  1. I sold a runabout on gumtree for about £3.5k a few years back, actually as a free tool with relatively easy way to set up adverts as long as you just insta-delete the time wasters/private traders it does get a lot of visibility in your area. Certainly I got no more time wasters than the ad on ebay.
  2. Well, everyone said the coalition achieved nothing where the Tories were the majority stakeholder, yet they got a landslide in the 2015 GE. Everyone in this country has a right to have their voice heard, just because they voted for the side that got the least votes does not remove that right.
  3. There will always be protest, in a way we are all doing it here ranting on about our views regardless of the majority, shouldn't whoever is not aligned with the majority/Ekona therefore not comment? I think its good that people work hard to make their point known, keeps the opposition on their toes, makes them work harder on their agenda. If no one complained or campaigned against them, whats to stop them doing naff all.
  4. Yes I would be offended but in a way that something that generally is offensive, that might not offend the occasional individual (for whatever reason) simply means that they are given permission to continue to use that offensive term against other people. I always hear comments of the like 'yeah me and good old blacky always call each other stuff never hurt anyone' as a way of justifying embedded racism, that because their mate laughs about it its fine to use that language against anyone. The solution I think is education around what people are saying, how quite frankly backwards they sound when they say it in public and the lack of understanding around particular language use.
  5. Problem with that is (and historically this was always the problem) is the lack of people speaking up about what is offensive. Still happens a lot even in this day and age.
  6. It takes into account seat estimates also, if you look here you can see a 4% difference in voting intention would result in about 60 seats difference (more than 4% of available seats) https://yougov.co.uk/uk-general-election-2017/
  7. Absolutely this ^^^ Polling isn't just counting stuff, it uses expansive statistical methods to evaluate data and present a likely result based on profiles and historical data. Yougov are the ones you will usually see as a 'source' at the bottom of any poll, have a read here about how it is done https://yougov.co.uk/news/2017/05/31/how-yougov-model-2017-general-election-works/ It is confused by the language that the media will use, we for instance have a 'poll' on this thread which is a straight count of stuff, but a poll can also be as above which is where a lot of data miners and statisticians do their best to predict variability and overlay on claimed responses in surveys. Interestingly, since polling has gone online (some 15 years ago) rather than clipboards in the street the effect you describe Stu (which is real) has decreased massively, people would always default to what they think is the right thing to say when faced with an interviewer compared to what they really want to say via a survey via their device.
  8. Brexit was a classic example - many people used immigration as a reason to vote leave, but the argument was sound i.e. lack of housing, stress on the benefits system etc. However, some hid behind that where their view of it was much more based on some of the derogatory words used above.
  9. If we are putting political leaning aside and think about many things we care about: 1. It will takes decades to pay off the debt, the Tory pledge was to get rid of the deficit which is a different thing 2. Terror will never stop, we have created a world with unlimited communication and ability to inflict terror, any one can do this on their own or with support 3. The NHS has always been failing, but no one has the cash to put it right Have a read here, I usually as a rule do not post up links on politics rather read my way through stuff and draw a personal view, but its easier this way! https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/apr/14/how-much-of-the-conservatives-2010-election-manifesto-was-implemented Like with the Lib Dems, everyone jumped on them for failing on the student fees (which they did but as debated previously, they were the minority part of the coalition) but they also achieved around half their manifesto even whilst in that position. Its really interesting to read how manifestos play out with a proper review.
  10. Calling someone from the west Gaijin in Japan is highly offensive, the Japanese know it and anyone that is resident there as a westerner knows it so there is no one rule for us and one for them I would contest. Unfortunately too many movies made in the west do not understand this and use it flippantly. But I think its not PC and in fact completely right that as an advanced society we should not be generalising an entire race/country of people with words which are highly offensive in origin. Sure, good friends will use these words to each other, but its fundamentally wrong to use as a generalisation - not PC, its common sense.
  11. When May made the decision to stay away, she had a healthy majority, these were not deemed important and there seemed little to be lost by not turning up. But, it seems it has generated a lot of negative publicity around it and Rudd fell short. I am worried where this GE is going, the only reason it was called was because May felt she was comfortable enough to win easily and strengthen her Brexit hand, however a series of PR balls ups by the Tories has pushed it into unexpected territory...I can only assume the Tories know she is not great at debating and are looking to protect her from a mauling she wouldn't handle on live TV.
  12. I find AT works well for standard cars, if you have something modified you need to focus on communicating that which AT does not do well at all. I also would advise trying to be a bit distinctive in the ad, drop in you tube videos of the car starting up and running, walk arounds etc. Be up front about any issues and say that the price takes this into account, that stops people looking for any little issue to try knock money off. Also avoid arty photos, keep them very functional showing as much detail of the car as possible!

  14. Sold - thread locked
  15. Sat here reminiscing..!
  16. Actually the poll which came out this morning was using the same approach they used to be one of the few companies to predict a Leave win for Brexit.
  17. ISIS has always existed but in such a minority it didn't really impact the world globally, by the west removing barriers to their spread such as the incumbent in Iraq they were able to seize huge swaths of land that otherwise would not have been available. The west has inadvertently helped the spread of ISIS in that respect rather than being target because of standing up to them, if you look through the recent history not long ago the west was actively arming them.
  18. No its not. Platinum will last longer, but standard copper are fine and perform to the same level, you simply need to change them sooner. If you are using it as a daily go platinum, if its your weekend car copper are fine.
  19. The invidia exhaust is freeflowing as are the cats releasing more power, its also considerably louder, more likely to attract attention etc.
  20. Ah the wonders of currency fluctuations I moved to France to work for two years in 2007, came back to the UK in 2009, had my £ salary converted to Euros in 2007, had it converted back to £ in 2009. I got a 15% pay increase just by having favourable exchange rates in those two years!
  21. Anyway, in other news, YouGov thrown the cat amongst the pigeons by claiming their latest polls show a hung parliament with Tories losing seats instead of gaining them as May would have expected...
  22. I guess if you are pretty sure you know who you are going to vote for they hedge their bets and knock on the next door where the person might say they are still unsure and therefore open to persuasion?
  23. There was hardly any choice, it wasn't going to be the other parties and there were talks of Labour/LibDems plus a number of smaller parties to fill up the remainder but the deal couldnt be shaped. So it had to be the Tories plus one other and the LibDems being the biggest loser if you like in 3rd place had the seats to make up the majority with the least amount of partners in the coalition. Clearly they had to do a deal as LibDems and Tories have conflicting manifestos (as of course they should) I read post 2015 GE somewhere (can dig it out if needed) that the LibDems achieved around half their manifesto promises although all that was overshadowed by the student fees which the tories clearly wouldn't agree to as it directly opposed their view on the policy. So, for a guy with 50 backers, in a position as a deputy, against a guy who is the leader with 300 backers - thats not a bad outcome, especially for a country that lacks any experience in coalition governments unlike in Europe where they are more common place. Its a moot argument anyway, people have views on people, text tennis on here wont change either of our opinions
  24. Just going to throw this out there, as a debating point rather than any personal strongly held belief, but we are hardly ones to preach about peace loving? The west have actively illegally occupied a number of countries over the last couple of decades, they have (clearly without intent usually because the opposition deliberately place civilians in military target sites) killed civilians and children with military strikes etc. I wonder if the west could take a long hard look at what they do and how they are perceived before expecting 1/3rd of the populous of the planet to behave in a certain way? When will the west change tact and stop stamping their will on other countries? (note just putting this out there as a debating point I am not religious!)
  25. Nice one - I think also they are very good looking cars (certainly from the back they look amazing much better than the R32) if they weren't such a heavy cumbersome thing would probably have hung onto mine.
