  1. I see your point BUT at the same time, I bet you would be gutted if you were say away on holiday for 3 weeks when your insurance ran out and in that time some scally broke into and stole your car. The way I see it, no matter what system you use someone is going to not like it, but this way (in theory at least) your car will always be insured so with that in mind, auto renewal with the option to cancel at any time is the best system for me personally.
  2. thanks for the info. Will just have to hope i dont get points then as they are SO much cheaper than any other quote
  3. yep, paying all in 1 go. have to wait till tomorrow (payday) to dodge the credit card charge. it has actually gone up to £263 now but that is with a £150 quid excess as opposed to £350. 1 quick question. What are admiral generally like with things like mild mods (its possible my exhaust is blowing a bit this morning) last time i looked, Direct line - my current insurers - wanted £200 extra just for me getting a stainless exhaust system. finally, are admiral 3 point friendly? my licence is currently clean but you never know!. cheers M.
  4. my old insurance company neglected to tell me they had written off my car, so I had been driving around with it officially a CAT D right off for over 2 months. The only reason I found out was becasue I phoned them to pull their finger out and give me some info on when the car would be booked in for work (it was only wing and bonnet damage with the lights still working). Am not sure what the answer is to be honest. So much now is done over the phone and via direct debit etc, much of it just in good faith...... but good faith does not account to much if you do 20K worth of damage in an accident and are uninsured, or god forbid you paralyse someone.
  5. I know about the tolerences however I did not know the standard speed gun flashes. Fingers crossed then, thanks for the info, I guess i will know one way or another within the next week
  6. my 05 model, standard so what is that, 276bhp?? over the last 6000 miles or so I have averaged 27.2mpg.
  7. just dont get caught speeding again or you will be in the mire insurance wise! I am at squeeky bum time at the moment. Last Friday (13th) I overtook a lorry on a dual carriageway only to see a policeman pointing his gun at me once i got in front of it. instinctively I slowed down but I have a feeling I was doing around an indicated 80-85mph. Normally would not have been going that fast but had seconds earlier has some unobservant fool wind me up by boxing me in on the feeder lane onto the dual carrageway despite it being empty so had minor road anger.... But I digress and its no excuse each day I get home from work expecting the dreaded letter. Fingers crossed I can go on one of those road awareness courses if the worst happens. My licence is clean so maybe. (+ am hoping I will be in the benefit of the doubt speed bracket anyway)
  8. wow, that is pretty scarey, becasue whilst clearly Haverhill is deemed a low risk area right now, all it would take is a rejig of the post codes and all of a sudden my insurance could quite conceivably more than double in price. It is a flawed system. How are you supposed to budget for whether your can afford something when prices can sway so much without warning?. ok maybe £600 was an exageration, however certainly had my quotes for the car been over £700 before I was looking to buy, I would never have purchased it.
  9. seriously? you pay over 2k on insurance? wow if my insurance ever went over £600 my car would be for sale. I know age etc play a big part and i know the value of money is different for everyone but £200 a month JUST on insurance, for me i would be putting that kind of cash into bricks and mortar. each to their own and all that.
  10. lol in fact the town i live in is considered the "rough" area surrounding Cambridge. That being said, Cambridge folk dunno the meaning of the word "rough" imo. To most it seems a few teenagers hanging outside a shop and cruising up and down in their cars with a loud stereo counts as rough.
  11. and for once its good! I need to check details when i am home but. My renewal came through with Direct Line and was a fairly ok £445 but i checked compare the market with the following details 36 year old 1 claim - but only *just* inside 5 years (july 07) 13 years NCB (no claims protection on above claim) car kept on drive only 5000 miles a year however. and was stunned when it came back with £236 from Admiral/Elephant. protected NCB, £350 excess (may play with this a bit) courtesy car etc etc. not bad for a group 47 car. (immaculate uk 2005 350Z no mods with 39k on the clock, I valued at 9k, though that may be optimistic) so long as all is ok with the small print i will be as happy as a pig in pooh
  12. Mine will be going to KJL in pampisford (just off the A505 exit of M11) The main guy there purchased a Nissan GTR and i figure if he is working on his own GTR, he can manage my Zed.
  13. any man who sets up their own blog with pie reviews is a man whos opinion should be respected (am hungry now!)
  14. Hi its been a while - work been busy, but the car has been a dream and v well behaved.... till last week. it seems my washer motor may have burned out, am going out at lunch with a mate who is gonna have a listen under the bonnet to see if he can hear my motor trying to pump, if it does (i cant hear in when i am in the car mind you) then i will try removing the splitter / NRV however, if it is dead i will order a pump from xmanalex BUT is there a fitting guide - ideally with pics - I had a look for could not find one, if there is please pop the link here. i am rubbish at this sort of thing, so am tempted to take to garage, BUT if it is a do-able diy job maybe i should get out of my comfort zone and give it a go. cheers M. edit sorted.... its either a loose wire and they will fail again, or it was trapped air as they are working now after a lot of squirting attempts whilst listening for the pump (which is v quiet).
  15. well I am sorted now.... It was the welding joint, and had pretty much cracked all the way around. Garage said they would weld if i wanted but would charge 2 hrs labour but that as it happened they recently fit a full stainless to a zed and had a spare exhast in VGC. cost me £192 for fitting of 2 new tyres and supply and fitment of the 2nd hand oem exhaust. Not too bad, and my old one must have been getting steadily worse for a while..... i cant remember the last time my car sounded this good As an aside however, he must earn way to much, i am in the wrong job. I had a look at his STUNNING red Nissan GTR...... I figure if he is good enough to work on that, then i can trust him with my 350Z (although as his is under warranty it is currently having to go to nissan i believe) christ i like those things.
  16. doh! i should have thought that was coming..... I will get on it also, the car has only done 35k and is a late 05 so i intend to get it checked out to see if it can be welded. cheers
  17. fair enough, i wondered if there was an aftermarket part which was equivalent to the official nissan part but cheaper. but from what you posted above i guess that is not the case. Do I have to buy from Nissan then? cheers
  18. are direct liine having a laugh? To be fair they are giving me an excellent deal on my policy, the woman apologised but said they are not really mod friendly luckily, I have not purchased it yet..... So, I am after an exhaust which is the same spec as the original part so i do not have to tell insurance, but i still want it to have the nice chrome end of the tail pipe (or is that detachable and fits on the new exhaust?) Ideally i do not want to pay nissan prices and would like something which will still sound nice. car is a GT spec if that makes a difference. what would you guys recommend? I did consider playing dumb and just fitting one, however i guess i cant now i have phoned them, and besides, i would not want to be uninsured. cheers
  19. I will update here with my experiences. Last year insurance was 700 quid, at the time direct line were good, but Noel Dazely brokers found me a slightly better deal. Renewal this year 915 quid - but there is a note on the letter to phone and they will try to beat this. however last night they were closed so i phoned direct line. ok so i have had to put my excess up from 300 to 500 quid but even so.... £454. I then realised my better half insures the punto with them & we have landlord insurance with them on our flat, so on phoning i mentioned that and got a further 10% off. final offer £412.34. Insurance companies.... I am sure when coming up with a renewal quote they have a wheel of fortune or play a game of Numberwang to come up with the numbers.
  20. Thanks, here it is then 4. PASSENGER CARS Category 1 Alarm/Immobiliser (Original Equipment Systems NATS2000Alarm02 | TC2–1236/0102 | RSUIL | 350Z | Oct03–on | S so i take it it is even better than you thought and its cat 1? or am i reading wrong? cheres
  21. and if so what category is it? (it is that time again, insurance) cheers M. PS its a 2005 UK spec GT
  22. thanks for the info, however am spending too much on the car at the moment for optional things... i just thought maybe it was already in there as standard. cheers M.
  23. thanks for the info....... so the adapter is not included wih the gt pack then? thats a shame, i doubt i will spend 85 quid on it. cheers
  24. Hi I have had my GT spec 2005 Zed for 10 months now and have just picked up a new phones. (HTC desire S) - actually it should arrive Thursday So does this hook up to the controls on the steering wheel? if so i guess it must have a blue tooth adapter in the car somewhere. does this mean it has hands free etc and will pick up my voice automatically, and play speach over the bose stereo system? if so how do i set up? thanks
