I still haven't removed mine yet it was too busy at work. I think I can get to them by removing the underrated but I couldn't get her on a ramp long enough.

Air can go back in through the end, if you fit a HUUUUGGGEEEEE tail pipe air will go back in and throw out the hydrocarbon reading. Ive seen mot testers stuff a rag in the end before to get it through the emissions. On an mot a combination of eml, major exhaust leak and high hydrocarbon count can be fixed by sorting out the exhaust

I can give you a print out out what an exhaust leak does to the hydrocarbons, its not just the gases leaking out but air going back in, which can trigger the eml and potentially put her limp home mode. But its all undoable when youve run your experiment

OK mate, in a nut shell, short term there will be no harm to the car, it may run a little rough due to back pressure and let in air throwing out your hydrocarbon figure. It will sound different, but not like a aftermarket system. I wouldnt advise running it for longer than a couple of days due to corrosion build up. Dan is dead right, listen to a load of actual systems, im sure youd be welcome along in anyones passenger seat to get a real life experience. Is that a bit more helpful than being roasted?

If it is a stainless system and you go down the replacement route, I call dibbs on your old one

Also an mot failure if its blowing. I know you'd put it back before mot, but you gotta also think its under your car where its wet and salty, and your allowing moisture inside. I admit probably not by much. corrosion build up will make it harder to return to stock.

I think rather than a full resit you get scored every so many years and your score affects you insurance premium. Although I guess we can all drive properly when someone is sat next you giving you a score

Most of the time these are 30/40 roads for a reason ie schools houses industrial areas with lots of junctions, so I agree you should be sensible in these. But I do prefer to sit at 80 on motorways when I don't have cruise control, don't know why. With CC I can sit at 70 all the live long day quite happily
