  1. ^^^ +1 for MTBs .....or for the £8k, surely an LS3 or even LS7 must be the better option and soooooo much more fun to drive - Dont sound too shoddy either IMHO

    Remap

Reducing the CAT choking effect will restore some of the natural 'old school' character - you hear far more detail - When I drove a Griffith 4.3 pre-cat & 500 cat back to back - despite the 500 being younger and similar price, I returned it to the dealership after a couple of mins - night and day difference - the Pre-cat was and is hysterical if not near erotic Re over-run, overlap & fuelling - As I understand it, overlap, as eluded to above is the momentary period during the cycle when both valves are open (scavenging, rapid fuel draw etc) indicative of a more radical cam. Over-run is indeed simply lifting off the throttle....however, with most emission and MPG friendly EFI set-ups, fuelling is cut when the throttle is shut, above a certain rpm / ECU parameters. Since the shut butterfly is the trigger, leaving the throttle cracked open a tad when decelerating, will help re-introduce the crackle, particularly with HFC ? test-pipes With the 4.3 Griff pre-cat, which after saving up for years, I just had to own, I raised the idle slightly to fool ECU into thinking butterfly never closed, leaving fueling on over-run - huge difference Crackle, pop and occasional flash! - You can literally play the throttle as if a musical instrument to get the desired effect - pressing throttle hard down has its rewards too :)
  3. ...may as well install Chevy V8 with matched box...maybe not that much more work? - various conv. bits avail Stateside & RHD manifold patterns must exist in UK by now
  4. Adrian, could you link me to your website please
  5. ...Torquen....now thats what I call a reply!!
  6. ....removing the headlight ballast.....will that affect handling..and would Heavy ballast make much difference to an, err, 'light ballast?
  7. Veily - I think that is a scissor door rather than roof panel looming large?
  8. they look good - what are they / where from? cheers

    Clutch

..time to consider lightened fly & uprated clutch?
  10. ....cheers guys, I feel a lot more comfortable about my Z allegiance again ..just needed to get to the bottom of what came across as an endemic problem..dont mind running bills that cost a few hundred occasionally, but just trying to ensure I wasnt walking into a money-pit! Blame it on the weather.....
  11. cheers Zman for your positive vibe, I shall try and follow your philosophy
  12. agreed...however you gloss over the small point, that all reported faults are the same - one is unfortunate, twice a coincidence, we spotted a few more than 2 with same fault though, hence voicing concern to get other view points Re low octane usage - why doesnt the knock sensor(s) & ECU handle low compression fuels?
  13. ....the amount of adamant support for gearbox integrity is very encouraging (would like to know of a competent affordable resto service as a back up though!)- assuming it is practical, when Nissan apparently states no parts removed from shafts can be re-used
  14. Thanks for that Ek - doesnt the ECU map simply retard the advance to compensate for low grade fuel in countries not having hi octane? I am open to being convinced (at least partially) that the Slave cylinder could in fact feature high in the list of possible culprits for gear baulking and subsequent synchro damage ....what do the Cognoscenti reckon? - Is this theory a realistic ray of hope for the worried? - a leaking slave wouldnt release cover plate sufficiently, creating baulky shifts..
  15. The CD009 fits cars up until 2006 including both VQ35DE and RevUp engined cars. The problem was identified and fixed at some point in early 2006, so I am unsure if that means some facelift cars have the dodgy boxes or if some pre facelifts have the uprated one. Buying this I would imagine to be pointless anyway because a rebuild should cost around £5-600. The Nissan service manual for the 350Z gearbox says that anything pressed out of the gearset has to be replaced with new items. That means any cog you press out needs to be replaced, plus all the synchros, plus everything else holding it together. ..so I understand, how true / vital this is I dont know
  16. ....I really, really want to believe there isnt an issue (look at my post activity to see how enthusiastic I am)...it came as a bit of a shock - even a US specialist selling boxes, refers to the specific issues I had identified from all the reported symptoms and YTube reports...coincidence? - Obstructive gears and dry scouring sound when clutch raised in idle - the DMF & clutch issues are addressable and can be considered 'routine' wear items and a baulky first, even second gear when cold that always comes good when warm again is not a problem (ZF were renowned for it) But if the baulking doesnt clear with heat, or gets worse with time, the baulk/synchro rings are worn and every rough gear selection is likely to wear edge of gear teeth and deposit swarf into circulating oil Synchros really are hard to get wrong, as is designing appropriate shaft support bearings, so seems strange that it took so many years of evolution to improve (does 370 box ihave this sorted?) (not v clear on this clip)
  17. ..I guess reality is somewhere between, its an expensive Russian roulette though Google serch results by number of results is indeed misleading (parenthesis may help) but you only have to read the first...few dozen and follow the threads to be alarmed - some were happening from new, first driver, without spirited driving - then undeniably there are those thrashing the car for high mileage and no complaints ....
  18. still bamboozled as to what fits what and if only one addresses the synchro and shaft bearing issues - as you say even with a wholesale order, prices nearer £1500 to end customer than $ + fitting service
  19. confused as to which fits what precisely - they seem to be saying that the box fitting pre HR has defects sorted..but doesnt fit HR - getting weary with all this now - not sure where 370 box comes in (other than it wont fit 350) - could they make it any more complicated.....the real frustration is...these boxes are built to take 1000bhp...but have seriously week 'ancillary' parts (synchros & shaft bearings (denied by some who have not personally experienced problem) - Just how rife is the problem, it seems endemic
  20. 12 years? Googling something and judging the scale of the problem from number of results is really not the way you should be looking at things... ..spend 5 mins looking ..they all lead to forum members across the world crying into their wallets - if no problem, why the gearbox replacement description in sale item above? - coincidence or creative marketing? - Reckon there must be a prob...ask Geg..
