relentless Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 If you do very few miles a year ie 3k or so, is it really necessary to have the car serviced annually (as per Manufacturer recommendations) or is it ok to wait until you actually hit the recommended mileage before having a service done even it takes several years to get there? What about things like sparks plugs, brake fluid and cam belt? cheers! Mark Quote
Lexx Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Warranty will be voided if it dont get serviced at prescribed intervals. Quote
martinmac Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Would also make selling it on very difficult. Quote
Ian Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Mine has only done 5k since its last service in April 07 so I didnt see the point in getting it serviced after such a short amount of mileage. I'll just be doing it every 9k Did do an oil change in the summer though Quote
relentless Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 do oils break down over time even if just left to stand or with little use? What about say a cambelt or plugs? Quote
martinmac Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 No cambelt, its got timing chain. Oil will degrade over time. Quote
Chris`I Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Oil will degrade over time. And brake fulid will soak up water making them easier to boil and go spongy Quote
Maccaman Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Mine has only done 19500 in 51 months but have always had it serviced at 12 month intervals. That way I always know that everything should be fine (as long as the stealers do their job properly) Quote
GIXXERUK Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Brake fluid is hygroscopic although this does take time, the oil will form moisture on the top, and it will only make it worse if you start it and run it for a short period, as condensation will form in the sump due to the difference in temp between in and out oil is the blood of the engine, dont skimp on this Quote
