  1. As some of you may know I recently got a 57 plate zed. It came with a sat-nav but it doesn't have the lid that I see others have. I wondered if it was only on older models but looking on Autotrader other 57/08 cars have them. I can only assume it was added as an afterthought by the original owner? Where the sat-nav is there are no fixings for the lid. Thoughts?
  2. Looking forward to this. I always forget to use the manual switch so it's a waste of a function as it rarely gets used. The loss of the manual switch isn't much in return for an automatic function. Great work and I hope to get mine as soon as they are ready .
  3. It must have something to do with the idiots who go around slashing soft tops? 4 people on my road had it happen over the weekend.
  4. Great fun. Insurance details usually takes 24 hours to update on the systems. I had the same problem when I got my Fiesta. I can't blame them though, Iw as 19 at the time driving through a crappy area at 1am (finished work late).
  5. Welcome. I got a 57 plate Zed 2 weeks ago for a few hundred over your budget in midnight blue. As far as I am aware, there are two blues you can look for, the azure blue and the midnight blue. Both are really great colours. From what I learnt on this site from other members is that the midnight blue is fairly rare compared to some other colours. If you can find one in both types of blue, check them both out. I liked the azure but fell for the midnight on first sight. If you decide to go for the midnight, you may be looking for a while though, unless you are prepared to travel far and wide for it.

    My First Z

Try a few more before committing. I drove one and knew it was the car for me, but it has been the car I have wanted since I first saw one. In regard to short-term owners, some people trade up every year. A guy I worked with traded up so often, he now leases cars on a year to year basis which gives him the option to change the car every 6 months. It just worked out easier in the long run. Also, peoples circumstances can change which really affects coupé owners. A friend of mine is 6 months pregnant and her husband is having to sell his pride and joy because it wont fit a baby (no matter how much gaffer tape he uses to hold the baby seat on the roof ). Keep looking and don't drop your standards, if it doesn't meet up to what you want (bodywork, interior etc) walk away and start again. Also, for only a little bit more cash, you could pick up a really clean 56 plate car. I found a few on Autotrader for under £12,000.
  7. So if I'm ever in the Telford area and see a Zed go by with a naked driver, I know it's you .
  8. Nice work (and fast ). £25 for something that most companies charge as a £250+ extra when buying a new car, count me in. Well, under one condition though it comes with this or close to this: I'm moderately mechanical, I can solder copper pipes and I can build a shed, but show me wiring and I look like this guy after 10 minutes -> In all seriousness though, I really want one
  9. I see a lot on the eBay adverts for exhausts that they guarantee anywhere from a 5-15bhp increase, how true is this or is it a typical salesman pitch?
  10. I'm not far away either in Hillingdon. Would be good to see a few locals going to Japfest.
  11. That's what I thought. I'll have to either take it somewhere who can re-inflate it with nitrogen or if I do have a mobile come out and do it just leave it with me and I'll take it somewhere to do it. Thanks guys.
  12. Might have to pick this up myself, my original is scratched and worn out.

    gaiters

I like that , I wouldn't mind one myself if it wasn't suede.
  14. You also forgot HMRC's cut of that, add another chunk on for import duties .
  15. +1 for Firefox for spell check. You get the US dictionary as standard but you can download the GB one and away you go.
  16. Cheers for the reply. I'm was looking to get a mobile out to do it, but my tyres are nitrogen filled (came that way, I'll probably go back to air when this set of tyres are due for a change). I doubt mobiles would carry nitrogen on them .
  17. Hi all, The only real issue with my new Zed apart from the odd stone chip here and there is that the rear nearside alloy looks liked it was kerbed at some point . It isn't the worst grinding I have seen on an alloy but still not exactly pretty. It has grinding marks on opposite sides of the rim, so almost like the previous driver kerbed it pulled away then back in again, probably from a parallel park. Sorry about the photo quality, iPhone + torch at night, but hopefully shows it enough. What options do I have here to repair it? What sort of cost would I be looking at also. Thanks all
  18. I like driving at night. I have to drive down the A3 every now and then from Guildford to the M25 and its great, usually do it around midnight, pitch black with no cars on the road. Not done it in the Zed yet but I'm sure the bi-zenon lights will be much better .
  19. Looking good. I was looking at doing this myself and now want to do it more so as you say it opens the bonnet higher. Have you got a link to where you can get the same ones?
  20. I did a little experiment on the build up to getting my Zed in my old 1.6 Fiesta. I filed it up with petrol to the max and reset the trip computer. And I drove it like a typical city driver in a rush to go everywhere and got about 26mpg. That included pulling away like I was on a 1/4 track almost all the time, changing gears at high revs, down-shifting to pull away quicker etc. The only thing I didn't do was speed to excess (+5mph everywhere at most). When the the tank was empty (fuel light) I refilled and reset again. This time driving in the complete opposite fashion. Coasting to the lights or to the back of a queue. Slowing down gradually to the lights hoping they would change before I stopped. Economical gear changing etc. It came out on 37mpg. Whilst not a scientific test I was quite shocked by the difference. Now the Fiesta only had a 40 odd litre fuel tank but that's a fair amount. I usually drive somewhere in the middle of the two extremes as driving for me should be fun and not a chore, nor should it be a way for me to go to an early grave by being a tit of a driver (also I'd probably lose my job). In the Zed I'm at about about 25mpg which I can't really moan about.

  22. Nothing wrong with the dark blue. I found loads of black ones in the £15,000-£16,000 price range when looking for my Zed. I had to travel out of London by a few miles to find them but they are out there.
