  1. Hi mate,

    Hope you get this sorted - I think you're showing a lot of integrity and trying to do everything correctly. Fair play for keeping your cool with people like that.

    Despite all the good advice on here, the only people you definitely tell you what will happen to your excess and so on is your insurers. Best to just keep open communication with them. The main thing is that you have evidence - even with the fuzzy pic of his plate I reckon the police would easily be able to confirm the vehicle.

    Needless to say I'd love to see the guy who bumped you get his comeuppance.

    Good luck :thumbs:

  2. It called Barclaycard Freedom - you earn money on transactions at certain places (Shell is one of them) and you can redeem the on other things. :thumbs:

    Mind you, you are then paying a wee bit of interest on your fuel unless you clear balance every month...

  3. Personally I think people can read too much in to mileage - but I appreciate that it can affect resale value. I've racked up 30K in 2.5 years or ownership. I even considered buying an old banger to get me about to keep Zed mileage down, but then the Zed basically becomes a very expensive toy and I'd have to start considering which journeys I should or shouldn't use it on.

    My Zed will definitely hit the 100K mark under my ownership, but I'll have loved every mile of it. And if the car is well looked after and properly maintained then I see no reason why it won't do another 100K!

    Of course, it depends on how those first 100K have been conducted! :)

  4. V-Power card here too. Plus purchase on Barclaycard which has a linked points system.

    Everything has linked reward points these days in order to get customer loyalty.

    Choose your poison and get whatever card goes with it.

    :shrug:

  5. There is no legal obligation to carry a spare wheel so I guess it can't be held against you if you don't have one. Where the breakdown guys take you depends on the policy you have.

    I don't think there is a right or wrong answer as to people's choice to carry it or not; everybody got their reasons.

  6. I've ditched mine - more boot space, less weight (plus rarely drive with more than half a tank), mpg...

    If I get a puncture then I would call my breakdown guys. I pay them to save me.

    As for poor phone coverage etc... I'm happy to take that risk and I'll just deal with it if and when it gets me in the sh!t.

    Meh!

    :shrug:

  7. All looks okay there mate. It is well worth the effort to get that plenum shiny. I was pretty nervous the first time I took it off too, but you will be fine after you've done the procedure once through and find that your car is still okay afterwards.

    Just double check all bolts and hoses afterwards. That hose you asked about - I forgot to reattach it once. My first roundabout was more interesting than normal... :scare:

  8. They must be accepting some liability for this else they wouldn't offer any discount at all. The mechanic who inspected and 'repaired' it the first time you went in has been, from what you've described, at best careless and at worst negligent. You have driven away from a repair to your brakes, which have subsequently become unserviceable with terminal damage to the discs. :scare:

    The 'closer inspection' that you mention should have been done in the first place. I would definitely pursue a full repair at their expense.

    If they wont do it, get in touch with trading standard etc... to garner further opinion on it.

  9. LOCKWOOD & GREENWOOD Audenshaw, Manchester

    Another EXCELLENT service. P2, discs and pads fitted all round, bled clutch, front tyres fitted and a couple of other 'niggles' sorted. Great service and the guys take the time to chat about the car, make recommendations and they also went the extra mile with little things - eg, tightened handbrake without request, wash and vac, etc...

    And - forum discount!

    Car feels great.

    :thumbs::thumbs:

  10. Hi,

    Just got my car back from a service - they had a look at my passenger window problem. Couldn't see anything wrong with it mechanically, however they did recommend regular cleaning of the channel and some lube (WD40 is fine) to hel the window operate. Of course you will then need to clean the glass!

    Seemed okay on the drive home. Might not be the answer, but see if it helps in your case. :thumbs:

  11. Hmm... interesting point, although I haven't had any issues with marketing or junk mail etc... Not that bothered about the money itself to be honest - rather the satisfaction of 'beating the house'.

    Fully agree with your second point though! :)

  12. This isn't a scam or anything, not clever enough for all that! It's more of a pointless ramble about how to make very little money, but I'm lonely and I just love the principle of it...

    Scratchcards... for once the small print is worth reading.

    Example:

    You get scratch card in newspaper (usually from a company called Purely Creative). You throw in bin (sorry, recycle).

    or

    you scratch or panels to find you have three monkeys, or whatever. Wow - big win! Probably not. To find out you have to ring number or send text. You get text back 3-4 times costing £1.50 a go, or equivalent phone call. So it costs you about £9 to find out you have won a minimum of £10. Minus cost of stamp to send claim (2nd class =30p). Not worth it.

    Profit = 70p

    BUT

    Read small print, write letter to company asking for claim number. Wait one month, get claim number, fill in card, send back. Wait one month, get cheque for £10. Bank. Minus cost of 2 or 3 stamps.

    Profit = c. £9

    Plus they even send you more scratch cards so you don't even have to buy a paper! I do this on a rolling basis and bag around £50 a year.

    People don't do this because they don't have the patience to find out if they have won or can't be bother to write a letter.

    I have patience. One day, three monkeys WILL buy me turbo. :yahoo:

  13. Star Performer 245/45/18. Cheesy name says it all...Anything but is all I can say.

    Okay - so before I get any abuse about putting cheap sh!tty tyres on my beloved Zed please let me explain :surrender:

    Firstly - they weren't cheap - in fact they cost me more than Toyo Proxes, which I usually get.

    I was caught out by a slow puncture (screw stuck in) which was too close to the wall to repair. This was on a Thursday. On Friday, I was driving from Salisbury to the Isle of Skye (north of Glasgow fab drive - another story...). So, do I risk driving over 1000 miles round trip on a punctured tyre, or get the only ones in stock at the only place open (National Autocentre, nothing wrong with the service I got) which were the aforementioned 'Star Performers'. Sadly, and crying as they were mounted, there was only one safe choice.

    They were crap - and this was after 200 easy motorway miles to break them in mind. Even on road as dry as Ghandi's flip flop, the back was all over the place, even on gentle slip roads! etc... In the wet, my Zed's arse wasn't the only one quivering! :scare:

    Worse thing was - I was hardly able to enjoy the drive to Skye, which I had looked forward to for months, because this rubber was scaring the sh!t out of me.

    So - to sum up the obvious, don't buy these. They are in my garage as emergency spares - I wouldn't even insult anyone by trying to sell them on.

    Silver lining - picked up a couple of rear Proxes on fleabay for £160, done less than 500 miles!! :thumbs:
