they will do thier best to completely rip you off using auto-renewal. Every year the auto generated price for renewal I get sent via mail is almost double the previous year and without fail I spend 2 mins logging onto compare the market, getting a quote from the same people for half the price which they then gladly match. Just a blanat ploy to rip off people who neglect to check it. My renewal price that I was sent around a 2 weeks ago was £2100 I believe, got this down to £1200 using comparison site and then down to £840 by making some alterations.
  4. Yeah I was surprised too as I've always HAD to have my parents on there to bring the premium down to a relatively sensible amount at all, strange that it suddenly reverses. Hi Tim, can't rememeber for certain but I probably did as I tried most of the specialists from those isted on here but to be honest no-one I tried could get anywehere near the price I had in the end from Admiral. Also saves me the fuss of moving. Will definitely keep you in mind for nect year though, I found that a lot of specialists couldn't beat the quote as I'm not yet 25? I always do the same with profession, I work in IT so theres a fairly wide range of professions that apply to me. I found Computer engineer to be the chepaest.
  5. In Cardiff, the postcode is an okay one tbh but I wrote off my 350z last year They let me keep 3 years no claims or I wouldn't have been insuring it at all
  6. Just spoke to Elephant about my renewal, the auto-renewal price they sent me was £2.5k which they soon dropped when I told them I'd had a new quote with them online for £1200 so of course they matched it (robbing bar stewards). Called them back to say I had a better quote elsewhere (lie) and they suggested dropping my parents as named drivers who have always been on there to bring the cost down. Never would have thought of doing it myself as I thought it would go up and they didn't suggest it of course until I threatened to leave. As I'll turn 25 this year they said it might be beter to remove them now and amazingly it went from £1200 to £840!! Pleansently shocked! Anyway, just thought I'd put it out there for anyone else renewing who might find it helpful as I never would have thought to remove them unless the guy told me
  7. Thanks very much all, currently doing a bit of market research and speaking to some local bussiness advice orginisations. Will have a look for a relevant forum, I actually hadn't thought to look for that but could be very useful. Will possibly drop a PM to a few of you who have offered when I get a little further down the line for advice! Thanks
  8. Cheers Dan, very useful! Hadn't even thought of checking the deeds to my home, good place to start I guess. My idea is more distribution than preperation of food tbh, so hopefully satisfying people like the FAS would be slightly more straight forward. You're right about not being the first person, similar products are already out there but mine is a slight twist I guess. I was thinking that apart from speaking to friends and family, maybe online surveys are probably the best way to start. I've found a few who specialise in provinf online market research but not sure how affordable they are at the moment. I may come up with something very informal and primitive of my own to begin with and post on various forums I use such as this one and see where I go from there
  9. Doing some research on this at the moment but interested to see if anyone here has any similar experience in setting up a business from home, involving food or in fact just anything at all starting from scratch. Without saying exactly what my idea is it involves food but would be run from home. I gather this is doable if you register the property and meet FSA checks etc. My initial questions though, if you do have an idea but don't want to go spreading your idea to others before you even begin, what would be the best way to first and foremost do some market research? Also, other than a few Google searches that I have done, how can I be sure there isn't already someone providing what I'm planning? Does anyone have any useful links to check lists for setting up a business, what needs to be done, how I would register it and rough costs? Also, if I did go ahead I would be looking for some packagaing to be made up, where would I begin with this? This is literally just an idea in my head at the moment and never done anything like this before so just trying to gauge what's involved. My question regarding market research being my primary concern at the moment. Thanks in advance for any tips
  10. That sounds promising then! Hopefully that's what they'll find when I drop it off to the second repair shop later on. Cheers
  11. Yeah exactly Chris, initially I was happy to come to some sort of compromise, maybe he could have agreed to take a look at it at least and offer me a discounted price to fix, maybe meet half way but the way he's just been so ignorant and washed his hands of it has just angered me more! Not planning to speak to him again, will only be through formal letters now and if it comes to it (particularly if my iPad is a write off) speak to a friend who works at a solicitors to see if he can send him a copy of any quote from the second repair place along with an official solicitors letter! See how it goes
  12. If the fault he is describing wasn't there until after he picked it up then it's logical to assume it was caused by the shop. I agree it would be impossible to prove it and the best thing to have done would have been to check before he left the shop, but if we assume he's not making this up (which seems very unlikely to me) it's not unreasonable of him to try and get some restitution from them. Yeah, I'm 100% certain in my head that they have caused the problem and actually its worse now than it was before. I wouldn't be so annoyed and determined to get a result from this if the guy was reasonable and offered a compromise to fix it or something but he is completely ignorant and full of lies. Anyway, I've now spoken to the other local repair place in Cardiff who have firstly agreed with me that his reaons for the damge sound like BS as they said but have also said for £10 they will take it apart, diagnose and give mea quote on headed paper and they're professional opinion if it is indeed the case that they believe the damage was caused during the repair. If I do get something like that from them then according to what trading standards have said to me I am entitled to 'damages' from them to cover any further repair or replacement costs. From what I told them over the phone the second repair shop say it sounds like a damaged connector that was quick fixed with maybe some tape to make it look okay when leaving the shop or even the motherboard may be damaged, in which case the whole thing is ruined. So will see where we can go once I have it diagnosed
  13. Spoke to the shop again over the phone today (as I can't easily go there in person during the week) and I was perfectly civilised but he didn't want to know anything about it and even started playing dumb about the ipad smart cover feature which apparently he knows nothing about. He then said that he won't discuss it over the phone and that I have to come in when the manager is around but he won't tell me when that is. I finished the phone call by saying expect a letter from myself and my solicitor and that i wasn't going to let them off with it. Then I spoke to Trading Standards and they say I definitely have a case, particurlaly if I can take it to another repair shop who can put it in writing that it was repaired poorly and not re-assembled correctly. If I can do this then basically under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 I am enitled to either a free repair or reimbursed damages for whatever it costs for someone else to put it right. Think i will start by going to a different local repair shop who have a very good reputation and seem far more professional (couldn't use these at the time of repairing mine sadly) and asking them if they can look at it and if it's worth me paying them to fix it and hopefully finding evidence of faulty repairs.
  14. You say that but it's like taking your car to have an engine fixed, which they do, and it comes back with a knackered gear box! The crack in the screen was quite small so I could see that the enitre display had no issues what so ever and was fucntioning fine, therefore I didn't feel the need to ask them to check it over as I know they are seperate pieces. I know that I haven't damaged it myself since getting it back but of course can't prove that so there lies their best argument against me. However to my untrained eyes I suspect that it may be possible that the iPad has been out back together improperly, i.e. lose connectors or screen resealed too tightly. Especially being as the home button is lose and have now found that the smart cover unlock function no longer works with it, which I did actually ask them about before having it done. I'm thinking these 2 things may be my best argument that the job clearly wasn't done very well.
  15. Cheers Sipar! Yeah I agree that the excuse is rubbish and I'm sure they know that themselves but they also know they have an out by blaming it on me. I think a more respectable company would probably just agree that it was thier fault and offer to at least take a look at it for me. I started out very pleasent when speaking to them but the gyu in there was getting more and more irrate and rude and causing me to do the same, although I will go back again and try to deal with it diplomatically. If that doesn't get me anywhere I think I might be tempted to speak to my old man's friend who is a partner in a law firm to see if he could send them a quick letter just threatening legal action and hopefully scare them into doing something. Will see what happens when I nect speak to them first though.
  16. Cheers Dan! Yeah I suspect you are right. I wouldn't bother taking it through small claims court or anything like that as it's not worth the fuss and like you say they could just argue that I damaged it since leaving the shop. I think you are right though that they should have warned me about potential damage to other components, so maybe I could use that as an argument in any further interactions with them. I think my only real chance of a refund here is that a different repair shop, maybe with a bigger/more professional reputation might be able to take a look for me and in taking it apart if they can see that it was fitted back together incorrectly (i.e. a lose connection or screen too tightly resleaed) and they captured evidence of that then I would definitely have a case to take back to them and maybe a short solicitors letter evidencing that would scare them. Difficult to prove though I would guess and maybe not even the case here. Won't let it go just yet though anyway as I'm more pee'd off with them about terrible professionalism than anything else!
  17. Oh font of all knowledge.... Had a small crack on one side of my iPad mini screen. Took it to a place back up the Rhondda (Porth Mobile Zone on Hannah Street) as they could do it slightly cheaper than others, they were recommended by a few friends but most importantly because they could fix it on the same day before I went on holidays the next day. It was working fine before leaving the shop and looked great. No accidents at all with it and the next time I picked it up was in Gatwick airport and there were random lines all over the LCD display which were flickering. Since then these have changed and are now just single block columns that are kind of faded down the screen perfectly in line with the app icons (mentioned as it seems a bit odd). I called them straight away before going on holidays for a month so they were aware and they said fine, bring it back when you can. Went there today and they completely washed their hands of it and their argument is that I could have weakened the LCD layer when I dropped it initially and its not their fault if it worsened the damage while they were replacing the top glass layer. I argued that's their responsibility as I paid them to fix the fault any damage that surfaces in the mean time is at their own risk. Now I expect the answer to be that I have no come back as I left the shop with it but does anyone think otherwise? In my eyes the nature of the lines on the screen doesn't suggest random damage from a drop i.e. dead pixels etc but possibly that the top layer has been resealed too tightly maybe and it's pressing too hard on the LCD? If I had someone else to repair it and they discovered that was true could I argue a refund from them? Another note which I only really noticed after the repair is that the home button is a bit lose and doesn't feel right to click. No visual/physical damage to the unit at all, its always been kept in a case and then a padded sleeve outside the house and as the glass screen is brand new from them the whole unit looks brand new and no damage at all to suggest I dropped it after leaving there. Any advice anyone or do I have no comeback really?
  18. Btw, did you ever look at fitting the side skirts or rear spoiler from the new Nismo. I think they were 2 of my additions on the new nismo and fairly subtle! Just not sure if they were straight fits?
  19. Not sure if it's just the angle of the pc or the fact it's a blue car but not sure about that. Doesn't look quite right Maybe it only works well on nuetral coloured cars. Defnitely better without the red though either way!
  20. Did mine with plasti dip! Looks great I think, haven't put a gloss coat on yet but was so easy I might just peel it off and do it again with a gloss top coat. It's matte black atm!
  21. Yeah, I guessed it probably wouldn't be a straight fit but doesn't sound like anything a good bodyshop couldn't handle? Definitely made the right decision with spraying the red bits. I've looked at the Nismo skirts for mine and thought I'd spray the red bits on them to match the body colour on mine, not sure if that would work on the bumper too?
  22. Probably my favourite car on here! Makes me want to do the Nismo front end conversion so bad!
  23. Love the set you got on yours Sipar! Don't think they suit my car sadly! Think I'll get the other Z ones and plasti dip them!
