Advice needed please...

Right guys, I went to look at a car local to me on Sunday, the cars from a guy/company called Midwest performance, I've read the thread on here but the bloke seemed pretty fair to me.

Here's the autotrader link:

http://autotrader.mobi/used-cars/advert/201301014759961?PHPSESSID=2j2ahspueceqijsc8oa80e5go2

Now does the price seem ok? There were a couple of things on the car that I noticed, a dent on the bonnet, probably the size of a 50p but fairly deep but thats not really a problem. The alloys had some curbing but nothing a refurb couldn't fix. But the airbag light was flashing consistently on the test drive, is this a big problem or just a diagnostics reset or worse? The exhaust was also knocking slightly at the rear but I'd imagine that was just a bracket, as it stopped when I put my foot on it!

Now apart from those bad points it did have brand new discs and pads all round, a new clutch, new banana bars, just been through a service and mot until October plus a stainless exhaust system.

I'm just after some advice and knowledge please, as I don't know a lot about the cars....yet!

Thanks a lot, Joe.

Giving your assessment of the car I would say the price was a bit high. I can't claim to be an expert but the following would worry me.

1. A new clutch, and disc,s with less than 42K on the clock.....was the flywheel also changed? could it have been thrashed?

2. Service history.....main dealer ?

3. Knocking exhaust and dent....has it been looked after and why hasn't a guy who specialises on Z's fixed the exhaust before selling?

4. Air bag light flashing....could be nothing but could be expensive...if nothing why didn't he bother fixing it himself before selling it on?

5. Don't know what banana bars are?

Just my own suspicious opinion but I would be on guard.

Zorst prob just fitted poorly. Bracket adjustment

Airbag. 98% nothing to worry about. Give the passenger connector a wiggle and perform the reset with the car key (takes less than a minute).

Clutch, discs and pads are prob the thickend of £1200 depending on brand but don't let that and a couple of sparkly bits make you pay over the odds. That's a sub 8k car for definite.......if it was absolutely immaculate it would struggle to fetch 8. Sounds like this one needs a little tlc to be that standard.

Thanks for the replies guys!

IMC. - That's interesting about the price, out of interest were the new parts fitted when you looked at it?

Thanks for the rest of advice, definitely some things worth thinking about!

Disc's pad's and clutch were already done by previous owner it was just the banana bar that needed doing.

The bad points could ending up costing you quite a bit of money, but things like the clutch is a good items just to have been replaced, but why has it been replaced at 42k?!?!

When you look at parkers guide private good prices for an 05 range from like 5k to 8k which is quite a wide specrum.

So his price to me says its minted and needs nothing....im sure you could pick up a better deal if you waited and search around, or was willing to travel.

I agree, somewhere in the region of £7.5k as it stands or £7.7k if he sorts the problems out.
