  1. No, as per the original post, because at £45k for a rotter they've always been out of reach.
  2. I haven't driven a Cayman yet and am well aware of its reputation. I think the reason is the 996 left me cold so I didn't think a 3.4 Cayman would be any better. But they must be different and probably a lower running cost proposition so I should get around to ticking the box. The 996TT would simply be too expensive to run, which is why I'm also reticent to get the Gransport despite the glorious noise and lurvely interior. The cambiocorsa is a bit slow in full auto. I appreciate that I'm looking at a mix of GTs and sports coupes here so it's not really apples v apples. Gusset-moistening is incredibly important - I just don't see the point on dropping this kind of money on a car to have the ladies ignore you. Despite that monster engine I feel the C63 (and maybe the E92) would be seen as just another Eurobox. And yes I appreciate this is all deeply juvenile...
  3. why were you looking ? are you tempted ? Not yet as I was hoping they'd be in the more achievable £30k territory by now, as per my original post. Really struggling to find anything interesting under £30k that wasn't disappointing or involve monster running costs so I'll either be keeping the 350 for a lot longer or doing the very predictable "upgrade" to a 370 soon. Test driven the C63, 996 C2, 4200GS, Vantage 4.3 and XK 4.2. Evora, Cayman and E92 still on the to-do list. C63 was the best of a bad bunch thus far (monstrous torque and messerschmitt noise) but just looks like a C class with 4 tailpipes i.e. not the gusset-moistener it needs to be...
  4. Dajw what's your definition of a good price?
  5. Although having said that, amortising the costs over the eight years of ownership it becomes one of the cheapest forms of digital entertainment available. Crazy how much I love the 360 - it's an antique in technological terms. A good example of the importance of creative processes and software development ingenuity over constant hardware upgrades? Smartphones seem to last 12 months before being binned.
  6. OK well having looked into it I'm not sure I want to play Destiny so desperately that I need to spend £15 on a cable then £50 odd quid on a bigger HDD, just seems silly so late in the console's life and while I still have Portal and Tomb Raider to complete. Might just buy an XB1 once they start getting discounted for xmas - suffering a bit of sticker shock what with the price of games and peripherals. This is becoming an expensive hobby!
  7. Data transfer kit? Will have to investigate further... I have the 20GB HDD in that case - didn't think I'd ever need the big one, haha...
  8. I've seen lots of conflicting views on the subject ranging from 1.8gb to 40gb install with all the packs n stuff. Is it possible data from a small 360HDD to a larger one (say 128GB?)
  9. Can I ask a slightly related question? I have about 1GB of space space on my (original and very small) 360 HDD. I assume destiny will basically be impossible to play without deleting a lot of other content I'd like to keep? I guess this puts me out of the running unless I buy a bigger HDD but how do I transfer all my existing content to a bigger one? I'd really rather not have to buy a an XB1 because of this, particularly as I play on a low rez projector running 800x600 and would therefore obtain zero graphical uplift anyway.
  10. On the upside the main components are very strong along the powertrain. My clutch was replaced at 48k and the car lives a hard life on road and track (5-6 circuits a year). There is absolutely no way I would risk doing this with something German. The only annoying problems I've had with the car have been wear & tear related - in the context of a nine year old car. Funnily enough all of them have been carbon brush related; cooling fans (£400 pair), throttle body potentiometer (£100) and a window motor (£150). Suspension bushes wear down too (shocking!). But I believe these are things that most manufacturers build into a engineering/pricing model to generate spare parts revenue and simply a fact of life for all motorists. If I'd thrashed a 986 or E46 like this I would be much poorer by now. I like sleeping at night knowing that I will never have a £5k repair bill for the Zed.
  11. Kyle it doesn't seem to be a random drop - they appear to have enjoyed fantastic residuals which has surprised me given that it's volume production Audi with that 4.2 FSIs reputation for high running costs and allegedly terrible R-tronic box. Do you think the Gallardo DNA means that it's always going to be influenced by its stablemate's residuals? I guess the basis between would logically exhibit a degree of correlation.
  12. Surprised to see this - after drifting very slowly down to the £35-37k mark, at the bottom end of the market, they seem to be heading north up to the £42-44k region? Apart from being a supposedly good car (never experienced one in the flesh myself) is there a particular reason why it's defying gravity? Was hoping these would be £30k by now :-(
  13. I think it would be difficult for bimmer to: Make a new 1M better than the last one but not as good as the new 2M/M3/M4 while also sitting comfortably alongside the 135i/M135i. But not impossible :-)
  14. Given your experiences I can't say I blame you, but modern BMWs don't seem to be the last word in reliability either. Did you spec an LSD? Re the PCP I'd still have to swallow hard to part with £17k for a car and have nothing to show for it after four years. I think I've lost £2.5k on the Zed in three years (not inc upkeep)...but each to their own and it's a completely different thread. Envious you have so much money to burn!
  15. Be careful what you wish for as a LOT of early 1Ms were stolen until BMW made some modifications to the OBD system. Quite a lot of threads out there on the subject...
  16. I think you know what Im going to say ............. how can you possibly call it overrated if you havent driven it?? Ive driven M135i 3 door, 5 door, coupe, 1M, M235i and if you want the comparison E92 M3, M435i, 335i coupe and 335i saloon. Yes, I like the engine Simply put all of the 1's are stonkers (including the 2) - the engine is superb, the transmissions are brilliant and they handle very well - the 2 is noticeably sharper at the front than the 1's but they are streets ahead of the 350/370. Interiors are excellent (I did 1500km in an M135i across Europe and its up there with the best tourers Ive driven) and they are all fast cars, funnily enough the 1M is actually slower in a straight line but it absolutely comes alive in corners, its clearly a one off rather than a faster version of something else. The coupes look great IMO, the hatches are ugly but they grow on you very quickly and M sport suspension is defintiely better than standard BMW, M adaptive is a new level and I think the new auto box kicks the arse of anything BMW have done previously as well. The only thign Id knock is the lack of an LSD but £2.5K to Birds soon sorts that out The 3's and 4's feel heavier and softer but are still great cars, the 1's just feel tighter, smaller and more focused which is right up my street. I would have a M235i on my driveway right now but cant face the depreciation from brand new, Id have a 1M but can quite stretch to £40K at the moment (no depreciation is very attractive though) but if I dont have one or the other in 12 months Id be amazed. Hmm, your logic seems a bit confused?! The 1M seems like the only no-brainer option in this situation? Although if people are treating it like a future classic then rampant mileage accumulation might be inadvisable... In fact I might have to think about getting one. In Temper Orange!
  17. I've spent two years wondering what car I'd rather have than my humble 350z and basically, I can't think of anything. Which is probably why I bought her in the first place. I'd need a budget of circa £40k to get me really moist over something fancier (R8, Vantage, Evora S, GT3 etc). But would I ever thrash something that expensive down country lanes and around circuits like a £6k Zed? Nope. Or, I could go older with a Z3M, Alfa GTV or an NSX but could you thrash them like a 350z given their potential sensitivity and flakiness being 20 years old? No. Have I got the the space, time or inclination to run a second car - a weekend Elise/Caterham toy? No. So I'll probably just end up going for the default choice of a 370, maybe a Nismo. Yawn.
  18. Prettier than the M235i that I spent a lot of time staring at the back of on track. Very fast cars but both hit with the ugly stick. Incidentally if you're going to drop 35k on one of the above why not go for the full fat 1M instead and save yourself a ton of depreciation? They also sound and look better IMHO...
  19. 70k so the gearbox synchros might be getting worn? Probs on 2nd clutch which might also be tired? While neither of these is an expensive job I can't see a 'box lasting 100k if it's being driven....ahem...properly!
  20. Maybe they've revised it now but my friend's E60(?) M5 with the V10 SMG went after six months. Apparently the horrific fuel consumption (funny as he swapped it for a C63!) and the SMG 'box became untenable in the end.
  21. £58 a month to insure a gearbox? And that's just the start... KyleR are you absolutely sure about the massive leap in running costs you're assuming here, on top of that extortionate warranty, higher tax and other consumables, it's: A German car A BMW at that And a 6-series with an Mgine in it Might want to head down to Boot and get some of them brave pills! You've got to really, really love that motor...
  22. The coldest I have ever been in my life was NY in Jan. It is absolutely brutal an not for the faint hearted.
  23. Does anyone really want to have a watch that tells you, in real-time, just how fat and lazy your are?
  24. Will be interesting to see how Apple make this product work where others have resolutely failed to generate any interest. Think I might have seen one person wearing a Samsung watch in the wild. Any indications on realistic battery life for this thing? When the Ipad came out I couldn't have been less interested and thought it would never take off, so I expect to be proven completely wrong in due course. By comparison Google glass looked really interesting but where is it now? As for the Iphone 23,000 I'll get one when it comes with physical keyboard and battery life of more than 12 hours ;-)
  25. Huge Halo fan here like everyone else but what's different about Destiny exactly? Just watched a gameplay video (level 1 campaign walkthrough) and aside from the usual Bungie polish it looks almost exactly like every other FPS I've played in the last twenty years. What am I missing? What's the USP..... "awesomeness" factor that I'm not seeing?
