Window seal problem - return to dealer

I've had problems with water coming through the windows of my roadster and I now think that the cockpit is noisier than when I first got my car. Colin from CAT confirmed for me that the wind noise was greater than he would expect so I have booked it in at the Nissan dealer from whom I bought it. It's still in warranty but I am worried that they will try to fob me off because a) it's a roadster and B) I'm only a stupid woman and what would I know about anything anyway. I know I am right though, just as I was when I told them that the wheel alignment was out. They had to accept that one because I went and looked at the calibrations myself when the car was on the ramp but 'wind noise' is obviously a bit more subjective.

Any tips for dealing with the garage if they aren't prepared to help? I am going to mention that Colin gave me independent advice and that is an engineer who was instrumental in advising Nissan on what changes were needed to bring the car to the European market and hope that this will sway them if they are messing me about. Hopefully, I'm worrying about nothing but I do feel slightly anxious that I won't get the result that I'm after.

Dont forget Annie, the roof in a roaster 350z is considered as trim in Nissans eyes, you may have a battle on your hands. These seals are not cheap.

Have you tried some silicone lube on the seals, it helps to plump up the seals.

Will370 did get his replaced by Nissan IIRC

Also bear in mind it may not actually be the seals. My coupe currently has a leaking/whistling driver's window which is actually down to a knackered hinge letting the door sit too low. It's evident by the fact that the door catches slightly on the latch when closing, and you can actually see the play in the hinge if you get someone else to lift the door whilst looking at the hinge. Worth checking before battling with Nissan for the wrong thing, the fact that it's a soft-top could be a red herring.

Annie you have a pm

My seals were replaced by nissan as a goodwill gesture as it didnt fall within the warranty.

Also a good point to note. There are two wires that go along the roofline above the windows, they are there to keep the roof tight against the window seals. Oneof mine above the passenger door snapped meaning it was not a taught and this significantly increased the level of wind noise. I could feel the wire out ofplace. Check to see if you have thisproble. I was told by a specialist this could not be repaired and it would mean a new roof :(.

Good luck and hope the dealer is able to fix the problem.

A whole new roof from nissan will set you back a whopping 25k :scare:

You will need to find a soft top roof trimmer, and dont forget the rear glass is part of the roof

Have a look in the scrap dealers, they may have pne kicking about, or :pmzmanalex: for the seals.

seriously hope you dont have to replace the top.... :surrender:

Wow  Fingers crossed that the problem can be fixed without resorting to a whole new roof. The eBay one was a lot more reasonably priced though. I don't think the problem lies with the windows dropping as they look ok but these are all possibilities to bear in mind. I used to be quite good at diagnosing problems (with the aid of the internet) on my elderly P38 but don't feel half so confident with my Zed for some reason

You'd have been well practised with a P38 though! Blooming things are always breaking!:lol::lol:

How right you are Stew. That's why I got rid of the thing , well that and the fact that it was so incredibly boring to drive that I sometimes felt like taking a book along with me to read at the same time

They are all the same. My dad had an L322 and it wasn't the most reliable. Unacceptable on a car that's new. So it had to go.

I quite liked pimping about in it though I must say!
