inside the door shut, theres a little rubber nipple (one each side) it may have got slightly deformed, and may not fully release so the door thinks it's still shut and not drop the window. my drivers side does it and i have to adjust the nipple sometimes am sure it's been posted about before to which i replied with pictures.

defo go with the samsung nc10, excellent build quailty and around 7hrs battery life,might be more than you budgeted for but well worth it IMHO went for the blue one in the end http://www.sammynetbook.com/news.php <--- useful site just seen your edit, no netbooks have a internal dvd/cd drive

nice one got my netbook on wednesday, so far am very impressed with it, glad i waited and got the samsung nc10 instead of one of those Eeepc one's i can confirm the battery life is very good,spend a good few hours on it with just the battery powering it and still got over 3 hrs left
