I've got to pipe up and agree. Once you go Mac, there's no going back. We've got Mini's, MBPs, iPhone, iPad and iPods a plenty. All work together - every one is happy. Such a difference from PC hell 6 years ago - lol. Yeah its expensive, but because it all works, you kind of get over it - like Zed owning vs shed - to add a bit of context. One caveat though is the iPhone 3GS - never was the greatest at being a phone (great as an iPod) - but that's the next upgrade in the pipe.

A little scrote with one of those mini step scooters - who'd been tearing down our hill with his mates, asked me about the neighbour's motorbike parked a bit further down: Kid "Excuse me - is that your bike?" Me "No, it's the bloke next door's" Kid "Can you bang on his door and tell him its a nice bike?" (why couldn't he bang on the door to tell him..) Me Not a blimin word about Precious! Tut. Yoof of today.

Maybe it was the beer, and the HOT serving wench, but Sausalito, over the bridge and around the hill was worth a trip. Very nice floating fish restaurants on old steamer type boats (moored) if I remember right. Well it was nice in the 90's. Not really taxi distance though, but hire car defiantly. In fact a hire car would open up all sorts of possibilities in that area of California. I had the best business trip ever there once.

The Rover was particularly funny in that it was a 827 Vitesse with a brilliant Honda 2.7V6 in it which never missed a beat. A bit tappety at 160K miles, but strong as an ox. The Rover side of that car on the other hand was complete trash. Bits broke, paint peeled, like the car decayed daily.

A good time to catch these things is on V5 update on purchase. The form has blanks to fill in. Alternatively http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/ChangesToYourRegistrationCertificate/DG_4022054 seems to be the way forward. DVLA are more interested in what it means for taxation purposes though - as if anyone would change fuel type I can empathise with your mate for wanting every last detail document-wise straight and unambiguous though.

Weeeellll..... mine's JDM and it's got loads of documentation including export certificates in Japanese, import certificates in English, SVA, as well as clean report on all counts by the mycarcheck service etc.. However my V5 has NOT KNOWN in the engine number line. It's more like the person that first registered it didn't know where to find the id stamp (buried at the back of the block). I don't believe people would 'steal' an engine and replace it with a different good engine just to hide identity. I personally would tell your mate not to worry.

Good response chaps. Seems there aren't any generally experienced problems on here then. We were actually at the tyre fitter to get my wife a set of winters for her civic. He advised 2 front el-cheapo incidentally. Unfortunately I was extracted from the shop (by the wife) as a queue had formed while I was asking about Falkens, so didn't get to drill down into his reasons that far beyond the stated cases of replacement due to cracks under warranty blah blah - don't sell them here any more blah blah.. Looks more like a sad case of flannel than fact then, as cross verified by popular usage in this car club. (My original post was purely to ask a question - obviously not spread a rumour - let it be written large that no faults were verified here and all original rumour came from the thieving gob of the tyre fitter ) As it happens, we left that place and ended up buying the civic a set of 4 Michelin Alpins from Costco (ouch - but they are lovely - if tyres can be regarded as lovely).

I was sniffing around a small (and locally recommended) tyre fitting place today (my rears are shot) and asked for a quote for FK452s.. The response was 'ahh, these were a good 'budget tyre' but we've had quite a few problems with them - warranty issues - where cracking occurs".. Popped my bubble. I told Mr Fitter that 452s were well thought of in this car club, and worked very well on the Z. Certainly first I'd heard of this (alleged) problem. Anyone had any experience of a bad batch possibly going through? Or is this just a load of old flannel to get me to buy his preferred stock?
