350GP Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I know, I know, you dont buy a 350z to put a roof rack on it, that's what estates are for....but regardless, i dont plan on getting rid of my 350 any time soon. Just wondering if anyone had ever found/made a roof rack for a 350z, or if anyone has ever fit a mountain bike inside their car? Thanks Quote

SteveW Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I managed to get a mountain bike inside mine. Had to take the wheels off it was a big squeeze! Quote
AK350Z Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 A small hardtail frame will fit in the back with wheels and pedals off. Larger hardtails will need the forks dropped out, and a full suss would probably be too long, but I havent tried it. Quote
rabbitstew Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I managed to get a mountain bike inside mine. Had to take the wheels off it was a big squeeze! I recall someone posting a picture once of their mountain bike inside their zed, so it might be worth having a bit of a search! Quote

SX Dave Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 iv tried looking into this but not got very far, The boofsquire looks good but expensive and importing.hassles there must be a easier solution of having something local that fits... Quote
was8v Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) Could get a 1.25" hitch from rockauto.com (Curt 11493 think it was £130 delivered inc all taxes) and fit a rack Looks like this: Edited June 13, 2013 by was8v Quote
Fodder Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) slightly OT but are they slicks and it also seems to have lost an exhaust pipe on that "slimer" zed But that last option sounds interesting as I've just ordered a bike and dont want to be limited to the other halfs clio.... 350GP Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Thanks for the responses everyone, I did try the search function but no joy... Im sure i saw something a while back about some company in USA who developed a rack which attaches to your boot/tailgage... not sure if they're still in production though, or if they even ship to UK. Quote
350GP Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 wait, that would be the boofsquire.... I should really learn to click links before i type... Looks like they're sold out since last year though according to their website Quote
SX Dave Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 what about this? http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/56306-the-last-word-re-bike-racks/page__hl__%2Bbike+%2Brack although im not sure how well it would fit onto a JDM bumper with the smaller recess. Quote
msisleman Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) Saris Bones works well. Available all over the UK. Two feet on the boot and two on the number plate recess. I'm going to test it out with two DH bikes on there in a few weeks time! EDIT: just realised that the post above shows what I've just suggested. Only changes I'd recommend to the setup above is to angle the bike holding legs up and over the car a touch more, in order to spread more of the load onto the boot lid rather then the bumper, and also to attach the 5th and 6th straps to the towing eye rather than the bottom of the boot lid. Works a treat! Edited November 19, 2012 by msisleman Quote
SX Dave Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 For any one that's interested the Bones 2 at Evans cycles is £112 and they are doing a 15% discount if you spend £75+. Discount code 15CPA75 Think im going to take the plunge and go for one. Ill update how i get on. Quote
14N Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 I've used the Halfords hi-level universal carrier for my hardtail. Takes a bit of jiggling to get the angles right, but works fine for me. Sits in the numberplate recess and on the top of the boot lid (just make sure your boot is clean first to avoid scratching). Can try take some pics this weekend if you want? Quote
