  1. ^^ sounds about right to me! no idea if the ecu is "locked" - doubt it!
  2. bumping after less than 3 hours? new record! damn - this is a bump too
  3. as you say, you can get a lot of car for your money atm! (and the running costs are very reasonable!)
  4. it means the clutch material is organic based - rather than being ceramic or metallic. I think generally that organic clutches do not handle heat as well as ceramic ones, but they are easier to drive and less wearing. see: http://www.subydude.com/osc/detailsdoc.php?3065
  5. results were on last page of this thread... as is a link to TDI blog.. http://tdi-plc.com/blog/ and yep 3.5 hours seems fast to me too but they appear to have done a good job (and they had tuned a Haltech G35 before)
  6. OK - picked up the car this morning and drove it home (about an hour)... the car is much more driveable than ever really, picking up much much better from 3000-4000 rpm particularly (and also not tailing off past 6000 although I only got to try that once!).. gathering speed from 80 to 100 in 5th on the motorway it feels significantly improved - you put your foot down and stuff seems to happen quite a bit more quickly.. I would say the car is 10% faster the car starts and runs perfectly fine and there are no problems noted so far! both me and TDI were pleased with the results, especially in the torque curve! to give some indication of the cost: total cost is hard to quantify as I had some other work done at the same time, however fitting the ECU must be under an hour and TDI used 3.5 hour of dyno time to tune the ECU (most of the gains came from adjusting cam timing) at £95 an hour.. so lets say 400 quid fitting/tuning and the ECU was 965 - and then add VAT = £1570 more impressions will surely follow over the coming week or two
  7. skipping CDs should be fixed under warranty, and I'm sure the garage will adjust the handbrake for you under warrenty.. removing the counterweight didnt make much difference (I have nismo spoiler too) - but for some people it has and is worth trying before getting ESR struts.. there is a guide on forum somewhere just to make it foolproof!
  8. also have the kinetix (paired with nismo exhaust) - they add quite a bit to the sound of the nismo, as people behind me in the tunnels on the way to brighton a few weeks back will attest.. they should allow for greater airflow through the exhaust system of course, and I have had no trouble with sensors with mine (which were installed by the local muppet) which I have had on for over a year now..
  9. hmm I'll see what I can do - but they may be hibernating already
  10. good post btw "drivetrain" refers to the components which transmit power from the engine to the wheels - just a note
  11. no but they are fine for most uses - the Haltech is really overkill (and futureproof) on my part I guess :/
  12. well as I say, there are cheaper ECUs around.. fcon or utec?
  13. my thinking in getting it done before hand is that I can get a feel for how TDI work and start building a relationship with them, as well as spreading a little of the cost of upgrading... for me it's something I intend to build on over the coming year
  14. I have nismo catback, kinetix highflow cats, kinetix plenum - I am using standard air intake with a K&N filter. I am not sure it would be worth it unless you plan on a FI or hefty NA build, I will be posting up the costs next week once it's all finalised, but as a rough idea the ECU is £965+vat and TDI charge £90 an hour for dyno tuning time... there are cheaper ECU options!
  15. researching this too - would be interested to know too!
  16. TDI have put some more info on their blog page about the tune: http://tdi-plc.com/blog/
  17. OK - first results are back from TDI with my haltech fitted. As you will see a decent increase (particularly in the torque curve!) .. it's encouraging as a base to build upon over the coming year I won't be able to pick the car up till the weekend but Sam at TDI has driven it and says it runs well.. (these are wheel figures of course)
  18. well cold air is denser, so you can get more of it into your engine, and thus you will need more fuel to keep the air/fuel ratio the same.. cant believe it would make such a large difference though!
  19. i'd say its worth at least 8500 if it's in proper nick - it's got satnav, GT, red - all the options to add value!
  20. they are set 1 inch lower front and back - and I did stress the importance of clearing speed bumps (and TDI have tested that over a bump near their workshop) they have a great garage setup there, my car felt a bit inferior compared to the ferrari/evo/supra crowd (and their very nice 500bhp jag they are developing)..
