  1. I do agree, and have been reading up on all this cu ft requirements and ports and calculations - what I have learnt points to 2 things 1. It assumes a perfect world - i.e the space in the boot is the space in the boot dosen't matter if you need more - short of driving round with the boot open 2. The cu ft of the base box has to also be measured in respect of the acoustic properties of the car it is to be fitted to, so just because the box has the correct air volume it may still sound bad. At this point I started reading the calculations on porting/venting sub boxes and my head exploded So yes I agree and I do think it should be a bit bigger - especially given the fact he has now put a 12" Sub in! - but the car still needs a boot otherwise Mrs Buster will be removing parts of Mr Buster's anatomy that he would much rather keep The get out of jail card appears to be padding - by using nylon or loft insulation as padding you can artificially increase the cu ft of the box and yes there is a calculation for it and if you search hard enough you can find the acoustic variations caused by different padding material OMG! So we built a box that fitted and put "that much" padding in it and turned it on - Buster liked the sound so it stayed.
  2. Well we have - 400 watt Amp running the front 2 Alpine speakers via a crossover so the tweeters as well 400 watt Amp running the rear 2 Alpine speakers 700 watt mono block Amp running the 10" Sony Explode Sub (filtered for base only) 600 watt Amp running the 2 Vibe 10" speakers filtered for midrange and base The head unit has seperate RCA output for Sub control and full balance and base frequency selection, take all that and the fact that from the back of the sub box to the front speakers is about 4' you can get it to sound how you want - It was built for Kim and she wanted loud clear music not "MAD" base it starts to hurt your ears above half volume and the sound quality is awesome Having said that I know nothing about ICE other than what I have been researching over the last week or 2 on the web and all the stuff was either eBay cheap local auctions or bits I had laying around or already fitted to the car I think it came out quite well At the end of the day she is very happy and it's louder than Bob's and that's all that matters You mean the dark Zed on the wall in the garage? Welcome down for an ICE Install mate Your supposed to sponsor me
  3. I so agree Dave This install lead to this - http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/56841-project-zeebra-huge-update-13th-nov-pic-heavy/page__st__120#entry962508
  4. Thread revival I would like to say that I hold Buster completely responsible for what you are about to read!!! The content below may not be suitable for very young children, Zed purists or the more refined connoisseur's amongst us (SMD). However if you have just sold your Saxo or still spend a lot of time in McDonalds car parks late at night - Read on. As I'm sure you know Buster recently upgraded the ICE in his Zed (twice in 24 hours ) see - http://www.350z-uk.c...buster-updated/ - and added a 12" Sub and Amp, After this was done he showed it off to Mrs Keyser, Who commented on what a big one Buster had and she wanted one like that Of course this was speaker envy on a grand scale she didn't just want to match Buster, O no she wants bigger and better so I started another Sub build on a slightly bigger scale! We stripped out the back and ran in new speaker cables and RCA leads and Buster reconnected them behind the Head unit - He even crossed one over to confuse me later I started making a Box Then out with the frying pan??!! Next the wife says it can't be Square as that would be ......... well "square" so a bit of assembly are you getting the idea of how OTT this is yet? and out with the jigsaw for some curves Rear Amp mount Assemble the top fancy bit sanded and edges rounded Onto the Cubby Amp 1 - 700 Watt Mono for the Sub, underneath this is a 400 Watt Amp running the front speakers which have been upgraded to Alpines with a passive crossover for the tweeter The rear OEM speakers have also been upgraded to Alpine's and there is a 10" Alpine where the Base speaker goes (this is a JDM) Then I made a rack for the next Amp This one wasn't actually used as it has a "buzz" so I have the fusion Amp in at the moment Test fit Everything looking good onto covering Then climb into the boot to fit it all The base box has the 4th 600 Watt Amp mounted to the back and I will be making a cover to hide the wires and finish the boot area tonight and post some finished pics - but in the meantime this is what it looks like in the Zed Hope you like it Bring it on Bob - McDonalds carpark???????????? Autobots!! Let's roll.....................
  5. Yes and no tractor projects just yet
  6. Oi Oi ....... OK it's true Welcome to the OP.
  7. SWMBO says - I'm not allowed to ride bikes anymore for some reason
  8. I have noticed the way everything about you says subtle SMD
  9. Thanks for that. I will no doubt be fitting a port for Bob, he wants you to hear him when he leaves home!
  10. So does porting help with smaller boxes then? Not and ICE expert by any means - I just made a box that fitted in the hole - the capacity is about the same as the origional 10" box - which was not ported. My 12" sub (not yet fitted) is in a bigger box with a port in it.
  11. Here is the Vid - sorry but my phone can't handle the volume - but you get the idea
  12. So Less than 24 Hours after I finished building Buster a Sub Box he's back - Apparently it's not good enough for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway he soon has it out the car and I'm busy making the hole bigger for this !!!! So now he has a 12" JBL and a 700 watt Mono Block Amp - I thought it was loud before!!!!! Won't say anything about the speaker envy he has now started with my good lady wife so she now has a design in mind to take on Buster's ICE install If he wants his changed again he can do it himself !!! Vid in a mo
  13. Yours is lowered SMD its the weight of that AMP!!!!! Great pic from the OP
  14. Well you said you would - I still think your mad, Good start though
  15. OK so Bob came round after work, he had some cloth and glue, plus I had some ideas for neatening up the finished article - We started by making some inside covers Then added some tags to cover the step in the back (the step is needed to make it removable) Covered everything with acoustic material Channel for the wire so it fits flush The finished look - O and SMD said he wanted a Base Off in Tesco carpark - thought I had better start getting ready for that Can you guess where the green Amp and Sub are going
  16. Give it time lol They are all waiting for someone else to be the 1st one to fire the gun Is it a GT as I am looking for some leather door card inserts!!! Bad vulturing Pete That's where your wrong - But I sent a PM sorry
  17. Plenty of members in and around Bournemouth Don't go near the ZedShed it makes your bank manager and partner very
  18. Not a good enough excuse SMD - You know where the ZedShed is!!!!!! A Larger box of krispy kreme doughnuts and good to go. Having seen your Amp some metal reinforcing may be required though
  19. If you add our ages together ................ not as old as you If you take my age from his you get our combined mental age
  20. As we all know a friend in need - Is a Pain in the *** and Buster decided that it was time for another mod to the Ginger Ninja. He had fitted his new Sub where the big Bose speaker was but it just wasn't doing it for him so it was decided a custom Sub Box was needed to help me out he gave me a template that he has been carefully storing for the last 60 years or so Of course it was from a horse and cart and in no way fitted in the back of a Zed!!!! So after many attempts I came up with one that fits Then upon Buster's arrival at the ZedShed we made a jigsaw puzzle which we started to assemble When all the bits are put together it looks like Then we added a top It still needs some acoustic fabric which will be purchased tomorrow but we had a test fit Looks good sounds even better See ya tomorrow mate
  21. Whatever happened to the likes of - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Musical-Dukes-Hazzard-General-chrom/dp/B0053C7NYG
  22. I actually like the cloth seats in the Zed - the wife's has them - very comfy
  23. Yes - My better half made the covers - but very simple to do - well it was for her The cusions are removable so it was easy to make a template and she is rather handy with a sewing machine
