  1. No stock unleaded is only 95 octane where as Super is 98 octane rating. The higher th octane rating the more aignition timing you can add into the ignition map so making more BHP/torque.

With a lower octane rating fuel we need to adjust the igntion/fuelling within the stock ECU to make the car run safely without any engine damaging detonation.

The car do have knock control at part/full throttle which can control detonation but this will cause the car to run at a lot lower BHP level as the defualt high knock ignition map removes around 10 degree igntion so trying to stop the engine destroying itself.

    Learning has taken place!

Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me

  2. I think there would be a lot of interest at the moment! V-Power has hit over 1.40p/lt where I am.

Can I ask, as I'm a bit uneducated about fuel, what is the main thing that makes high octane fuel, high octane? I'm under the impression that it is essentially the same base fuel as regular unleaded, but with cleaners etc added?

If you were to use normal unleaded fuel - would putting a decent additive in the tank every so often provide a similar benefit?

    Cheers,

  3. What ever you do, don't ever turn ESP switch off on icy roads or snow unless you are the Stig!

I think the point being made was probably for when you are actually driving along the road. I agree it can need to be turned off sometimes for grip getting the car moving though.

For normal driving, whenever the traction control kicks in (I'm pleased to say rarely) - a little voice in my head always says "the machine saved a little bit of your ass there you fool!":lol::lol:

  4. 1. From cold, it was difficult to select 1st and 2nd ratios - I have read about this on here and it seems harmless enough - surely not a reason to turn the car down?

To repeat some advice given to me from ZMANALEX - ensure that genuine Nissan transmission oil is in there, and adding some Molyslip has gained an improvement for many people.

    Cambelt indeed...imbeciles...

    :)

  5. Dirty side skirts! :surrender:

Starts off pretty well - but goes a bit pants where he's just following traffic and braking a lot and then revving it up whilst stationary.

I liked the drive by bits and the slow motion cuts scene - that was pretty effective.

Not bad for an amateur effort!

    :)

  6. User: Andyngina, "cheers ma can definitely confirm its working great on my passat 90 bhp you said prolly 8bhp more id say definitely more it goes as good as my audi a4 19 tdi not to sure what bhp but told it was 110 or 115 only just bought the car to replace the audi and was gna resell it coz power was crap but definitely keeping it now"

    'innit bruv

    :lol::lol::lol:

  7. Sorry to say it mate but - you've got no chance claiming from the council.

You would have to prove that it was that particular pothole that caused the damage, that you were driving at the correct speed, that you did everything you could to avoid it etc...

    Save yourself the endless frustration.

That said, you should still make a complaint and demand that the pothole be repaired - might save somebody else the same fate.

Good luck with the wheels. :)

  8. So could we see a double win here, CRND win = WET win..

IF... IF... IF... SAG pulls their finger out

Sounds very logical mate. I think everyone who has bought into the CRND or other mining companies is waiting with baited breath for further news from SAG.

I can only imagine that there is some very deep (and no doubt heated) discussion going on about who will pay what towards the AMD issue. Whilst SAG has ignored it for far too long, many past and present mining companies are also guilty of contributing to the problem - and no doubt SAG will want to ensure a suitable levy is agreed to reflect this.

Either way - the AMD issue WILL start to be resolved, as it can not be ignored any longer.

With that in mind, I believe investment now or in the near future will yield decent long term gains for those willing to be patient.

  9. Another favourite of mine was being sat at traffic lights when a bright yellow kitted corsa cruised up next to me with a big sticker on the side saying NOT JAP CRAP.

He then started revving his engine.

    Just crap.

  10. At least they have the balls to demonstrate. Unlike us lot who just kick back and do feck all. Good on them i say. :surrender:

In true British style, we should get a petition together post-haste and send it to the king of Saudi Arabia telling him to 'get a grip' as all this silly nonsense is making western driving pleasure too expensive...

  11. Just had a quick look - seems like a good spot there

BlackRock Gold & General Fund is a major shareholder in these guys, and they came in as one of the best performing big funds in 2010 (they returned just over 40% on a 10K investment). So if they are backing them, then surely it's a good sign?

Certainly warrants further research at any rate :)

  12. ...BMW, and all the Kudos that goes with the badge.

    eh?

Anyway, you'll soon get used one of several lines of banter from those who betray their own ignorance of cars...

    1. It's a hairdressers car

    2. Poor man's TT (my personal favourite)

    2. It's a Datsun

Just smile and say "yeah". At the end of the day - he wouldn't bother with the banter if he wasn't impressed by it...

  13. I've been watching this thread for a couple of months and thinking should I? Shouldn't I? And like many others didn't, and wish I had.

So...I just opened a trading Isa. Just waiting for confirmation then I'm gonna be in on Caza!

I've got a wedding to pay for next year to my Fiancee "Cazza!" ( I hoping thats a good sign) ;)

Thanks for the info Captain.

Got wedding to pay for too!! Not sure I'm going to risk it by fumbling around the stock market though - might have to do some good old fashioned saving!

    Damned expensive business these weddings...

Nice bunch of flowers = £30

Nice bunch of wedding flowers = £30,000,000,000,000,000........

    :scare:

  14. For those that missed my tips on XEL (doubled in price) and RRL (tripled in price) have a look at CAZA.

Their drill is at 12,500 on the Arran prospect with the "pay-zones" expected between 14,000 and 16,000 feet. i.e. this week!

    http://spandy.org/

He's estimating future SP from £1.85 to £3.67

    Currently at 55p :teeth:

    Aye aye Captain!

I've had a look into this, and I'm now in on CAZA for 1000 shares - potentially exciting week ahead! :snack:

Since I'm new to all this, I've also decided to buy into a fund so that all my money isn't tied up in shares.

I've chosen Standard Life UK Smaller Companies for the following main reasons:

Fund Manager Harry Nimmo has an excellent track record, and has managed this fund for over 13 years.

It invests in small to medium companies which have excellent growth potential.

Possible yearly returns in the 40-45% region.

"One of the most successful funds was Standard Life's UK Smaller Companies. If you'd invested £10,000 at the start of 2010, you'd have made a £4,719 profit."

    http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/investing/article.html?in_article_id=520723&in_page_id=166

Minimum investment allowed is £500, which is what I've gone for.

That's it for March! No more dealing for me!

    :)

  15. I feel an audition for 'Grumpy Old Men' coming on...and all at the tender age of 30! Ah, the joy of ranting...!

On the plus side, self-service can be useful for what I like to call 'stealth' purchasing, however, avoid the Morrisons ones - notoriously poor software - so just when you thought you'd successfully sneaked your box of 'Just for Men' in there without anyone noticing, the f@cking thing throws a benny and it's game over sunshine...

Sadly these things also carry the same major pitfall as does empowering the public to do their own check-ins at airports - you are ALWAYS waiting for ages behind some d!ckhead who hasn't got a clue what they're doing and who has clearly ventured into a realm far beyond their capabilities.

    And another thing...

Now, I have nothing against shop assistants whatsoever, did the job myself for a bit whilst at uni - in fact, I have nothing against anybody who works; they do a job, and every job needs doing by somebody and I actually quite like it when people take the time to be chatty or friendly whilst understanding in equal measure the one who rather wouldn't.

BUT, why oh why am I to be asked if I need help with my packing?

What a stupid question: Do I need help putting things into a bag?

Well I didn't need help walking around the shop and putting them into my basket! Grrr....

Don't even get me started on the aisle hoggers...:angry:

  16. Best way is to remove the wheel, peel back the arch liner and them remove the 5" grey disc from the back to the headlight to allow access to the bulb. :)

    +1

    Nissan (sigh) says:

    Remove headlamp washer nozzles

    Remove front bumper

    Remove headlamp unit

    (Finally) replace bulb

    Reassemble all above.

Naturally, any such work should be carried out by a qualified mechanic...

So a good hours work there... £50-£60 labour down the local Nissan stealers? Way to go guys...

  17. i declared my exhaust and panel filter was only about 20 quid more , as a matter of interest

do you have to declare a throttle controller ?

It doesnt give you any more bhp but wondering if they would not pay out if they found out you have one fitted ?

Although it doesn't increase the BHP - it could still be seen as a performance enhancing mod - so I'd say declare it - probably won't cost you much more, if anything.

  18. It's the counterweight that helps your boot to close, against the force of the struts.

You can take it out if you want to save (a bit of) weight, but then you will have to push harder to close your boot, as the struts will try to keep it open.

    :)
