I popped into a local garage to get a quote for filling in the chips and debadging the front & respraying my front bumper all in for a total of £120....... (a good friend of mine)

He asked me the colour of the bumper so i stated it was Kuro Black.

So he says its non metallic paint so being non metallic 'black is black' whatever the car and colour.

Is this right?

(i dont want to get it resprayed and it come out looking different.

Cheers guys.

Hi Mate

Id not be so sure as there are paint flips through certain paint. I had a fto once and it was black but had green flips through it. Id get the paint code then it would be mixed exactly,

Black is not just black!

Nerd part inc: Although Black (and white for that matter) don't qualify as colours, but shades, there are different versions. For Black it can appear blacker depending on the light absorbing properties of the paint. The more light it absorbs, the blacker it will apear.

Sorry for the waffle, the long and short of it is get a paint match and check ur mates a pro not a GCSE student with a can of spraypaint! :surrender:

Is the paint code not on the VIN plate in the engine bay?

KH3 G. is what it says on the plate.

Yep, tell him you want Kuro Black, KH3.

Not just any black will be a match, black can be made of loads of combinations of colours.

Thanks for all your replys guys, i was a little off when he said black is just black.

As ofcorse they wont call it KURO black if it wasnt different to standard black.

He has quite a good name after himself but mainly specialise in SMART repairs

So i will ask him about this first.

Off putting

I work at a accident repair centre and we have three colour scheme for different manufactures recomendations. Even with the colour code there could be 10 veriants (slight shade differences) of that colour. To do the job right he should get the colour chips from his paint scheme, clean a flat section of your paint work on the vehilce and choose the closest veriant if theres more than one.

This is more important when the panels meet each other i.e bumper sides and wings. If the colour isnt correct it will look black and white in the sun shine. You do some times get slight shade difference between plastic and metals depending on colour. Just check your rear bumper to quarter panels and see if there fine.

Just ask to see his colour chips to make sure the veriant is correct.

Smart normally supply there panels in colour, thats maybe why people think he's good lol :bangin:
