  1. The tool that rtbuscuit linked to will remove that no problem. When I spoke to the chaps who made them, they said the aa had placed an order for a few hundred, so there may be a friendly aa chap that can help? The rac only have the reverse threaded sockets as far as I know. Honestly, try and get your hands on one of the tools biscuit posted up.
  2. You wouldn't be able to deport them. They are British. This is the country they were born in The only reason they are chanting is that the British soldiers fighting in places like Afghanistan and Iraq are fighting against predominantly/solely Muslim soldiers. They are Muslims and hence their chants against the British soldiers. They do realise that there are Muslim British soldiers too don't they? Also where did they stand on the whole Iran/Iraq war when it was mostly Muslim vs Muslim? No we can't tar all Muslims with the same brush, they are a minority. But I'm afraid to say the Muslim community need to do more to out this element themselves. There will be Muslims out there that will recognise those who have taken part in this dispicable demonstration, but when it comes to the police enquiry, how much help will the police get from that community? I'd wager that they will get three tenths of chuff all help or information. Many Muslim communities appear quick to distance themselves from these extremist loonies, but considerably lacking when it comes to doing anything about it. To demonstrate how pathetically pc and over sensitive to race we are in the uk compared to others, one of the staff at the hotel here in Mexico was carrying a big sign round the other day advertising a guests vs staff beach volleyball game. It said "brownies vs whities" with small words next to the brownies and whities saying (mexicans) and (you). I had a great laugh with the guy carrying it around as I get fairly tanned on holiday with just a little sun, joking about which team I should be on. We decided that given we couldn't make up our mind if I was a whitie or a brownie, and I'm not overly athletic, I could be the water boy. There was no racism, no malice or anything. It was funny for both of us. The only sad part was wondering just how that same fun experience would never be allowed to happen at home.
  3. Yep, here is how some "British" Muslims observed the minutes silence. I've had one too many beers to post how I feel about this having two grandfathers who fought in the war. At least the one saving grace of watching the only one left alive live out his days in a home not even remembering his sons (my father) name, is that he won't be able to understand these scenes on the tv and see the respect shown for the "free" society he fought for. If Hitler had won these idiots would most probably not have been born, as after the poor Jewish nation, the Muslims would have been next off for a "shower". I'll stop now as I'm on danger of going off on a propper rant. Save to say I find it pathetic that these peole were not arrested for inciting racial hatred immediately. If I burnt a Koran and shouted death to Muslim troops, do you think I'd be protected by a ring of police or taken away in a van?...
  4. this + 1000000 I went to visit the people that make this tool and I cannot believe they are not millionaires. The ease at which they can remove any locking nut is unbelieveable. I'm amazed that not every garage in the land hasn't bought one. No damage to the wheel what so ever. If the only answers you get from garages etc is that they will need to chissel it off, walk away and phone this company.
  5. Incredibly useful post, one worthy of a sticky somewhere I think. I'd be tempted to take it to court if it happened to me, ensuring that the driver trying the scam on knows I will be getting his home address as part of going to court, and that I have friends with access to jcb's and concrete mixers and various building sites with big holes needing filling lol.
  6. I think that's because the console market is so huge. A console costs what £200. Almost within reach of every household for a games machine. The games are t cheap, but for the next 5 or so years they won't have to be constantly upgrading the hardware to play the latest games. A games rig pc may start at say £800 minimum for a decent spec. Then k. Top of the games, you'll be chasing the latest graphics cards etc to play the games, if not motherboards, processors and memory too. The finacialy sensible thing for games shops to do is follow the mass market, which is the much cheaper consoles..
  7. Example 1. People are put into hotels while houses are repaired or rebuilt. They are not rented houses down the street fully furnished at rates charged back to the insurer above what would normally be charged. Example 2. You would not be given any replacement ring while yours is being repaired, in fact if it can't be repaired, it would be the same as a write off, you would just be paid the market value for it and it'd up to you to buy a replacement. I have some very expensive original paintings in my house, if they were destroyed, what would they do, borrow some more from a gallery and commission the artist to paint replacements? Or just pay me what they are worth, and I get to choose what to buy as replacements. Your third point of two value crimes receiving the same punishment does not fit the case either, as the person/s footing the bill are not the other banks customers. You think it's acceptable that just two months hire charges (£40k) for keeping up appearances ammount to almost half the value of the car that's being substituted (£80k)? As I've said, if you think the above is fine then that's your opinion and you are entitled to it, but in my view you can't then moan about rising insurance costs while advocating the above as acceptable practice. If it is acceptable, then show me one example of where both parties involved have been underwritten by the same insurer and they have agreed to such ludicrous hire car costs. If it's your daily drive and you need an exact same spec car to satisfy work or home commitments then fine, but if it's just to satisfy your ego and image then it's unwarranted imho. Perhaps we can split this discussion off from the Z4 review thread (can another mod do it as I'm on iPhone). ?
  8. I can see this theme is going to run isn't it. In fact it looks like it's in the 5.50 at kempton...
  9. So as everyone else does it, then you may as well do it yourself eh? Sod the fact it's just lumped £40k onto other peoples premiums so you can keep up appearances. I'm sticking to my principals. It may not change the industry, but at least I'll know I'm not contributing to the problem. Do you think if the person that ran into you had been insured by the same underwriter that you would have been provided with that same £40k hire car for two months? I highly doubt it. And I also highly doubt you would have got anywhere in asking them to provide one too. These companies will be giving kick backs to the insurers from the money they make on the hire costs passed to the other party. If an insurer isn't willing to pay the same hire car costs if both parties are insured by them, then they should be barred from passing on such costs when the at fault driver is not underwritten by them. The wording on most policies is that you will not be "inconvenienced" excessively. The only thing that would suffer from being without your supercar for a couple of months is your ego IMHO, I'm not going to stitch up another insurer for ridiculous costs just so I can swan round in another supercar for a couple of months. What's the point?
  10. No, I paid what I did to ensure the highest standard of repair possible. If the car is not damaged to the extent that it requires writing off into a cat d or c, then there is no reason to declare slight cosmetic damage and repair either. putting me in another 430 or even 458 for a couple of months is not going to change what's happened to my car or "reimburse me" for any financial loss for having an accident damaged car. All it's going to do is stiff even more innocent drivers with hikes in their premiums because I wanted a like for like. PS, Did you declare the damage to yours when you sold it ? Besides, the discussion is about the acceptance of a hire car charged back to the other drivers insurance company at exhorbitant rates. Earlier you stated that your hire bill was in the region of £40k. Do you think it's right that the other insurance company foot the bill for such a joke cost? that's a £40k rise in premiums for that companys customers regardless of whether they had any accidents or not. Given the rate at which premiums are rising I don't think it will be too long before practices such as this are stamped out tbh. It's just adding hundreds of thousands, if not millions of pounds to driver premiums for no reason. The charges are also a joke. Compare the running costs and depreciation of a car, plus the corporation tax, insurances etc and factor in the vat you can reclaim if buying a car to use in this manner and these hire car companies are taking the pish with the rates they are charging insurance companies.
  11. considering that to insure my cars I'm paying in excess of £3k a year plus whatever the tracker costs are, I'm not going to contribute to these daft insurance costs by stitching another insurance company up for maybe £1,000 a day hire costs. Does my 430 cost me £1,000 a day to own? Does it chuff. So why should I expect another company to pay that? It's a joke which contributes highly to the ridiculous rises in insurance. My only stipulation I have which is written in my insurance docs is that should the 430 be damaged, the repairs can only be carried by a bodyshop authorised by maranello, and and repairs are signed off by a Ferrari mechanic that will state that the car is no worse for it's accident than an untouched vehicle. To me the cost I pay on insurance to have this particular cover is enough for me. What goes around comes around. Let's say some sod stitches up my insurance company for £60k worth of hire charges, I can just guess what's going to happen to my premium even if I don't claim. So in short, no I wouldn't expect a like for like courtesy car. In fact I wouldn't want one at all, it's not as if I haven't got another to run about in.
  12. ah yes. probably one too many of those other beers before posting.
  13. These "accident management" companies that charge back extortionate hire rates to the faulty drivers company really **** me off. It's one of the reasons that insurance premiums are through the roof. The attitude of "why shouldn't I have like for like" is very blinkered too, as the premiums we pay will have to cover these extortionate costs brought against our chosen insurance company by others. I'd like to see if they would still go down this palming off to an accident management and huge rental costs if both parties were covered by the same insurer. Anyone who accepts one of these ridiculous like for like excessive rental charge courtesy cars immediatley forfeits their right to complain about high insurance costs IMHO. /rant
  14. I got mine from fancyplates.com I put the web address in as bottom line text and they made this! the pic doesn't show it well but the Z is actually metalic silver and just like the real Z logo. I was expecting just plain text, but this turned up without asking. Don't know if that would happen again though.
  15. No more than the others who are running old engines already. There's no telling how well any of those will stand up to the heat. Could be a spectacular final race. Oh and +1 on the ABA
  16. Here follows a lesson in how to sound like a pompus nob: I'm currently away, not returning until several days after release date. So one of my staff is fetching it tomorrow and leaving it on my desk ready for when I get back Actually we both preordered it together, he's just collecting as I'm away, so I'll have some catching up to do!
  17. Agree with the above. Mine used to twitch to one side as one shock was leaking. Best to make sure you get even response from both sides and replace the pair of shocks together.
  18. Seriously looking forward to playing this. I'm one of the sad ones who's ordered the edition with the remote control car with mounted camera. Trying to think of uses for it. So far I've cone up with driving it to the kitchen to see if the cats need feeding, or down the garden to see if the greenhouse needs watering.
  19. Thanks hugh, looks like hamilton is out of it too to be honest. It's alonsos to lose.
  20. Alonso is 11 ahead according to f1.com, I'm away at present so don't know if that's the most up to date table taking today's race into account.
  21. Oh of course, but even with that order alonso would still win, you'd need alonso in fourth. If it were vettel, webber, Hamilton, alonso on the last lap and Red Bull ordered vettel to pull back then yes I'd also bet they would get docked points and alonso passed the win, they certainly wouldn't get let off with a poxy $100k fine or about 4 sets of tyres. Yet if alonso wins by 7 points or less, nothing will be said.
  22. Without that team order farce from Ferrari, webber would only trail alonso by four points. As it is he now needs to be 11 points clear. Webber 1st and alonso 4th in order to get the drivers championship. Even if vettel wins, he needs a finish outside the top 10 or a dnf from alonso. I think Red Bull need to order vettel to target the sidepod of alonso! If alonso wins, it better be by more than the 7 gifted points from hockenheim
  23. Most of the people that complain about 5 star resorts on trip advisor are yanks that are so far up their own arse it's untrue. They are starting to annoy me now with their total lack of manners. When they order stuff they use phrases like: "I need a beer and two diet cokes", or "can I get a beer and a coke" or "I'll have the chicken with potatoes" no "please could I have" or "I would like the xxxxx please" how very ironic that the most materialistic and money obsessed nation on earth has not learnt that manners cost nothing yet get you lots. I'm polite to the waiters/staff take a bit of time to try and use at least some of their language and you'll be amazed how they manage to spot your face at a crowded bar it pisses the yanks right off, in sure they think I'm paying the bar tenders James, there is a trip in the Dominican where you can climb a series of small waterfalls and swim the channels in the rock that they have formed, it's a great experience !
