John tarantula Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Hope this hasn't been asked before.... swapping to new discs and pads tommorow and living in London means I won't get to bed them in for a couple of days (trip to bournemouth planned). In the mean time, before they're bedded in via the procedure any tips? ie drive slow, pulse brakes, avoid sharp stops or just as normal until i get the change to do it properly? thanks, Michael Quote

I have an imprint of my (then) Ferodo DC2500 pads on my front DBA 5000 rotors How do I remove this imprint and will it effect my braking performance/life expectancy of the rotors. When you swop from one brand of pad from another then you MUST thouroughly remove all previous pad deposits before you fit the new pads. You can not bed in the replacement pads until this has been done. The DS2500 will not squeal with the DBA 5000 rotors if fitted properly. To remove an imprint you will have to clean the rotor/rotors with fine sanding paper or temporarily fit a set of "special" pads for around 20 minutes driving/braking. Then refit the pads and bed in again. Job Done Quote
John tarantula Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 ...well just been out on a quiet industrial road and while I couldn't get to slam the brakes from 60 did it a lot from 40/50 in two cycles with 15 mins A road driving with no brakes inbetween. Hope I got enough heat into them! certainly smelt warm though no smoke quite fun as well on an empty road. Anything else to look out for now or good to go? Quote
Dynamic Turtle Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 These new pads are really starting to get on my nerves now. I've worn them for 300 miles now. Paid a guy at the local garage £40 to slip them this morning (noob with no expertise or tools, so I can't do it myself) and after an 80 mile round trip, they're squeeling again. badly. Live in london too, so as the OP said, it's been very difficult to find a quiet spot to run them in properly. Unless I get up at 5am to do it, which isn't much fun. Any options? Quote

They're 2 mins away so will go there next week for another look. Quote

Edit - I mean that he didn't provide me with the docs supporting the replacement pads, tyres and clutch. He's a performance car specialist but has probably never worked on a Z before. Might have to give him a call once I've been through another attempt at bedding-in (again), if I'm still not making any progress. Quote
Dynamic Turtle Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 OK whilst I still haven't run though a proper bedding in procedure yet (next weekend hopefully - on a road trip at the moment), i've definitely noticed the brakes behaving differently this weekend. The squeeling is happening at 20mph braking, rather than 5-10mph. And once warmed-up, the pads can definitely be heard rubbing against the discs at low (10mph) speed. Although tbh it sounds more like metal on metal. perhaps the shims rubbing against the discs? Looks like these might need more attention than a bit of copperslip? Quote

Is in north london though off tyhe A406. might be worth you looking around charlton way where it's industrial to see what's possible? Quote
