IPDM unit blown - advice appreciated

Hi all,

I own a 350z convertible and took it into an auto-electricians in Leeds before Christmas as the reverse lights were not working (they haven't for a year - switch in the gearbox gone) and the engine management light had been on for a few days. They said they would plug their unit in to see what the problem was.

They called me to tell me the car wouldn't start anymore, like the immobilser had kicked in. They tried the spare key and I think thought that the codes had gone (please forgive me if I'm getting the tech talk a little wrong...I'm a typical girl!) - so they said it had to be taken to Nissan.

Nissan have now informed me that the car has multiple faults and the IPDM unit has blown (£868 to fix)...and other things may have gone, but they need to replace the IPDM unit first. I asked if they could tell how the IPDM unit had blown - e.g. was it the original garage's kit that did it? They couldn't say.

I'm guessing that as it's with Nissan and not drive-able, it's best to get them to do the work....but I'm wondering whether I should be pushing to get the original garage to pay some or all of the cost...if it was their fault?

Advice is much appreciated....I'm always worried as a girl that I'm being messed around

Where about you from ?? (So people can recommend a garage)

I personally wouldnt let Nissan touch it either but that's only my opinion because I had a bad experience with them .

+1 - best you tell us your general location so we can point you in the right direction for a specialist ;)

Unless it is something simple, then unfortunately a Nissan consult 2/3 diagnostic tool will be required to get an accurate diagnoses., however the tool is only as good as the guy on the job.

Fortunately I do have a selection of preowned Roadster roof parts in stock, however I would require your VIN to verify that they were compatible with your vehicle. I have the following in stock. All are preowned. The list is not exhaustive.

Roadster ECU

Roadster BCM

Roadster IPDM

Roadster Roof ECU

Roadster fuse boxes.

Unfortunately I can not take returns on any of these parts due to the nature of the components, so it is imperative that the diagnoses is correct.

Let me know if I can help you further.

Alex. :)

Hi guys - thank you for your replies!

I am indeed in Leeds. The original auto-electricians have just called me to tell me that they are putting in a claim to their insurers to fix the car....basically meaning they are admitting liability. Fingers crossed, they will pay Nissan to sort it... I'll let you know how I get on though....wish me luck!

p.s. Great to see so many 350z enthusiasts on here
