v3euk Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Hey, Just thought i'd say, looking to buy a Z in the near future.. just building up the funds and having a browse round the forums as to what spec i'd be looking to buy etc From what ive seen i think i'll be going for a 03-ish plate UK model Quote
Maccaman Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Hi & to the forum. 53 plate onwards are UK cars. Quote
martinmac Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Hi and welcome again. Best of luck with the search and if we can help out at all with any questions feel free to ask. I see you have already identified one of the few drawbacks with the car, the rather outdated ICE setup. Quote
v3euk Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 I'm based in Coventry, Midlands. Yeh, i'd like to try and keep the controls on the steering wheel working where possible, but i can't really plan much ICE wise until i've got the car and see what its got when i buy it i guess. Quote
Stew Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Welcome! I'm sure you'll ask questions as they pop up. Quote
v3euk Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 Thanks all Quick question about the steering controls, am i right in saying that the left hand side ones control the bose system? And then the right hand side is cruise control etc. Then if the Z has a birdview sta nav, this is controlled within the birdview cubby? So to keep the steering controls, i'd only need a stock head unit? Or can these controls be used with certain aftermarket head units? Quote
martinmac Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 The birview is controlled by a remote unit which is ok as long as you carry spare batteries. Without the remote you cant do anything. Its a pretty good unit to use but doesnt take postcodes. Quote
D350z Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Welcome! I'm running an Alpine head unit in my 02 JDM Azure 350Z with full remote control of my iPod in the cubby behind the handbrake. I've used a module box to connect the original steering wheel controls to the Alpine head unit and another module box to interface the Alpine to the Bose amps. I still use the Bose sub and amps. I have fitted new speakers units in the doors and rear using the original mounts. The improvement in sound over the original Bose system has been amazing. I wrote up the whole process with pictures and spec on the 'other' forum but I migrated to this forum as it is free and better. My car will be for sale for 8.5k later this weekend. If you want a UK spec car you will need from 10k upwards. Cheers, Damien. Quote
D350z Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Pictures of my head unit are here: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/986134.htm You may find it useful. Good luck looking for your perfect Z. Quote
bronzee Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Welcome to the forum. Happy Zed hunting, you may find a good deal around, as Zeds aren't expensive now a days. Quote
