Mikesding Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Hi guys - just wondered how much heat is normal from the engine? Noticed the other day I could feel the heat from the engine when standing near it quite noticeably; the coolant temp inside is fine and oil is fine so wondered if this was normal for a bigger engine? Cheers! Quote
Mikesding Posted July 4, 2012 Author Posted July 4, 2012 Good I'm used to small 4 cylinders so thought i'd best check Quote

sparky370z Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Yeah, you could cook up a family of badgers in there with the heat! It does get very hot Quote
un1eash Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Try stepping out the car with shorts on, you can feel the heat burning the back of your legs. Quote
Neilp Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Feel the tunnel where the gearbox is at the side of your left foot inside the cabin all my chocolate melted on a drive out in the passenger footwell. I have decats though so its even warmer Quote

Bad lubrication? Quote
Martin S Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 It's a large, fairly powerful engine with little venting for hot air. The more power an engine produces, the more heat it will produce, it's why supercars are generally covered in vents and ducts. I'm sure Nissan will have adressed the heat issue plenty enough for a standard car, at least, so I wouldn't worry about it. A couple of cars ago I had an E30 3-series BMW with a turbocharged BMW 535i engine, it melted the abs sensor wire on the inner wing! Not enough cooling / venting / shielding! Quote
