Always thought that myself too, thought I'd best do a quick photoshop to confirm that! Looks alright but I reckon in the flesh it might not look so great. Hmmmmm.....

My Rays might get treated to a refurb come summertime and a mid-to dark bronze colour has been at the back of my mind for a while. Thought that photoshopping them might be enough to put me off the idea which is probably very silly (kinda feel i should just keep them original.... and that if I wanted bronze I should buy new alloys... but which i can't afford at all....) however I'm still totally undecided! What do you reckon? Sadly totally new rims are out of the question this year until I've paid off my mountain bike's 0% finance. The reason I'm swaying over the idea is that I think it makes the wheels look a lot smaller with them being a darker colour?

Ah! First and only time I've ever noticed that number on the computer and considered it, had initially thought it was a 'maximum rev on that trip' counter type of thing! That explains that. Mines at 6500

I had a road bike for a few months and did a few shortish rides and one 45 miler- set off with the intentions of hating it, looking like a plonker with MTB gear on.... but I did genuinely enjoy it! Sold the bike (an old Ellis Briggs) a few months later as I had a decent offer on it and I just couldn't see myself buying all the gear. Still have the SPDs and shoes that were actually MTB ones so may consider trying clipping in offroad sometime I guess. I did notice it helping my cadence and general fitness from the few rides that I did though!

Definitely bookmarking this page for next time. Need to get the other half's machine polisher out and give it one proper "do" in a month or so. Great advice everybody, thanks!

Interesting.... would Hardbody just replace wax in the usual routine, after wash, claybar and polish? Or would I need to change the type of prep work and polishing product used too? Thanks, you guys certainly know your stuff!

I swear by my Maxxis Highrollers! Never had many issues with them and they were just as good in the Alps as they were back here. The newer version 2 looks massive though, probably too large profile for anything XC based (and i haven't got the strongest legs which doesnt help!)

Yeah guess so! Always said i'd never buy a silver car because you can never seem to achieve that deep paint gloss... but the GM 350z paint seems closer to having silver paint values than the gunmetal you find on BMWs etc.... you can get those GMs very very glossy!

I found it quite tricky to get a deep shine on my grey- although I didn't use a very abrasive polish and it was all by hand! It was pretty shiny to start with though so guess i did't reap the same rewards as starting on a filthy car. Good luck with it

Definitely not! You'll do a great job with the stuff you have, but yeah, certainly recommend a metal polish! Hint for next time too, get yourself on ebay and find a 30ml panel pot size Dodo Juice Supernatural wax. Easily enough for at least 5 coats, so maybe a years worth of waxing for me. Only £13 ish too. It goes on so easily and buffs off easier than any non-liquid wax I've ever used

I'd keep the polish.... but regarding the headlight restoration, I got some autoglym metal polish in a tube and it works wonders on headlights, I spent maybe a minute on each and they look new. Use it with a bit of wire wool and it'd do tailpipes and other metal stuff too

Ooh I'm gonna remember this! Not played with the camera properly for a long while... will submit a pic or two from last weekend's cleaning session when I get home

Those Rays look great for the refurb! They look a tad darker than usual, are they the standard colour? Might just be the picture Toying with a colour change on mine.... vs. buying totally new wheels when I come to getting mine refurbed!

I browsed all the websites for months and even started to consider and look closer at ones I'd previously flicked passed that weren't up to my ideal spec, just because I wanted one so badly. But one will come up suddenly and you'll know when its the perfect one Keep us updated!
