350 ROADSTER - Full Auto roof operation + remote option

I see this co: mods4cars SmartTOP offers solution for 370Z Roadster - What are the differences in 350 / 370 hood mechanisms? - How practical would it be to upgrade 350 to, presumably auto front latching as per 370, to allow Smart remote operation?

Anything is possible. It's fairly simple to override the system that says the car is at standstill for the roof function (I imagine the correct resistor would do), once you've done that you're sorted.

Check my350z.com, I'd be amazed if no-one had done it already.

Well obviously that bit will still need doing so the remote option is either impossible or needs a motor attaching to the handle, but I assumed that the remote operation was the least useful part of the conversion.

I don't know about the 350 roof mechanism, but I've got one on my 370 and it's brilliant. It makes life so much easier, having the one touch facility and being able to open/close whilst moving (albeit slowly!). It's also cool being able to operate the roof remotely as you leave/approach the car 😄

..big improvement...I wonder if any specialist has looked at practicality of fitting 370 auto lock catch mechanism in 350?

Have you had both 350 and 370? - It is said the 370 has much worse rear tyre noise and engine / exhaust has lost its magic - what are your observations, cos the roof mechanism alone is tempting (when values are lower..)

No, I've never had a 350 so can't really compare the two. Tyre noise isn't too bad, I'm running 20's, but the stock exhaust leaves a lot to be desired! I had a replacement for mine before I'd even collected my car! I've got a fast intentions true dual, purchased off a great guy (Darren B) on this forum and I love it but it comes down to individual taste. I know a lot of guys recommend the invidia and cobra systems, but I'd suggest listening to as many as possible before committing

As you say the 350z has a manual lock/unlock mechanism for the hood. You need to unclip it, then press the power hood button - whilst keeping foot on the brake pedal (to kinda prove you are stationary). You could by pass the brake thing, but I think the manual clip would be harder to do. The 370z on the other hand is fully electric, so you press the hood button - it unlocks the roof, then powers it down.

I had a 370z roadster as a courtesy car for a few days whilst my 350z HR Roadster was in the garage and tbh I just wasnt impressed with the 370z at all. It just didnt feel as responsive or as quick as my standard HR did. I also didnt like the looks of it. It visually looked longer & narrower than the 350z, but in reality its the complete opposite - its shorter & wider. The interior was a much better place to sit in and things like the sat/nav & entertainment system was better than the OE sat/nav/stereo on my 350z. But for me, that was about it. It certainly didnt have me rushing to hand over my cash to the sales man. I didnt notice any difference between them with regards to engine/tyre noise.

cheers bunny, looks like the interior and auto lock hood are best improvements (though headlights are poss an improvement as 350's now date the car imho)

would be fascinated to see what is involved with windscreen header rail mods to go 350 to 370 operation, as you say the rest is easy

I simply don't like the boot line, it just seems too high in relation to the rest of the car.

Yeah your right, it does seem very high. The whole styling just doesnt do it for me. I can see where they were coming from - the lines are more like the old zed cars. Of course, its all a very personal thing and what one person doesnt like, another does.

The actual headlamps themselves, the HR had dual xenon which were really good and probably the same as the 370z, but as you say, the actual styling is different.

the 370 styling does have a raised rear, no doubt to increase criticised boot size of 350, as I say conversely the 350 headlights have always looked out of place somehow....hence the aftermarket 'eyelids'

Tis the 370 full auto top that is a big improvement though - being a child at heart, opening the top from my kitchen has got to be very satisfying :) Also when rolling rather than being stared at in a crowded public car park - can be done more discreetly down the road without stopping to hold the button

You sound just like me, I love being able to operate the roof remotely or on the move 😄, it's so much easier/better! Was gonna put a video on for you but must've deleted it, ha ha
