  1. Hi mate,

I'm no expert on it but I believe that the Fidanza flywheel chatters below about 2K revs, which is normal. This may the answer to both of your questions - should be some more info on here somewhere though!

    Hope this helps. :)

ps - Why not say hello in the introductions bit !!!

  2. Common sense tells me that when I am near a road, there might be cars about, so I better pay attention.

Unfortunately our EU overlords have to cater for the vast multitude of people on the roads for whom sense is not common...

Then they should leave their EU parliament building more often and see what the real world looks like.

This kind of cotton wooling is what is halting human evolution, it actually promotes human retardation because people are put into a world where they don't have to think about dangers anymore, as it is lawfully eliminated.

I completely understand where you are coming from - but because there are so many let's say - unaware - drivers out out there, these safety measures have to be brought in to protect others. I think there should be more about driving in different weather conditions included during initial lessons and testing, rather than fannying about reversing round corners...

Bright low sun? Lights help you be seen. It's about being seen not being able to see.

Couldn't agree more - but so many people don't care about what behind them  I wonder if rear DRLs will be considered?

  3. I believe it's a directive from the European Commission aimed at reducing accidents and lowering energy consumption (what - from your own car battery? Cheers...)

As for reducing accidents - apparently, a test on a range of road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, etc... found that cars with DRLs were more easily spotted coming upto junctions and so on.

Makes sense, and I guess anything that reduces accidents is a good thing?

Still - taken the EC collective genuis a while to catch on since Audi introduced them to their cars (albeit as a styling accessory) nearly three years ago...

  4. Had a 4 hour journey home, cd changer was empty but I did find an eric clapton tape in it

Chose to listen to the v6 purr instead

Given that the Zed came out in 2003, I do still wonder why Nissan felt the need to include a tape deck?

Still - came in handy for my ghetto iPod/tape mod thingy...

  5. You can replace diff oil and gear oil if you wish - in fact I'm about to do this on my Zed at the weekend (I'm on about 82K). I bought my fluid from :pmzmanalex: genuine Nissan stuff and cheaper than you'll find at the main stealers. You will need a fluid suction pump to do this job - you can get them off ebay for less than £10.

It is important you get the right grade stuff - ZMANALEX will tell you what is needed for the JDM - I think the diff oil might be different to what UK cars take.

  6. I have installed the Denso Iridium plug - if you :pmzmanalex: he will tell you what you need for your car (I don't know if JDM is the same as UK for this) and I think he can supply them. I think there is a guide on here for how to do it.

The magnetic sump plug replaces the normal sump bolt when you do the engine oil change - the magnet then draws any tiny metal particles out of the oil as it passes through the sump, helping to protect your engine.

Don't worry mate - I knew nothing about cars when I got my Zed - I learnt loads on here so ask away!

  7. Okay so panel filter better performance than a induction kit! Cool, sounds good to me! what oil? Is that fully sythetic?

Yeah the Fuchs stuff is fully synthetic.

So go for a k&n panel filter?

    K&n oil filter

any other cheap bits I can do to look after the zed and improve performance?

Depends what you mean by cheap!

In terms of looking after it - follow the service schedule at a good garage and use decent fluids and parts - good tyres etc...some people do their own interval engine oil change between servicing. Upgrading the spark plugs is a cheap option and fairly easy to do

  8. A good panel filter in the stock airbox is the better choice for power. An aftermarket cone style intake can give a better noise but may cost a bit of power - but probably not noticeable for normal driving.

Oil - Fuchs Titan Race 5w30 is my choice - good stuff.

    :)

  9. But I still don't see the point  You still need to change the filter - because I track I change my oil and filter every 4-5k (well.... Alex does  ) I'd want a new filter each time - whats point in putting clean oil in if the filter is dirty?

I thought a filter would outlast that sort of oil change frequency?

This pump idea sounds like it could be quite handy (not to mention quicker) for those doing frequent oil changes - just so long as it gets all the old stuff out.

Anyways, my advice is: just don't do an orthodox oil change in the wind. I ended up looking like a friggin' dalmation!

  10. Probably fixable, standard HU is notoriously pants mate - I've had enough of mine, hoping to go AEM soon. You'll need some additional wiring looms to hook AEM up to the steering wheel controls etc... Plenty of example and advice on different set ups in the ICE section.

  11. The standard tyres are RE040's all round - not as good as the RE050's so perhaps the previous owner was in the process of upgrading? You have standard sizes on and I think standard PSI is 36 - there should be a little plaque on the driver door frame - if not the manual should have it. :)
