  1. Thanks Husky - well I guess I wrong about there being a mixed opinion!!!

I wonder if anybody has ever thought of selling the actual tyres in different colours, what with the unbridled strive for individuality.

I might take it to the Dragons Den... just to hear Duncan Bannatyne eyeball me and say "this is b0ll0cks, I'm oot!"

  2. Has anyone ever thought of using one of those white (or other colour) marker pens to fill in the brand name on your tyres, as in the example below?

I've only really noticed it on racing cars, some American muscle cars, but never seen any car on a UK road with it.

    I anticipate mixed opinion...!

  3. Hi mate,

I just moved into my first house a month ago and have since painted 3 rooms (not as much fun by the third...). Most emulsions covered a multitude of sins, so if your walls are in good nick surface-wise, you should be okay with one coat. I didn't wash mine at all and they turned out fine - although I was going from light colour to dark.

Other tips - don't buy cheap rollers and brushes like I did at first. Job takes twice as long.

If you mask anything, use low-tack tape.

Unscrew light switches etc and paint behind them - looks better than trying to go around. Same with radiators.

When you paint round door frames etc using a brush - after applying the paint, lightly skim across the surface with the very tip of the brush - hardly touching, this will 'lay off' most of the brush lines leaving a smoother finish.

Sorry if any of these seem obvious - I sort of learnt as I went along! Hope this helps :)

  4. Hey folks,

I recently had my clutch and flywheel replaced (done roughly 70,000) - standard Exedy and dual mass flywheel - and while the clutch pedal is nicely lighter, it's become more difficult to shift down into 2nd and 1st when decelerating.

Also, I feel a very slight 'burr' at the bottom of travel of the clutch pedal when accelerating and shifting up into 4th and 5th.

I wondered if these are issues with the fitting, or something I'm doing wrong? Anybody had similar?

Everything else with it seems fine.

    Thanks for any help.

    Steve

  5. What is their justification for the increase? Wouldn't bother with the comparison sites. Various insurers recommended on here mate - Bell, Chris Knott, Adrian Flux to name a few. Call direct for the best deal - any them should be mod friendly too. Hope this helps. :)

  6. Some good options and deals on Opie Oils - you can get forum discount. Various recommendations from owners on here but I personally go for the Fuchs Silkolene Pro S 5w30, really good stuff - (they've now renamed it 'Titan' but it's the same oil)

  7. however, after 15 years of training i think that the best form of self defense is the 200 meter sprint ...plus less injuries whilst training ;)

seriously now, after 15 years i know very well that avoiding trouble is the way...there is always someone out there that will fill you in not to mention daggers, guns and stuff. do it as an exercise not as self defense... thats from experience :boxing:;)

    +1000!

That's very good advice, probably the best on here - especially if somebody has a weapon. Even a martial arts expert would be lucky to avoid serious injury against somebody with a knife or worse.

Don't believe anything seen on the tv or movies, or any macho rubbish about being a coward. A real martial artist can overcome their own pride and know when to run, and go home safe to their family.

  8. My advice would be to declare the mods to the best of your knowledge.

I was under the impression that for an insurance company to refuse a pay out due to an undeclared mod, they would need to prove that the part in question was a contributory factor to the incident. The exception to this is the case of the car being stolen, where they may insist that mods make a car more attractive to theives, so must be declared so they can risk assess accordingly. Perhaps this varies for company to company.

Things like exhaust and air filters shouldn't really make a huge difference as you're not massively changing the performance of the car. If they try to charge through the nose - let them know you won't be staying with them next year. You will probably hear: "Oh, I'll just speak to my supervisor and see if we can do it any cheaper..."

  9. I haven't seen one myself yet so can't judge the difference in quality or entertainment so I will just have to reserve final opinion until I've compared it. That's said, I think it will definitely be more successful on the right kind of film - a lot of people have said it worked really well on Avatar.

But the cynic in me can't help thinking it seems a bit gimmicky at the moment and before long, other industries will twig on and start selling designer 3D glasses/visors/cases etc and piping 3D-vision into you front room/iPod (at additional cost)!

Then again it could just be the next evolution in audio-visual entertainment and we're heading for a Mirority Report-esque futurama! :scare:

  10. In additon to the suggestions above, I also recommend taking good care of the glass - as much as the rest of the bodywork. Use a glass polish every now and then and also a good glass clearner (I use autoglym stuff). This helps with water beading and the general performance of the wipers.

    :)

  11. Never really looked into it in detail to be honest; I assumed it would be fairly even over the length of the journey, but perhaps it is something like that.

Or maybe I do just drive faster when heading home on a Friday night! :drive1

  12. Welcome aboard!

Personally I wouldn't bother removing the phone kit unless it's really bugging you - if you do I would hang on to it and make sure it can be reconnected, in case you ever want to sell in stock condition (not that you'll be thinking about that just

yet :surrender: ). I always fill up on V Power and find it a good quality fuel - also the manual recommends high octane for best performance, but normal fuel won't harm it. In terms of cost difference vs mpg gains etc... I don't believe there's is a massive amount in it so I say choose the good stuff!

+1 for pics!! we like pics!!

    :teeth:

  13. I'm a beginner with car mechanics and I've never done spark plugs before on any car, but I managed the Zed no problem using the guide on here. One or two of them are a bit fiddly but you should be okay.

You won't miss that TT for long mate :)
