RobPhoboS Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Is there any way, at all, to get new members to use the search function prior to posting ? Like some kind of message to them if they have less than 50 posts for example. Of course not everyone is guilty of asking the same old pap but it's something I notice that happens a lot. (the irony is, I'm fairly certain this has been posted 1000x as well ) Quote
brillomaster Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 not as often as you might think - I did bring up something similar two years ago, quite a few interesting responses, have a read: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/55822-5-post-minimum-for-new-threads/ 1 Quote
Grundy Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I think the issue is, the search field isn't the easiest of things to use. If people knew how to use google properly they'd find the answer quickly - I.e. If you want to know about Plenum Spacers - Google the words '350z-uk Plenum Spacer' You will get so many pages to different threads. The majority will use the search field, with 'Plenum Spacer' Look and think... And then post. Quote
AliveBoy Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I do find the search function quite laborious sometimes. When I'm looking for an old thread, say a couple of months, it can take some proper digging to find the correct one. I can't imagine what it's like finding one when you don't know what to search for. Lexx Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Because we archive threads to keep the forum running fast, the search function has limited use. Search like this. 1. Go into Google. 2. Type - site:350z-uk.com [whatever your searching for here] This will only search our forum and will include archived topics. 3 Quote
M13KYF Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 the database is hhhhuuuuggggeeeeee. So cant help it being a bit laborius. Part of the problem of having a successful forum Quote
WhackyWill Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 AS Lexx said use the Google option, far easier to find threads on here. Quote

RobPhoboS Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Search like this. 1. Go into Google. 2. Type - site:350z-uk.com [whatever your searching for here] This will only search our forum and will include archived topics. I'm just gonna quote this as I'm seeing loads of new members not even bothering, fooking annoying ! Quote
