I know you didn't mean any harm and were just having a bit of fun but to be honest I think it's not really surprising that you got a reaction. As has been said, people equate noise with speed and there are better places to have fun with your car.
I'm a pretty normal bloke I reckon ('cept I don't like football) but I don't mind admitting that I reckon a lot of blokes are basically very insecure, despite outward appearances. That alone probably helps to explain a lot of what you've experienced. I've already posted in another thread about when my partner (who is in her 40s) was driving our Nismo to her mum's and a couple of young lads virtually jumped into the road and shouted "A woman! An F'ing woman driving a car like that".
I find it's best to assume that most people are idiots and then be pleasantly surprised by the ones who aren't.
Actually, having read a few more reviews they do look quite good - most of the criticisms wouldn't be an issue for us. There's a Toyota dealer in Twickenham so I reckon we'll go and have a look this week some time. I'm liking the orange one (although black and white would make for a nice mini-me effect next to the Nismo).....I'll post up once a decision has been made.
Do they also claim to have chosen you to receive a surplus 10,000,000,000,000 dollars in a totally legitimate business opportunity (may God bless you) etc?
Mr Nissan might care they've only sold 65 here. I love being in something so rare on the roads. And I couldn't care less what anyone else says - it's a lot of car for the money and gets so much positive attention. I'm sure there are plenty of good cars that don't sell in big numbers e.g Evora S.
This isn't the first time we've basically been told that roads are out of bounds for an entire weekend so a bunch of chumps can ride their bikes from A to B. When is the weekend event for drivers - a celebration of being able to enjoy our cars unmolested by idiots in Lycra who think they can ignore every rule of the road and that signalling their intended direction or using a cycle lane is too unmanly to do?
Thanks folks. Will see how the deals compare with local dealership. The cars we're looking at are only about £8K - £10K new so I'm guessing the discounts are going to be fairly small - still worth a shot.
Hyundai i10 is the current front runner based on reviews. About 60BHP and 0-60 in 14 seconds.........Vrooom!
We're thinking of getting a second car for practical use. My other half wants something new and since she'll be paying I'm not arguing. We'll probably go for a 'city car' - e.g Hyundai i10 or something like that, as it'll suit our purposes.
My question - is it worth going through an organisation such as 'Drive the Deal' or 'Orange Wheels'. They seem to promise pretty good discounts on new cars but I've no idea if they're good/bad/indifferent or whether it's better to just try and get a deal from our local dealership.
Be grateful for any views/experiences
Thanks
Agreed. I live near Coldel and work in the middle of London. I see the behaviour of cyclists every day and the numerous ones who run red lights are men, women, commuters, couriers, etc etc - they're all at it.
