  1. Toyota Prius and a tree to hug Then when anyone complains you can say I have an eco car as well Sorry - My other half has an MR2 Roadster great for her nippy OK fuel/running costs down side is its only a 2 seater.
  2. Come on you lot your not going to let Captain get away with that are you or are you just going reach for your Carnuba wax ??? Jez - I'm sure you need to "test" some more products Ordered a £7.00 Ebay keyring cam last night if its any good might get another so I can have 1 back 1 front
  3. I see you changed the thread title - This is not a race But you are going to EAT MY DUST Caveat - Unless you do the fastest lap in which case - Its because it was raining and/or The sun was in my eyes and/or I was saving my tyres and/or I had a headache and/or I was low on fuel and/or the Brakes didn't feel right. But most likley I just can't drive very well (but we won't admit that aye?
  4. I replaced the battery less than a year ago so its not the battery. I also did not experience a slow turnover. As the Zed was not my DD I always kept it in the garage on a trickle (maintenance) charger so the battery was always fully charged on startup. Perhaps try fully charging the battery especially now it hasn't been driven much recently what with it being off the road. On the belt slip - it can be annoying on cold startup but again as I kept the Zed in the garage the squeel only lasted a couple of seconds. Perhaps with the months on sitting in my garage and then the long drive the belt has loosened itself - maybe check the tension. As per Anders it would certainly be no harm to let Abbey have a look at the Zed if only to put your mind to rest if it was only to do a rolling road and let them have a cursory look over the Zed. Thanks mate It has been parked on the drive for the best part of 2 weeks with lots of start stop - in and out at the MOT place that had it for 4 days O and I plugged the alarm back in As I say it has not failed to start once since I had it it just "seems slow" compared to the last one prolly just me She will be in soon for UPRev so will get a good once over then as well and they can advise on belt tension I think its a bit loose but don't want to over tighten it.
  5. It will be going to one of the esteemed traders on here very soon but I knew the belt was rubbing and I am more than competent to angle grind a hole in one of my engine covers Gotta keep costs down where I can, I've got an oil cooler to save for No harm in reading about it, makes me feel less on idiot when I don't have to Google every other word in a quote or post about FI < just Googled that Edit - Suprised I was not picked up for 2.82 pulley when we all know its 2.87
  6. You can get belts can't you? I'm OK Steady gave me a box of bits including a new belt, air filter Berks HFC's etc etc and I just found this on my350z.com with the caption "you have to machine down the cam cover just a tiny bit so the belt doesn't rub against it. use a file if you don't want to deal with pulling the cam cover off" Thanks to the OP for that! Same Mod as is on mine - it also appears my belt is way to lose from the first few bits I have read...... Grub now then more research is required I think.
  7. Jealous now MOT Guy said - get a new battery that one is on the way out - could be onto something here May just be the belt needs a bit more tension on it I think its fairly new - at least mileage wise so it may have stretched a bit? I am being cautious as I have read you can damage the bearings by over tightening the belt. Don't want to do something silly and damage it. Steady if your about any words of wisdom?
  8. Good result then I share your pain my nice new Astra van got shunted up the back today My engineer was driving went to pull accross a roundabout and a car suddenly cut accross both lanes in front of him no indication nothing, My mn stops as he should the lady behind goes into the back of him. He calls me I go out - She says .... wait for it ... Its his fault he stopped in front of me! She latter changed that to its the car that cut him up ... then to "I suppose its my F*****ing Freakin fault" her words..... I'm fully comp so will wait and see what the insurance companies decide! The lady that called me asked the milage 772 - "That is the lowest I'v put on a accident form" O I feel better about that
  9. Have you been reading my other posts? I mentioned the same thing about paying someone to do the work in that. I do love driving it especially the noise in 2nd and 3rd gear as she sits down and powers away the problem is the noise comes in after the speed limit has gone! So I do have to be very careful! Belt slip - O Yes, I get the Vortech squeal on startup the worse the squeal the worse the smell of unburnt fuel ?! This is well document on my350z and Steady had told me about it. After that it depends sometimes its 3 - 5 seconds and thats it for the rest of the drive othertimes it seems to still slip when you go from little or no throttle to wide open quickly other times like today nothing quiet as you like (in as much as an SC is quiet bypass valve and S/C whine not withstanding). Steady had a mod done 2 pinch rollers either side of the belt just before the jack pulley, again an idea used in the states where SC is a lot more common. The only down side of this is that it changes the angle of the belt up a few degrees and this means the belt rubs the cam cover (only just but it does rub) may attack the cover with a dremmel . Not a problem running her she seems to run fine and Steady drove her 500miles the day I got her (I did a good few more on the test drive), Its just annoying when you start it in a car park I feel like I need to tell everyone its not broken its supercharged As I say not a problem but I do think there is room for improvement (before I fit the 2.82 pulley ) Out of intrest whats yous like to start? Mine has never not started but it turns over very slowly in comparison to my N/A Zed.
  10. Thanks for that I now have have tea over my keyboard sort of laugh sneeze thing Does it still work ok? A couple of years ago my keyboard met with a bottle of Bacardi Breezer.............................yup, it died but what a way to go LOL Yes its fine thanks but please refrain from making funny comments in a serious thread
  11. Try these much http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KNIGHTRIDER-NIGHT ... 5184a821f6 Well maybe not I won't be having either
  12. Thanks for that I now have have tea over my keyboard sort of laugh sneeze thing
  13. If its repaired on the insurance then it was never written off so it won't be a CAT D in fact it won't be anything unless they owner tells you it had a shunt. It won't come up on HPi either. As far as I know (and I don't know much) it works along these lines - The damage to the vehicle is assed, an estimate is made using ONLY original parts and the labour is added to it if that figure is more than the insured value (or the amount the insurance is willing to pay for the vehicle) it's a write off. If the damage is minimal a garage or private person can/will buy it (PM the traders on here lol) source parts from aftermarket suppliers scrap yards etc and rebuild it and hopefully do it for less than the resale value of the repaired car. Higher categories are awarded if the car has structural damage or (this bit is sic) has killed someone and "Humane tissue" has contaminated the car. I believe that you cannot rebuild a car that has the highest CAT even if you get a VOSA inspection they are for spare parts and/or scrap only. OK Shoot me down in flames I may not be as current on the regs as I thought I was Please do your own research before beliving any of the above
  14. +1 Surley if they did it they should be saying "very sorry we are looking for the fault at the moment" ?!!! and offering you a courtesy car.
  15. Well in my case for 2 reasons 1. I thought they would have the ability to reset the ECU and 2. my next door neighbour is the servicing manager for the Toyota garage the same group also owns the Nissan dealership so I was after something for nothing (in this case an ECU reset) At least I can still get her to sort my Toyota Hilux - full Toyota main dealer service history you know
  16. I'm lowered and the MOT inspector said "If that won't go over the jacks I cant MOT it" Cleared by a fag paper literally Even better I took mine into Nissan yesterday to enquire about an ECU reset (the pedal thing did not work may be the piggy back ECU stopping it?) It goes like this - Nissan - "Sorry sir but you have after market parts fitted that is why the light is on" Me - "The light is on after we changed the decats/cats 3 times at the MOT Station" Nissan - "I'm sorry sir but we think its the after market parts we don't know if we can read your ECU with the piggy back ECU" Me - "Can you try it and see what it says?" Nissan - "No" Drive over to Mike Stokes - local garage, Me - "Can you check my ECU I have an engine light on, it may not work as I have aftermarket parts and a piggy back ECU" Mike Stokes Mechanic - "Well lets plug it in and have a look" Drink my complimentary cup of coffee ... before I finished it.... Mike Stokes Mechanic - "No problem sir it had a warning for the cat on bank 1. Have you done anything to the zorst or caught it on a speed bump etc?" Me - "Yes changed the zorst etc etc" Mike Stokes Mechanic - "That will do it, I've reset it and it hasn't come back on, keep an eye on it." Me - "Thanks very much what do I owe you?" Mike Stokes Mechanic - "Nothing Sir only took 5 minutes" I do know the owner Mr Stokes but come on Nissan really!!
  17. I had the same debate about how to achieve more power I opted to buy a ready SC'd Zed from another forum member. I am now the 4th member of this forum to own this Zed! Each owner has done a bit more to the car and a lot of £££££'s spent (I have the receipts) My decision was based on finance and time, Quicker and it cost less to trade in my Zed and buy the next one compared to the cost of importing a new SC from the states alone! Add to that all the other mods - Teins suspension, Nismo ARBs, PF discs and DS2500pads, JWT clutch & flywheel, R888's and Kaaz diff etc etc. But it hasn't stopped there. I have already done some cosmetic mods and will be well over another £1,500 with bits already in progress - remap, HFC's, oil cooler etc with more to come!!! Bought not built - I love that. apparently I'm less of a man as I bought it ready moded, Had I taken a wedge of cash phoned Abbey, Horsham or any other car tuners arranged a time, dropped the car off gone back and collected it all done I am more of a man - Built not Bought. I personally don't see the difference?! I'm not knocking people like Ian who did build his own! Without a garage in the freezing cold (nutter) and others, hats off and well done to you all respect is well earned. I am married with kids and about half way through a major house refurb on top of a full time job and dads taxi service (2 teenage daughters!) So I went that way as it suited me and so the little free time I have can be spent driving and doing smaller bits. It's down to the individual on what they want and how they achieve it, I didn't want a scooby my last car was a 911, I wanted something different and I love the look of the 350Z, I don't actually think it's a good base car to mod lots of faster cars, lots of cars that can be made quick cheaper and a lot of cars are easier to DIY mod (I was a mechanic in what seems like a previous life - 20 years ago!) I say - If you want a fast Zed get one built, buy one or build it yourself If you just want a fast car buy something else. If it's a stepping stone to a 370 or GTR get your mind set right and stop looking at mods it will drive you mad. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Just my £1 worth it was 2p but inflation and taxes I'm afraid.
  18. I have a spacer - see here - viewtopic.php?f=161&t=48226 Do you a good deal - maybe intersted in swap on wheels but I hae bid in on fleabay so may not need em PM me if interested. Edit - Brand new never fitted still in the box
  19. I Think track knowledge may play a part here ..... That an me being whimp on the loud pedal - I only got an SC fo bragging rights down the pub and I don't even drink Wht time are you leaving / aiming to arrive?
  20. Thanks mate I don't use traction control any more Strart car turn of Traction - I get the TC light on the dash at low speed tight turns if I leave it on and she has such good grip on the R888's it's not been a problem. I found out last night that a mate of mine is now a Toyo importer/distributer so that's handy I was fixing his PC and asked as he had an email address of info@toyo888.net (bit of give away) He did say order early 888's are like hens teeth! Mod wise - after some research -I'm getting quotes sorted to remove the UTEC and have an uprev remap (with Berks HFC due to the law change next year) and the addition of an oil cooler, we are also looking at changing the SC Pulley arangement to further reduce slip, or a bit of work with a dremmel to stop the belt rubbing when the pinch rollers are adjusted all the way. Will let you all know how the Track day goes and I'm sure when Captain goes flying past (he knows the track) he will be posting Vids of it for months! Still looking at video cameras for me at the moment - just worried as I was told Castle Combe do not allow sucker type mounts anymore?
  21. Bit harsh mate........... I held the bonnet up while you fitted the dampers as well
  22. OK I'm booked Looking forwards to this! BTW Captain did I mention I'm S/C? viewtopic.php?f=9&t=49962&start=30 Over to Ebay buy a cheap video camera now as I happen to know you are very familiar with this track!
