  6. You'll have to read the whole thread to decide if anyone is trolling ... it's quite a good read anyway
  7. Then try thinking about 5) in conjunction with 4) The following diagram illustrates the difference between a horizontal line, a line of sight, and a level line - you will note that a level line follows the curvature of the Earth
  8. I've read the topic from the start and I still don't really know what we are arguing about discussing, so to make it clear where I am I'll make the following points and Davey can then come back with his counter arguments. 1) The Earth on which we live is a globe, very nearly spherical in shape 2) The radius of the globe is approximately 6371 kilometres 3) A plumb line will always indicate the direction to the centre of the earth due to gravity 4) A level line is a line at 90 degrees to a plumb line at any point on the Earth and as a result, a level line follows the curvature of the Earth 5) Water at any point on the Earth will always settle level and therefore follow the curvature of the Earth (not taking into account wind, waves and tides) 6) Simple geometry allows calculation of other parameters, such as the distance to the horizon from a point on or above the Earth's surface 7) Jonathon Ross and Jo Brand are not funny 8) Ekona is a driving God (Well maybe not the last one, but he knows what he's talking about when it comes to Porsches and tyres)
  9. @davey_83 Your posts are completely unintelligible (to me at least) ... it might help if you read back your posts before hitting the button and fill in the missing words and punctuation just sayin'
  10. What tools are needed to fabricate a simple bracket ? Hacksaw ? Hammer ? Vice ? Drill ? about 20 quids worth or have I missed something out ?
  11. Here's the NHBC advice (not that I take much notice of the NHBC's opinions) MASONRY 1.4 - S5 Masonry shall not be laid in cold weather unless suitable precautions are taken MINIMUM TEMPERATURES Materials which have been damaged by frost or are frozen should NOT be used. When the temperature is below or likely to fall below 2°C, masonry should NOT be laid unless heating is provided. The temperature should be checked throughout the day on a maximum and minimum thermometer. PROTECTION Newly laid masonry will need protection when the temperature is below or likely to fall below 2°C.
  12. Yea there's a clause in the specification usually ... something like: 'Masonry should not be laid until the ambient temperature is 2 degrees and rising' Freezing conditions will form ice crystals with any free water which will causes expansion and obviously will weaken the brickwork/masonry. Conditions here today will be OK.
  13. And without checking I'm willing to wager that 90% of the runways that can accommodate a large civilian aircraft are north of the equator...
  14. Brickie turned up today ... I didn't expect him to TBH
  15. Sir Issac Newton (remember him ?) looked into this and concluded that the Earth's core must be of higher density than the rocks on the crust. More recently seismological measurements have led to more accurate conclusions regarding the Earth's makeup. ETA Oh and your maths is a bit out too ! 7 miles = ~ 2.5% of the distance to the Earth's core (450 km)
  16. Ford's plans https://www.hotcars.com/ford-replace-majority-lineup/
  17. Bit of a hiatus ATM due to weather P.S. I use the tennis ball method for the Porsche
  18. Convention is that you view the car from the rear ... no confusion there
