I cant find any HPI checks which check on just the VIN. The one i did allowed me to verify the VIN matches the details which were returned from the reg check, which it did.
-
Also, is there anything wrong with buying a car that has been previously stolen? I always thought it was a no no but there doesnt seem to be any info on whether or not it should be reflected in the price? Also looking on www.autocheck.co.uk which is a different site from the one i used, they say : A vehicle's previous stolen status and when it was recovered will not be reported in your AutoCheck. So reading this if i had used these guys it may not have been listed as stolen as it is not a current crime?

I should also point out that there are no reports of it being on the V car register or any insurance claims against it.

Hi all, I've done an HPI check for a new car im buying using the private reg plate it's currently on, but it's come back with the following: Stolen - This registration was recorded stolen on the Police National Computer on 1 Jun 2007 by Greater Manchester Police. I've spoken to the owner who says that it was a car of his at the time (on that private plate) that was stolen and not the car im buying. He said if i check just the VIN it will come back fine. The story makes sense, but i've phoned up HPI to verify this and they dont know the answer. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of this please? I've also called GMP to ask them but they were unable to help me. I've found 2 places online who check only the VIN (after 2 hours of searching) - one checks the National Criminal Insurance Database and the other checks the police databases of 13 countries (none of them UK!!) and both of these have come back clear. However neither of these have checked the Police National Computer. Can anyone offer any advice here? If anyone can help i can PM you the VIN. Cheers.

Sorry for the short replies, I'm on my phone on a night out celebrating!

Well @*!#. I've only gone and bought it! No pre purchase inspection or anything. The car is as straight as an arrow. It looks brand new, engine and radiators are immaculate. Never had a rebuild but had been maintained by Hartech for most of its life. No smoke, the engine sounds perfect, it's been a very well looked after car. So deposit paid and im picking it up next saturday pending HPI check.

Thanks Paul, will check those points out too. Price wise if there are issues with coolant leaks are they scary items too or something that shouldnt put me off too much?

Yes, captain Phillips is the Tom Hanks true story film. Loved it. Also loved Prisoners, with Hugh Jackman. -

Captain Phillips. Best film i've seen in a very long time. -
Cheers Leon but my bro is coming with me. This will be the first one i've looked at. I called that specialist in Knutsford today and had a great chat with him, Gave me quite a few things to check. However i asked him what he would do in this situation, and it was quite a depressing answer. He said he'd get the inspection done including bore scope check (which i would be doing anyway) but also that regardless of it's history, he would spend £1100 pretty quickly and get the IMS uprated and a couple of other bits done to make sure it's as right as can be. This is a bit off putting to me (on a 15 year old car that i dont intend to keep for the long term.) Thanks for scaring me to death. Every other thread is IMS or £8k rebuild. Hopefully the place in Knutsford near me which i mentioned - only trouble is they reckon they're fully booked until April! They said to give them a call though after i've seen the car and they'll see if they can fit me in.

last pic shows the front lip done, agree not so sure about the badges Oh yeah, haha. I didnt see that.

Love the LEDs and the roof. Not sure on the B-pillars (cant tell from the pic but looks like different vinyl to the roof?) Not a fan of the badge though. Have you thought about doing the front lip? That would look good.

 Its the interior that made me want it! When i used to be into BMW's there was a very rare oxblood leather interior which looked very similar to this, but i couldnt find it anywhere in the UK at the time and i wanted it so badly.

Just go to a few garages (quick fit, national tyres etc) and ask if you can have some of their 18" tyres for free. I've done that once before and they were happy to give me a bootful as it's saving them on the disposal cost.

For me, either Tony Soprano, or Nick Stone from the Andy McNab books.

I honestly think it's because she had a camera that she decided to act the way she did - prompting the argument. If she didnt have the camera, i'm almost certain she wouldnt have pulled out to block me. Idiot.

So i dont think this is the right thread... i was looking for the one with the Cyclist Go Pro videos, but i'll post here anyway! I had a run-in with a militant cyclist yesterday. Driving along a wide single carriageway A-road, I encountered a cyclist. It was perfectly safe to overtake so i put my foot down to do so. However in the time it took for the auto gearbox to shift down a gear and just start accelerating, the cyclist pulls right out into the center of the carriageway to block me on purpose! I had to jump on my brakes to avoid knocking them off, and gave them a blast of the horn. So the cyclist then moves towards the right edge of the carriageway (i.e. the middle of the road), purposefully blocking me (because i had the cheek to honk at them clearly). When they eventually pulled in i drove past them, but then we were stopped at traffic lights and they caught up. So at the traffic lights they come along to the passenger side and banged on my window, which i wound down, and it was a woman, maybe in her 40's with a camera on her helmet! She proceeded to shout at me and ask me what the hell i was doing beeping at her, and that it was her right of way to block me from passing if she wanted to! Obviously i gave it back to her and told her what i thought before the lights changed and i had to set off. From my point of view i definitely didnt do anything wrong. I didnt get to the point of passing her but would have left plenty of space as i always do if i had got to that point, but for her to pull out on purpose definitely deserved a beep! So... expect to see me on one of these militant cyclist videos on youtube in the near future im sure.

I've posted this a load of times on here before, but this is me having a whole lot of fun at Oulton.

Dont take the zed to the Oulton drift day... the track is raised slightly from the grass alongside it and within an hour you will have wrecked that Nismo bumper/sideskirts being fiberglass. I've dont the Oulton drift day about 7 or 8 times... the first time i went in my previous zed but then after that i bought an RX7 and then an E36 specifically for it. Amazing fun, just not in the zed. If i were you i'd look at the track taster sessions - most tracks do them including Oulton park, and you're paying £25-30 for a 20 minute session to get a feeling for it. You'd be surprised at how long 20 mins feels like when you're on track too - it would certainly be enough to whet your appetite. Alternatively, http://www.trackdaydrivers.com/ run sprint days at Curborough in Stafford i think. I went there once and it was ok, but it's only £60 for all day. Just you on track for about 90 seconds on a technical circuit, and then you come off and go to the back of the queue whilst other people have their go. I got about 20 runs in the whole day. If you look on the website, there is a picture of my silver zed in their site footer and in the rotating header banner!

My favourite quote is i think from S02E01 with the South African guy, who says 'No Alan, you can't!' and Partridge replies '...well there's no need for that!'

Happy birthday bud.

I've dreamed about my zed 3 times since i sold it. One of the dreams i actually bought it back.
