invame Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Hi all, Any ideas what the circled part is and what it does? The mechanic at my last MOT said that he thought it was part of the traction control system but it would be nice to confirm it. Thanks in advance. Quote
glrnet Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Correct Mr Roper @invame, I should think about another MOT place if I were you. 1 Quote
ZMANALEX Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Adam, As MrRoper has said, it is indeed the headlamp self leveling unit. Alex. Quote
invame Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Ah, right. Thanks for the info. Should it have failed it's MOT then? Do you think I could glue it back together with some Q-bond or something as it looks like quite a clean break? Quote
spursmaddave Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Time to find a new mechanic & MOT centre I think Quote
invame Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 I think I'm going to try and glue it with some araldite first. It looks like I might have to slacken the nut so I can turn it slightly so the broken faces line up though. If this works does anyone know of any procedures I may have to go through to ensure my headlights aren't pointing at the moon or anything silly? Quote
WhackyWill Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Your mechanic obviously does not know how traction control works...that's frightening and he's an MOT tester as well..??? Quote
SkylineV35 Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Oh i hate those kind of mechanics...anything they dont they, they will reply " yup looks like the Flux Capacitors gone" or the usual 'Doesnt sound healthy pop the bonnet...ahhh thats the Flux Capacitor on its way out, thats going to be quite costly im afraid"(then puts on the im sorry for your loss grieving face) 1 Quote

PM ZMANALEX and get a replacement.... :pmzmanalex: Quote
invame Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 If I get a replacement do you know if there's some kind of learning procedure that has to be done that I should be aware of or will it sort itself out automagically? Quote
ZMANALEX Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 There is no reset required for replacement of the self leveling device. I have these in stock (preowned) and good to go same/next day if required. Just drop me a PM if you require one. Alex. Quote
invame Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 To be honest I haven't really looked at how to remove the part as yet. Do I try and remove the sensor if that's possible or is it a case of removing the brackets so I'm left with something like this: Depending on which do you provide just the sensor Zmanalex and it's a case of me reusing the existing brackets or will it come with the brackets as well? Thanks. Quote
ZMANALEX Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 It comes as one piece with all the brackets Adam, Alex. Quote
