  4. Ok great. Tried calling sextons but I don't think they are open? I am struggling to see why I would lose the audio from the satnav anyway with a Bose loom... Also desperate to know if I will lose power to the satnav screen! I will make a ice specialist of myself! You wait
  5. Good spot well that's good news then! Will ask sextons about this ariel converter
  6. Chris on the forum - from Leicester said he managed it! When there is a will there is a way . Do I need this ariel converter
  7. Evening all, I have just purchased a JVC AVX740, and that is all! I am going to get the rest of the stuff from Sextons as I couldn't bare another minute in CarAudiosSecurity with the brutal sales efforts going on! I have an 08 z with factory satnav anyway - I have literally read all ICE threads and stickys on here so here goes: 1. the guide says I need the bose loom with steering controls (with a JVC adapter cable thing) and a double din facia, possibly also a booster, but we'll see. is there anything else? the guys in C.A.S were saying I need an ariel adapter?? I have never heard that one or noticed it on any of the threads!? 2. will the power for the satnav screen be taken through the standard bose HU? i am concerned that I will lose the image on the satnav when I change the HU? I know the audio is lost, but I am looking into a way where I can get this put into an AUX input so I can just switch when needed. 3. any other tips?! cheers all james
  8. +1 you cant seem to get a good sq based multimedia system. Ive used JVC in my last 2 cars and really liked them. I personally if you can would would for the 8xx series. Also try caraudiodirect you can usually get a bit of discount of them and postage isnt stupid at £8 or something. BUT if your buying a new headunit purely to add quality to the bose system you might be disapointed. The source unit isnt going to be 100x better then the bose cd player. Espically since to you will probably keep using the bose amp. If your that disapointed in the bose it needs to come out, all of it. +lots I changed my HU first mainly for multimedia and it wasn't an amazing difference in SQ but I had satnav, proper iPod control etc etc then I changed all 4 speakers and amped then seperate to the Bose and WOW.... I still ran them with the Bose sub and attached amp until recently which was ok but now with that changed too it is much better still. So basically change the HU for functionality, but be prepared to have to change speakers and amp them to get any huge difference in SQ Great responses guys - much clearer now! I will get up some pics once its done, but for now I will most likely go for the HU (not to improve SQ, i just don't want it to get any worse) but to improve ipod etc, it cant be any worse than an ipod ---> cassette lead! haha
  9. you think it will make any difference to the Bose set up?
  10. thanks for the feedback guys! really appreciate it. I am looking for a bit of both really, its a good price, I just dont want to spend 300 on it and it be any worse or no better than the toaster thats currently in the Z. Multimedia wise its pretty cool, is there anything i can do to improve the SQ without changing speakers?
  11. maybe post up a pic? did it have any distinguishing extras on it? I work and live in london so always could keep an eye out?
  12. Fair enough, just worried about sound quality getting worse
  13. http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... 15058.html Guys is this any good? I have been told by a friend that MOS-FET isn't great and the power output won't be 50W constant? I don't know much about this so would be good if you could let me know that would be great! Cheers all James
  14. ok - where abouts did you get the AUX input from in order to plug it into the satnav, the HU i am ordering has the AUX in the front, so would only want to plug it in when needed to prevent a cable being plugged in all the time. does an AUX come out of the satnav and into the old bose and its as simple as plugging that cable in to the new HU when needed?
  15. Dean, - I have seen them without the grooves on the bumper so that will be fine - Speak to the traders on here - also P4ul T (think thats his name) is a UK rep for Shine who are great replica kit manufacturers. People say they are bette rthan the originals with fit and quality not sure on the paint and fit question James EDIT: Also you can get them without the canyards pretty easily
  16. So you cannot get the satnav sound to work if you fit an aftermarket HU?! Why not?
