Help!!! loud warning noise from inside the car

Hi all

first post for me and typically it has to be about a problem! Just installed new speakers and wire into the doors to replace the crappy bose system. The passenger side was ok but the drivers side gave me a hell of a job as i had problems locating the internal loom clip back into place. But after much scrabbling about in the drivers footwell andremoving lots of skin off my hands it was finally done and the door loom clip went back into place, job done - or so i thought...

I put the key in the barrel to check the electric windows but as soon as the key touched the barrel there was a loud waring noise eminating from what seemed to be the rear view mirrow. The noise stayed on even though the car would start. On closing the door the noise stops but with the key in the barrel, as soon as you open the door the noise starts again, even with the engine running. This noise was not there before!

Also, the passenger door wont now unlock with the key fob (2 presses) i can only unlick it using the button on the drivers arm rest, though it locks when i use the fob to lock the car???

And worst of all - i cant open the boot now. it wont unlock even with both doors open, car on, car off, anything. i know how to unlock it with the emergency release but thats a temporary fix.

Ive taken the wire out of the loom clip just in case i had knocked a pin out or something but it hasnt made any difference. The windows work, as do the other door panel controls its just the central locking which now seems a bit broke.

does anyone know what might have happened or what the warning noise is trying to tell me? im more then a bit worried that ive buggered my perfectly fine Z up by trying to 'improve it' :scare::scare::scare:

cheers for your help guys.

hi all

checked the fuses, they all seem ok. and ive also noticed that the wing mirrors will fold in both sides but i cant adjust the passenger side one, the drivers one is fine though.

all i can think of now is that ive damaged the pins in the connector block or damaged the wiring when i threaded the speaker wire through the rubber joining piece.

both options are not good as my hand is too big to get a grip on the inner (drivers footwell) clip holder - took me nearly 90 minutes to locate it, and the door loom is densly packed with wires. Electrics are not my strongpoint!

looks like i will have to take it all apart again tomorrow to check it - the girlfriend is going to kill me, i already delayed taking her out today so i could do the car......

does anyone know what the noise means tho? is it related to the problems im having or should i be really worried???

Sounds like the door light switch's ??? Noise when you open door... no noise when you close door. Think you might have some wires crossed somewhere mate.

Thats my take on it anyway.. sorry if is of no help.... is the loom plug inserted in the correct position? :teeth:

Do you have telephone system in ur car, dont know if there is any speaker in the light cluster by the rear view mirror?

heh heh, nothing quite describes that sinking feeling when an apparently straightforward job turns into a complete disaster :headhurt:

anyway, i have now discovered that the Z gives a loud piercing warning noise from the rear view mirror ( yep, i have the blue tooth kit) when you bugger up the circuits on the electric mirrors, boot release, passenger door lock and passenger window.

the problem turned out to be 5 bent , and i mean flattened, pins in the connector block which mounts into the car shell. after 3 hours of pin straightening, block locating, more pin straightening, more locating, etc etc everything finally went in place, i put the key in and NO WARNING NOISE :yahoo:

i reckon that when i originally mated the multiplug, if your not careful, when you reconnect the plastic surround to the door mounted plug it can look ok ( clips round) but you have to slightly push on the white block until you hear it click. i didnt first time and had problems mating the two up. thats when i reckon i bent the pins.

also, the grey retainig clip can be a right pain in the a@se, and will lock hard in place so you cant 'unlock' it.I suggest that anyone doing this job again use lots of WD on the grey clip so to make it easy to move up into position - as Icarus says in his guide, you can only locate it back into the socket with the clip down.

The upshot of all this is my gf has now banned me from any more 'car work' and wants me to call in a professional to install my new Kenwood 7240BT stereo. After spending all this time oer the bank hol weekend buggering around - she might be right!!

the silly thing is ive only done this about 20 times before - i wasnt expecting any difficulty- thought i would just wire and install the drivers side door then pop out for lunch. so much for best laid plans! And yes after the way the weekend has gone, i have a bit of making upto do on the gf front! And i might just keep stum with her about the other mod plans i have for the Z as well........ ;)
