I'm guessing the warranty thing is probably a blanket protection against their products being combined with other brands which they can't guarantee. Or, more cynically, maybe it's to encourage people to buy a matching brand flywheel...
I think he was trying to suggest that there is no point buying a higher performance flywheel if the rest of the car hasn't been upgraded in kind. Whilst I see what he means, not many of us can afford to upgrade a whole car in one go, so gotta start somewhere!
Anyhow, I have bought the kit and it's not making my Zed any better in the boxes!
Thanks for your input

I'm thinking maybe a fine mesh gauze to pre filter any substantial debris, then perhaps I could fashion a 'windsock' out of something suitably robust (and heatproof!) to the inner snorkel
-
Thanks guys,
Might look into the nostril for direct cold air, although would you end up getting a fair bit of crap distributed into the engine bay? Do they include a gauze/mesh inner to filter out all the flies/leaves etc...?
I have been looking at cooling panels - are these things effective or more of a dress-up item? That said, I very drawn to the new forum slam panels!

Looking very nice mate
I'm considering getting spacers, they really give the Zed a more pronounced stance!
New head unit on the list too - how's that Pioneer?
-
Yeah he was very helpful when I was making the decision to buy it; answered all my newbie type questions - really quick delivery too! He also said the only real side effect was the extra idle noise you mention.
It was just the suggestion of extra torque being applied to a clutch not rated for it that alerted me - but now I'm thinking surely this only becomes a problem if you're hooning it. If the collective experience of drivers running this combo on here states that there isn't an issue, then I'm happy to take that on balance. Maybe the Exedy guy was angling for me to buy an uprated clutch from him!
Perhaps I'm just a bit 'spooked' prior to an expensive installation.
Cheers

I bought the flywheel from that very man!
Although it was a while ago now, last year in fact; only just getting round to installing the parts. He did explain the characteristics of the Fidanza once installed, which sounded good and I know a lot of members love theirs - just having second thoughts now after my conversation with Exedy.
-
Hi folks,
I know clutch and flywheel has been discussed on here loads and I have read them, but please bear with me - I just got off the phone to Exedy with the following info, leaving me with some decisions to make, and I'd appreciate your help.
I have bought a standard Exedy clutch from a supplier on Ebay (who I have learnt Exedy will no longer deal with over trading disputes). Maybe a schoolboy error, however Exedy have confirmed the part numbers so looks like I got away with it - although the clutch is not covered by Exedy due to its being purchased on Ebay. Not a problem - that was my choice.
Going off some of the reviews and opinions on here, I decided to buy a Fidanza flywheel to go with the clutch.
However, whilst chatting over the flywheel/clutch with the Exedy rep, he questioned my decision to install a lightened flywheel alongside a standard clutch which isn't designed for it. In addition he asked, since my car is otherwise unmodified (to any significant power degree) what's the point in a lightened flywheel?
He suggested that the Fidanza flywheel will expose the standard Exedy clutch to a higher degree of torque from the engine than it was designed for, unnecessarily increasing the wear on the clutch and for the sake of hardly noticeable performance gains. If installing the Fidanza then I should choose a higher performance clutch, or get a standard flywheel - seemed logical.
In addition, he stated that even if my clutch had been under warranty, this would be immediately void if used with a non-standard flywheel.
Have I been stupid to buy the Fidanza?

I appreciate the info mate, cheers!
I'll see how I get on; to be honest I was looking for a pleasing sound and a bit of dress up for the engine bay. Which probably makes me a tart!
I had thought about the heat soak and sadly the Takeda doesn't come with a heat shield or box. That said, my intention is to look into adapting an existing model to fit, or fabricating something myself.
Although I suppose that would make it simply a posh airbox...
-
Now you tell me!
Why is that, and is it a significant loss in comparison to other systems?
-
Thanks for the input guys!
I guess nobody has either - well anyway, decision made: the Takeda is INBOUND! (apparently Fujita are not doing so well these days) I'll post up pics and clips in due course...
-
Hmm, I must have missed that original report - but the way this was being presented yesterday made it sound like this sort of thing was still ongoing.
-
Tuf tuf? I think our equivalent is Max and Paddy!
If it is the Welsh police than that's a shame; the A55 coastal road is a lovely drive in the summer.
Still, stick a red dragon decal on your bumber and you'll be fine...
-
Hi,
yeah definately would not buy a new cubby just for that! Any decent plastic paint should be fine, but as with painting most things and even though it's a small job, prep it up properly before painting or you'll be in the same position again after a few months.
As for colour, sorry no idea on the stock shade - but you could always custom it! Maybe match the colour of your Zed, which is..?

Yesterday, I attended a Speed Awareness Workshop to be reprogrammed (ironically enough I had to absolutely tank it to get there on time following the Stonehenge bottleneck...)
Interestingly I was the youngest person there (28) with the average age being around 45. Interesting. So, middle-aged Malcolm, no doubt a Daily Mail enthusiast, had seen me rock up in the Zed so I went into his category of young hooligan who think he's invincilble...blah..rant...why do people buy these fast cars...etc...
(In fact, at the time I was caught in the work's Landy)
Anyway,
As we discussed the placement of speed cameras, particularly, mobile units, the following info was revealed:
In MOST counties, due to regulations attached to the particular budget from which speed detection equipment is sourced, accompanying signage must be displayed when they are being operated.
BUT
In SOME counties (and they refused to say which) a different budget is used meaning that those signage regulations do not apply. So, mobile police units in particular can operate anywhere at any time and there will be no warning.
FURTHERMORE and this is the kicker...
SOME police forces have even resorted to disguising speed cameras in horse boxes, accompanied by a suitable muddy range rover!!!!
Country folks stopping for a brew in that lay-by?
Maybe not...
My new chum Malcom wasn't impressed...

Nice ride mate, good time of year to buy it too - I got mine during the winter and learned some respect after my first high speed fishtail; go steady on the right foot for a bit!
Take care bud

Hi mate,
yup, I know that feeling too - here is a good guide for repair, depending on how bad the damage is.

Hope you get them sorted.

A guy where I work is running a modified/barely legal Peugeot 205. Old school, but it leaves me standing, 0-60mph in less than 5 secs. After that I'm going past. To be fair, he's spent nearly the cost of a decent pre-owned Zed on it!
Can't see it appearing in Fast & Furious though...

Hi,
Does anybody out there have any experience of either the Fujita or Takeda Short Ram Intakes systems (for a 2003 Coupe)?
I like the look of both, and have read good reports on the sounds. I just wondered if anybody has a comparative opinion on the performance of them, or which they would favour and why?
Cheers

Cheers guys
I'll post up some more pics when I have the new bits and bobs installed.
For cleaning the bay I used Autoglym engine cleaner on all the exposed parts I could get at (covering up the electrical bits with cling film). I used AG bumper care on all of the plastics which brings them up really well. I find it easier to take bits of (airbox, intake pipe etc...) and clean them separately, and clean the other exposed bit they leave while they're out of the bay. An old (or new if you like!) toothbrush comes in very handy.

Hi all,
I posted up a while back about my engine bay project.
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=31204&start=0
It's a work in progress but here's a quick update on things are going...
Engine cover complete and lacquered, painted washer bottle cap (simple job but quite effective), engine damper installed (not on in pictures) gallery bolts installed.
My intention is to put in a carbon fibre cooling panel and some bonnet lifters. I've got polished coolant and power steering tanks on the way from Envy, and am looking at either a Fujita or Takeda SRI - anybody got any recommendations on that?
I'm thinking of painting the battery covers or surrounds, but don't want to overdo it in there - will think on.
I also want to clean up the front of the engine block, I don't think the previous owner went under the bonnet at all! - does anybody know the best way to do this?
PLUS - just seen djtimo's thread on the painted cam covers - loving the RED, this could get v interesting...!

Friday 2 April
Nice to see another bright clean Zed at the start of what would be a six hour drive home...!
Saw you coming up right behind me - exchanged flashes and let you past.
-
Lovely GM roadster parked up right behind me! Unicorn Hotel in Gunthorpe, Notts. Sunday 7 March - mine was the slighty mucky GM '53
-
Hi mate,
I'm neither of the two you mentioned but I'm just down the road in Poynton - drive through Macc most weekend ends - always fill up at the Shell garage in Tytherington! GM '53 plate.
-
They'll have to catch me first!
Although with the Zed in snow they just might...
Where to go?

Hi mate,
I used Admiral for my first year with the Zed, but have now moved to Adrian Flux - they specialise more in performance cars and were able to beat Admiral's quote by nearly £100 - including modification cover!
That said, I never had any problems with Admiral - good service. Worth trying Adrian Flux though.
Hope this helps
