Not so much to Envy after all.

I have thought long and hard about whether to post this review or not. In the end I hope that maybe it will provoke a change in attitude or at the very least prevent someone from making a similar mistake.

After reading so many posts about Envy Performance on this forum, I thought I would spend some of my hard earned cash and give the Z a new look and sound.

I wanted some nice new 19†wheels and a new exhaust to replace my aging rusting standard system.

I called up Envy and after a little discussion decided on a Milltek exhaust and some nice new BERK High Flow Cats. Some new Anti Roll Bars, and a set of Finichi Firenze 19â€s. Along with a full service, some z badges and PIAA windscreen wipers.

I also decided that since it was July I’d drive back with the new wheels and get the Rays refurbished (bubbling paintwork and some bad parking by a previous owner) and sent back for the winter season.

All of this was discussed approx 2 weeks before I arrived and I even checked to see if they had the parts in stock which they didn’t for the Cats and so they would have to be ordered.

Approx two weeks later I made the journey from the Highlands of Scotland all the way down to Newcastle and even arranged to leave the car with Envy for two weeks to give them plenty of time to work on the car.

To their credit (and I am all for credit, where credit is due), they were very friendly and even offered to take me to the airport so I could catch a flight to NI for my summer break. Cool. Good Start.

The first problem came when I found out that the CATS had not been ordered even though they knew I was coming. Then I found that the Miltek exhaust they had was not complete and therefore could not be fitted. This meant I had to opt for the slightly lesser (but quite good sounding) Japspec 2 exhaust.

Leave over, and I return to Newcastle to pick up the car two weeks later. Here’s the credit where it is due:

Envy picked me up from the airport.

Service was complete.

Windscreen wipers changed.

Anti Roll Bars changed. (didn’t fix the clunk but that’s a different story and has now been solved – thanks Zmanalex)

Wheels fitted and looking sweet.

However,

The Exhaust Cats arrived approx 2 hours before me.

When I arrived the car had just been completed (rushed job?).

The Japspec was sitting lopsided.

No Badges fitted.

The exhaust was blowing because the correct gaskets had not been ordered. I was told that this wasn’t a problem as they would forward the gaskets on to me for me to fit at my expense.

Half an hour up the road and the ECU light came on. Not Happy.

I assume that it is because the Exhaust is not sealed properly and the O2 sensor is kicking off.

Popped it into Nissan in Edinburgh and they confirmed that the O2 sensor is showing a fault. They clear the fault but it promptly comes back again later on that day.

Passed all this onto Envy and they assure me that it is not their fault as it was fine when they changed it. I’m not happy, as the sensor was not faulting before the Cat change and it takes t least two runs before the ECU throws a fault and when did Envy have the time to check?

After I got home the real trouble started. Envy had told me the Gaskets were on the way. But suffice to say no gaskets ever arrived.

By October the gaskets still had not arrived and neither had my refurbished wheels.

I booked the car into Nissan Aberdeen (Evans Halshaw – great service, pulled out all the stops) They fixed the clunk in the front suspension which turned out to be the compression rods and then they fitted the exhaust gaskets. They also tried to fix the lopsided exhaust but it turned out all my exhaust mounts had been snapped and put back together with cable ties (not happy again) Even the addition of new exhaust mounts (at my expense again) did not fix the lopsided exhaust.

The Gaskets fitted and no change to the ECU fault and Nissan inform me that the O2 sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced. I inform Envy and they assure me they’ll send one out.

No O2 sensor appears. No Refurbished wheels appear.

It is now December 2009 and after many many phone calls my wheels turned up one week before Christmas. Unfortunately this is way too late to get them fitted before I have to drive to NI for the holidays. (two new tyres required on the front) I had to do the drive through the snow, Ice and salt with my nice new 19â€s. Not Happy

January 2010

Still no O2 sensor, Alloys are now corroded quite badly in the centres which will have to be replaced as the paint has flaked off and the edge detail is rusting.

Wheels are being maintained as best as possible through the winter but as there is no vacancies in the local garages I can’t get the tyres replaced yet on the 18â€s.

I have sent Envy an email explaining how disappointed I am with their aftersales service and that they will not be paid the outstanding balance on the wheels due to the fact that the O2 sensor has not been sent.

I hate that I have to write this review on a company that is so prolifically posting on this forum and who genuinely seem to be nice blokes but I don’t want any of you guys to fall into the same holes.

Once you take that car away they lose interest very fast!

Be Warned

P.S. On the plus side PIAA windscreen wipers are amazing!!! Expensive but so worth it.

Thats a shame dude.....

Someone once told me they had a bad experience at my favourite restaurant ' Le Bistro Pierres'. Ive been eating there for 10 years and never had a bad meal.

Thats the way it goes sometimes.... Im sure Envy will help you with your current issues now you have bought it to light

:D

Good luck

I'm sorry to hear about your experience and hope that it all gets sorted soon. It is important that feedback on traders is posted whether good or bad as, if we only posted up the good, people might get a false impression. Good luck with it.

thankyou for the review mate, its always good to see the good and bad. forums have a habit of hiding their friendly traders problems as people dont want to publicly post them and look bad.

sorry to hear about the problems though mate :(

Sorry to hear about Gaz's mother passing, condolences to the family.

Good that you wrote the review as you did, good or bad its good it comes to light. Had no problems with Envy's group buy but I fitted the BERK's myself, as far as I remember they didn't come with gaskets. Wasn't that hard to swap out for me lying under the car so shouldn't take to long to fit for a garage using lifts (and done it before I'd say)

They also tried to fix the lopsided exhaust but it turned out all my exhaust mounts had been snapped and put back together with cable ties (not happy again) Even the addition of new exhaust mounts (at my expense again) did not fix the lopsided exhaust

^

Thats hard to understand why that was done in such a way, then again left my cage in for a clean (Altezza) came back and lost my rear license plate while driving off, they had use to much pressure behind it or something come loose and used tejp (double folded over) to keep it in place. Last time I ever EVER hand a car in for a clean :dots: Hope you get it sorted man.

Hi David,

I'm sorry you feel you needed to post this. I really don't want to be dealing with something like this right now but I feel you are owed an apology.

Most of the issues here were really quite minor although when added up look like a major screw up on our behalf.

If read from an outside perspective it looks as if we have done nothing to alleviate your issues when this wasn't the case.

We paid for the diagnostic and rectification works carried out by Evans Halshaw, in lieu of the wheel refurbishment cost, and transport of them and your stock replacement parts back to you, so you've not been left out of pocket.

I do agree that this will have caused you some inconvenience for which I am truly sorry, and have apologised many times on the phone to you.

Because you refused to pay the outstanding balance, I can't send you an 02 sensor, which admittedly took a long time to arrive. Although this may not seem fair under the circumstances, I believe its the only way to ensure we were paid the balance. If you've not resolved this yet I'm happy to talk further.

Now that you've aired this, perhaps any further discussion can by made via PM.

Best Regards,

Gaz Walker

Sorry Gaz, I'm sure you have more important things to deal with at the moment but itdoesn't really explain what happened with the exhaust though and its mountings.

Perhaps Sarah can explain so Gaz can get on with family matters :)

At a guess the zip ties have been used on the mounts to try and even out the K2's lopsidedness

Something bulletmagnet listed as a way of sorting the issue?

Nissan have seen this and fitted new mounts?

Looks like envy havnt just "Once you take that car away they lose interest very fast!" from Gaz's reply and have tried to help and spent money on diagnosis when the 02 spacers should have been used to rectify the issue...

I see.

Unfortunately I can't comment further on that. The mechanic that did the installation no longer works for us.

I didn't see exactly how it had been fitted at the time. David said he replaced the brackets and it made no difference. I could speculate that the Japspeed exhaust may have been mis-aligned, or something similar. Any garage should be able to rectify this.

sorry Mark, although it is know to be a problem with the K2, It still not acceptable. The owner should of been informed that this had been done. Afterall he originally ordered a Milltek only for it not to be complete.

I have ordered a few things off Envy - nothing as major as the poster - but been more than happy with the service they have provided!

Like other people have said though, its good to hear a range of peoples experiences and in this instance even though it is one of our friendly traders, it doesn't sound like the best service. This is nothing against Gaz, Sarah and crew because any times I have spoke with them they have been very helpful and friendly.

I hope the parties can come to an amicable agreement to resolve the problems.

No person or company can maintain 100% customer satisfaction. Even Bigphil had some pretty unhappy customers.

From the generally positive feedback about Envy, you would assume that this is a blip and that Envy will rectify this satisfactorily for all concerned.

Although, blaming it on a dodgy K2 (that is known to have fitment issues) and a mechanic that no longer works for you sounds a little lame imo.

I'd like to make clear that this is a review of the service I have received and lists both good and bad points.

For all who think that it should be an easy fix, you are missing the point and that is why traders and garages get away with bad service.

it should have been done properly in the first place. That's why we pay for the labour rather than just the parts.

Envy have appologised for this.

I have been in contact with Envy since posting this and they are currently working to resolve this.
