  1. I've got a K&N typhoon, seems pretty good to me apart from the carbon lid rattles a bit. also i couldn't fit the full air duct as it clashes with my oil cooler but cant blame k&n for that.

I had the same issue so I got some clear rubber trim and popped that on the metal edges. problem fixed.

I think I might have also put a piece of foam on the bonnet where the carbon lid rubbed and that held it in place.

    definitely no rattles then

  2. it will be the Geometry, if you dismantle the suspension and change the springs you need to have the geo checked to make sure you didn't knock something out when it was apart. most places will check for free.

or go for a proper 4 wheel laser alignment £70 - £100 depending on who and where does it. but the difference can be huge.

as long as tyres match across the axle they don't have to match front and back, but running the same tyre and tread depth can improve handling it won't be the route cause unless your fronts are a set of nankangs.

also new tyres take 300 -500 miles to lose the release agent from the tyre moulds. some tyres are worse than others for it and it can make it feel very skittish until the tyres bed in.

  3. Am really enjoying my V6 VW Touareg

and it has a decent 4wd setup and has a good rep off road for what it is. better than any merc or BMW

or you could go Q7 or Cayenne both run on the same chassis as the VW.

Current VW has put me off VW ownership! And I dont want what I perceive to be chelsea tractor.

agreed the X5 and Q7 are very chelsea but i find the Touareg doesn't draw as much attention for more useable and has proper diff controls and locks that mean its actually useable off road.

mine has the big 19" wheels which for road driving make it alot more planted for the daily driving. i have a second set of porsche wheels with winter tyres on and it has made the car pretty industructable weather wise. although we had no snow the back roads i drive can be icey and muddy. and there are some nasty negative camber sections but you wouldn't notice them in the Egg.

is the recent emissions scandal the put off point? as its starting to come to light they were all doing it. VW happened to be the first to get caught.

I like the height and size of the Touareg as i often pick up my toddler twins the ability to slot them in the car standing up with out having to fight to get into the back of the car is great.

once they are bigger i'll probably drop down to a sporty estate. (hoping a jag XFR-S sport brake)

  4. Am really enjoying my V6 VW Touareg

How are you finding the size/width of the Touareg for getting around town/parking etc?

One of next potential cars on my list is about the same width but longer than a Touareg, only thing putting me off is the size compared to all our previous cars.

Having had the XC90 before hand the size of the tourareg feels smaller as its turning circle and feedback make it feel more nimble. the XC90 was like an oil tanker in comparison. i find it very useable and a nice place to be.

  6. they also do a 4wd v6

won't set any land speed records but beautiful to look at.

downside with the V6's is they all fall into the post april2006 tax problem of then having to pay nearly £500 a year for RFL

  7. we'll pay more if we stay and we'll pay more if we go both as a tax payer and as a country

there was already talk of our EU payments increasing and all EU countries will have to increase payments when the next wave of countries join.

  8. i am yet to speak to my main insurance provider to have the final discussion, i've spoken to the accident management company who supplied the courtesy car. they've cut their loses and walked away, but the main thing is the cost from them isn't coming back to me.

I will be discussing the 50:50 with the insurer to get their side of the argument, not sure if they got the images i sent the AMC

  9. Can't see the point in paying 300 quid on a camera (that's attractive to thieves), to save you from not getting the blame, and being penalised maybe a 100 quid or so.

I've been driving nearly 30 years without so much as a scratch. I guess if you're pretty useless on the road, they're handy to prove it :p

Maybe you're the one that causes all the accidents; have you tried looking in your rear-view mirror. ;) i remember being in the car with my gran her car was fine but the carnage behind :scare::stir:

in all seriousness the thought of it being nicked has been in the back of my mind, but that's why I've ruled out all that look like satnavs. if fitted behind the rear-view they aren't too noticeable.

if it nails idiots like the guy in the lorry in future it will be money well spent

  10. Apparently a breather gets blocked or something or an oil feed or something? Then it starves the bottom end of oil and bang.

Wasn't that the MR2S using the vvti engine also found in the Gen 7 Celica?

I've heard of Mk3 issues, but I thought the 3SGE/3SGTE was a pretty solid engine.

the Mk3 MR2 used the 1zz engine the celica used the 2zz engine. the 1zz had pre cat issues where the material would crumble and then get sucked back into the engine causing cylinder wear. i had it and then had a new engine fitted.

the 2zz had a higher rev band not dissimilar to the S2K and more bhp 1zz was about 140bhp 2zz was about 200bhp. it was apparently a nice engine to drop back into the mr2 as it had more grunt.

  11. doesn't prove contact was made, only that he was on my side of the road

Surely if no contact was made then there isn't even a claim to be 50/50?

I've hit a wall at this point as the AMC has already settled on it and written off the rest of their costs and my own underwriter is about to do the same. unless i say i want to go to court but they look unwilling to argue it.

  12. the woman i spoke to yesterday at the accident management company said she learnt to drive when she started working for the company, the first thing she fitted after she passed was a dash cam after dealing with this stuff on a daily basis.

    my top 3 choices are

    Blackvue 650

    Mi Witness HD

    Road hawk HD2

although review sites show that the blackvue has had issues it also seems to be a brand that all insurance companies recognise as reliable same with the other 2

  13. neither side has the answers, both are guessing the outcome, even the "Bremain" camp is guesswork, yes there are some constants that currently exist that mean you "could" base decisions on them. but the likelihood is the status quo will dramatically change if we agree to stay. nothing we have agreed with the EU is legally binding and can be over ruled or changed, and as we no longer have a veto therie is little we can do to argue the toss.

at which point all bets are off as to what the financial and end outcome will be.

any data used to argue the case is speculative and usually wrong; take the tax windfall we were supposed to have and the extra money the government said they would have, then all of a sudden...oops sorry got the numbers wrong we don't have the cash.

politicians can't paint an accurate picture even if they were asked to draw a stickman with a crayon.

  14. i like the Mi-witness HD but its not 1080p only 720p, but its the only one ive seen that comes with a 3 year warranty and gaurentee

I don;t want a screen on it, i need it to be small and stealthy to sit out of sight behind the wing mirror and be reliable and record decent footage.

  15. The US only has the US best interest at heart; I don't trust their understanding of international current affairs, every single time without doubt when they've stuck their oar in they've either made it worse or turned it in to a complete turdfest.

I found the back of the queue comment interesting as far as i'm aware the queue length is currently 1 and that the TTIP with the EU and its taken 7 years because they're trying to find common ground with 27 countries.

should take a lot less to negotiate with 1.
