    Hybrid Z Car

I think the distinction between the GTR and Z chassis cars isn't about out and out power or even speed, it's more about: - GTR is 4WD, Z RWD - GTR is 4 seats (lol), Z 2 - GTR is electronic everything, Z is mechanical - GTR is designed to go round the Nurburgring, Z to do A roads or Route 66 Power train etc isn't the definition of the car, it's the intention. Even if this new Z does make 500bhp it won't put in lap times like the GTR of the day, but I bet it'll look cooler!
  2. I've got to say, if I was hurling money at drifting I'd love to sling this into a VQ and keep it NA. https://www.tarmacsportz.co.uk/350z-03-06-brian-crower-4-15l-stroker-kit.html
  3. Worth knowing I paid £6.3k for an 07 on 80k... And actually, the difference between old and new tax isn't 4 tanks of fuel any more, fuel light to brimmed cost me £90 the other day, so it's barely 2 tanks now! The facelift to me looked soooo much better, so was totally worth it. I love the higher redline too. People say the RevUps burn more oil but I'm not sure how true that is. Mine has used a normal amount of oil, about 0.6l for every 1000 miles, less if I use pricier oil (which I am at the moment). I test drove an HR and with the oil gallery gasket thing it wasn't really worth it to me. Anyway. Mileage doesn't matter, look for an enthusiastic owner who can answer basic questions. If they don't know anything about burning oil I'd be wary. Even if it uses none or very little they should still be clear that it doesn't. Someone who says 'I don't know' likely isn't checking their oil! Upkeep matters way more. Mine's on 120k and hasn't skipped a beat in the 40k miles I've owned it.
  4. Where's this cup holder you speak of? Only thing in front of my passenger seat is a useless little tray thingy.

  6. It's the cats burning of crap, most performance cars do it, you just can't usually smell it. If you find it smells a bit musty or chemical-like as some put it - even if the car's already warm - the first time you absolute bury it for a sustained period, but each time you do it after that it's less or gone, it's almost certainly that and nothing to worry about.
  7. Ask and you shall receive! It's pretty obvious which is before, but if you can't figure it out the one with the 'Tein' sticker is after... On reflection looks like I'm closer to about a 20mm drop. There's still travel left, I think I could reasonably get another 10-15mm lower. We just set it so there was reasonable clearance and the rear arch looked full, which I think we achieved. Might not be able to resist the temptation to slam it though... haha.
  8. Will definitely add some tomorrow, been dark since I got back.
  9. Fitted mine today, which I got from Tarmac Sportz. It's very difficult to find info on these, so basically as soon as they were on I went out onto the most disgusting bumpy local roads I could find, and also tried the car out at speed, and wanted to give a quick bit of feedback. Firstly, despite using stock top mounts, fitment was simple enough. I didn't do it myself as I've just moved and don't currently have any tools, but took it to a mate, and it all went in very easily. My car's coming from stock and that had all been on for about 120k miles and 10 years. Took about two and a half hours. Adjustment's easy enough, but because the rear adjustment is on the separate spring (not a coilover, as such) it's a bit of a dick to adjust. You'll just need to use the socket point on the coilover tool and a torque stick and/or breaker bar to rotate. They look bloody great when you can see them too. Anyway, the main thing. The ride. I'm lowered, I'd guess, between 25 and 30mm. Much lower than I'd originally expected to go but I got carried away. My wheel fitment suddenly looks fantastic. For all the stick Tein get, the ride I actually really like. You definitely notice imperfections in the road an awful lot more; and the first few you go over, you almost wince expecting to have just crashed into it. But nope. Instead you just feel like your butt is reading the road like Braille, and the steering has an alertness and connectedness I absolutely love. I'll check back in once I've adjusted the ride height a few more times and been on our annual trip to Wales, but for now I'm happy to report the ride is certainly 'sportier' but definitely comfortable, the quality of the product itself is extremely good, and the adjustability plenty for my non-track use. Very happy for the amount of money I've spent. Very happy indeed. I don't think anybody just cruising the streets needs any more than this.
  10. ^Just the kinda response I was hoping for. Thanks!
  11. By all accounts the Agency is looooouuuuuuud haha.
  12. You had a timing chain go?! What are the odds of that? I've never heard of that happening on one of these!
  13. Hahaha, not the only one then. Anyone got the AAM?
  14. Apart from being on the quiet side we had some fitment issues. A lot of people seemed to be fine, but some were having problems with the resonator in the mid pipe hitting the prop shaft or not having enough clearance, and people have been denying the resonator to get it to fit. Don't really wanna be bolting parts on that need denting to fit haha. Seems to be a minority issue, but it's put me off trying again tbh.

    200mm?!? Talk about stance hahahaha.
  16. I like to think you can usually tell a fair amount about how a car's been looked after by how willing the owner is to talk shop. Even the least car-oriented people I know who take good care of their cars know the common faults with their model, know if theirs has it, know of the top of their heads what work they've done on it and so on. When looking for mine I met at least a couple guys who, when asked about oil burning (common on a lot of big displacement engines), clicking axles (common on the 350) and even whether the clutch was in good shape, just shrugged. Their cars could be flawless but if they don't even know basic stuff, how can you trust an ad they've written that says 'car's in excellent condition' haha. There's no rush, just buy from the right guy, it'll pay off. Mileage isn't the worry, as I said.
  17. ^good to know, thanks. Time to email tarmacsportz I think!
  18. I tried the ISR and it's not for me. Still feeling the AAM tbh - any reason why not?
  19. I'd rather have my car, bought at 90k now on 120k in 18 months of ownership with pages and pages of work info and an enthusiastic owner than a car with 40k on the clock that's sat rotting on someone's driveway being serviced every now and again.
  20. I currently have a resonated Cobra cat-back but am back to wanting a single exit again. When I was originally in the market it wasn't something I could sensibly justify since most of them are £800+, but I'm feeling a little... Friskier now. I should also preface by saying the first aftermarket exhaust I bought was the ISR single exit and it wasn't for me. Won't go into why, but it went back. So what am I looking for: - More volume. Quite a lot more is fine but I'm mostly looking to retain quality of sound, I don't want anything that sounds like a huge fart of bees in a tin can. I don't particularly want something that'll make the neighbours hate me every time I leave the house at 6am, however... - I can live with more drone than the Cobra Res introduces, because it doesn't really introduce any. I spend most of my life on the motorway though. It seems a lot of single exit manufacturers swear their exhausts aren't droney but I defer to you guys on that really... - Light is good but that's all of them. - A new Y-Pipe, but don't really wanna spend the money on a Stillen. It's a daily, a new Y-pipe just needs to work. The options seem to be... Agency Power - Definitely louder, seems to be ridiculously so, though. 'Racing sound' usually means 'everyone within earshot will hate you', and the YouTube videos appear to support this haha. - Claims not to drone - Claims to be light - Doesn't seem to be an option to get a Y-Pipe with it. Not huge on the colour but could live with it. Tomei - Again, definitely louder but seems to be 'racing sound' again. - Claims not to drone - Claims to be very light indeed - Does seem to have a Y-Pipe option but I can't find it or get a feel for cost :/ AAM - Seems to be loud but I haven't seen anyone describe it as being quite a loud as the other two. The videos don't sound ridiculous, and I like the tone that seems to be coming through. - Claims not to drone - Claims to be light - Again, seems to have a y-pipe options but I haven't found a price Also seems to be available without silly coloured tail. So I'm leaning toward AAM at this stage, is my comparison fair? Anyone experience of the above?
  21. bump - anybody tested these yet? They seem like exactly what I need. I don't track, I spend 90% of my time on motorways so ride comfort isn't even the biggest deal, since most motorways are pretty flat. Ish. Are they decent quality? Do they hold the road well? Are they a bit crashy in terms of comfort?

    FK453's Directional?

    Ok cool, thanks guys.

    FK453's Directional?

Yeah, it's pretty standard to have that, but I rang Oponeo and the guy tells me that even though putting the inside edges together doesn't make the tread pattern a mirror image, it doesn't matter, they're fine. He said that before I even told him what tyre I had though so I don't know if he's fobbing me off; since I though they were directional haha.
  24. I've just had a set of four FK453's delivered and I appear to have received 2 of the same tyre for each size. I was under the impression the 453 was directional, and googling it all I seem to be able to find is people arguing on the internet about whether they're directional or not. Does anyone here recall whether they should be the same? Putting them inside edge to inside edge they aren't mirror image but the tread patterns are near enough the same. There's also no inside line painted around the edge of the tyre, and no direction arrow or mention of directionality - there isn't on Falken's site either. This would suggest what I have is correct. Anybody any ideas?
  25. As said, it probably is the cats' heat shields, but even if you secure them, they'll just continue to wear and likely start rattling again. There's no harm in cutting them off.
